    I have been surely and steadily moving in the direction of changing my business model to a subscription web service. In fact, my accountant who is very saavy, recommended that I do so last spring. I am thinking of selecting a specific niche and going all in on it. I have my site development process down and I've developed an excellent starter theme. I really do above-average work and feel that I can make this happen.

    You got me on having a course. I have been contemplating about this business model for web development and ironically, I am witnessing it at my current job as a UI/UX Developer.
    The family is in need of recurring revenue and the wife is wanting to be more involved in what I do with UI/UX, Design, and Development work.

      @@swschramm sure enough, I did, and I didn't get notified of this comment when I was trying to remember the code, but I did hear it within the latest podcast episode on your Transister podcast website. Thank you so much. I am really enjoying the content in the course so far. Also, one big UX suggestion for the course: When I click on Marked as Complete, it doesn't load the next topic/module, it just reloads the current topic within a module and autoplay the course video I just saw. Just thought you should know and hopefully TutorLMS has a setting for that ;) God Bless you brother!

    Hi Steve. I'm freelancing, and I do not offer subscription services for web design/development as I'm affraid of dishonest and unreliable clients and complications like legal, stress etc. if things go south. How do you deal with that? Some legal or banking solutions to ensure full payment? Or do you host clients websites to keep them hostage? What if you spend 100 hours to design and launch a website and client disappears after short while, not caring about his website and without paying?

      Hey Michael! These are all valid concerns, and I will probably cover these on the Subscription Web Design podcast soon to give a more thorough answer. To be honest, the quick answer is that in 7 years I have not had a problem with this at all. I do make clients sign a contract, which states they are responsible to pay for the 18 months in full if they want to leave early. My sites work like a lease agreement where a minimum term is required, and legal action can be taken if not followed through.
      Also, while I would not use the term "hostage" (LOL), I do host most (basically all) of these websites, which definitely incentivizes clients to keep paying. All in all, I've had a great experience with this and it has created a stable and consistently growing income for my family over the last 7 years!

    What should I charge for different services? That's ALL I wanted to know.

      Hey there, sorry your question didn't quite get answered in the video. The thing is, it really depends on what services, to whom you're selling, where you're located, etc. It's a big topic. I would gladly do an episode on more specifics around pricing if you have any ideas. Thanks!

      @@swschramm No problem thanks for the response. I'll do my best to narrow it down:
      - I'd imagine most people would start through networking with former clients or friends and family. These would be small to medium sized businesses. If they're too small they won't have the budget. If they're too big their demands might require a bigger team. So somewhere in the middle. Let's say a restaurant or powerwash or realty group or car dealer with a decent revenue and 3-5 employees.
      - Given how many providers are out there the main selling point is probably the "personal touch" meaning they can call or text to ask for revisions, instead of opening tickets or writing formal emails...so ideally they'd be in the same country or time-zone. I'm in California but my clients are usually in other states.
      - Additional features, like say a eCommerce section, or a blog, etc may be requested down the line.
      - Service includes hosting, maintenance, uptime, some graphics and text editing
      I know that's still pretty general but I'm trying to put together a pricing that wouldn't devalue the work of my fellow web designers

    Hi Steve, how do you get projects?

    • @swschramm
      @swschramm  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim! Thanks for reaching out! My top strategy for finding clients is to provide value in online forums/groups dedicated to the niche(s) you want to work in. Literally answering questions and being helpful there for free, which in some cases, will end up in long-term paid relations. A good number of my current clientele came from that path. I do cover this topic in depth in my course if you'd like additional info. Use code "podcast" for 20% off. :)
      Appreciate you watching!!
