- Sam Worthington interview on ROVE (live with Rove McManus) - FINAL ROVE SHOW.
Sam Worthington was handpicked for AVATAR by James Cameron and made his mark internationally starring opposite Christian Bale earlier this year in "Terminator Salvation".
Sam grew up in WA, moved to Queensland and found his way down to Sydney. After doing a series of jobs including brick laying, he graduated from NIDA and acted in theatre productions.
In 2000, Worthington made his feature film debut with a starring role in the Australian film "Bootmen," in the role of Adam Garcia's brooding older brother. His performance garnered him an Australian Film Institute (AFI) Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role. His subsequent Australian film credits include "Dirty Deeds," with John Goodman, Toni Collette and Sam Neill, for which he earned a Film Critics Circle of Australia (FCCA) Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor; and "Gettin' Square," with David Wenham. He also had a small role in the World War II drama "Hart's War," starring Bruce Willis.
It was his layered performance in Cate Shortland's critically acclaimed and commercially successful 2004 film "Somersault" that brought Worthington international attention. He won an AFI Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role and earned his second FCCA Award nomination. In addition, the film made a clean sweep of the year's AFI Awards, winning in all 13 film categories - a first in the awards' history.
Worthington went on to star in the title role of Geoffrey Wright's 2006 contemporary adaptation of Shakespeare's "Macbeth." He has also been seen in John Dahl's "The Great Raid" and the horror thriller "Rogue."
Worthington's Australian television credits include starring roles in two award-winning projects: "Love My Way," which has won three AFI Awards for Best Television Drama Series; and "The Surgeon", which was nominated for an AFI Award for Best Telefeature or Miniseries. He also starred in the "Delivery Man" episode of "Two Twisted," a "Twilight Zone"-like anthology series produced by Bryan Brown.
Upcoming films that Sam has starring roles in are; the big budget action-adventure fantasy epic "Clash of the Titans," playing the lead role of Perseus under the direction of Louis Leterrier as well as two very different independent features: the romantic drama "Last Night," opposite Keira Knightley and Eva Mendes; and the post-World War II dramatic thriller "The Debt," directed by John Madden and also starring Helen Mirren. (These films have all been filmed and will be released next year).

He's a fantastic actor! The first time I ever watched him is in Avatar, and I was so surprised when he spoke with an Australian accent in interviews! I thought he was very convincing as an American.
You clearly never played Call of Duty: Black Ops 1, 2, and 4. He voiced the OG Alex Mason before he got recast for BO:CW and he was great as Mason. I loved his portrayal in 1 & 2 but I never got to play BO4 because no campaign mode but he still did a great job with that. I’d be glad to see him and tell him that I not only loved him in Avatar but I enjoyed playing as Mason in CoD.

His parents are British and he was born in Britain. When he was 6 months old his parents took him to Australia and that's where Sam Worthington grew up. To me Sam is Australian even though he was born in Britain.

there is a difference between ethnicity & nationality, people can be of one race, but still hold nationality of other. Whatever citizenship you hold, that's your nationality.
I am a Chinese by race/ethnicity, but I have Australian citizenship, therefore, I am a Australian by nationality, regardless of where I was born. Sam Worthington is British by ethnicity, but like me, he is Australian by nationality.

Well I'm Aussie and i saw Terminator 4 and Avatar and i had no idea he was Australian until someone told me - after i saw the movies.
I was sooo happy to know he's in a great movie like avatar!! I watched one of his previous movie called 'gettin square' and it was so hard for me to understang the australian accent. like in this interview, i didnt catch 100% of what he said but i like listening to it;)

I just watched the movie... omfg best movie ever !
i said it before and I'll say it again. He is such a NICE and DECENT guy. The fact that he's come from a car with NOTHING and ended up with a 2.8 Billion dollar film is unbelievable. He really should get the Rising actor award I swear. Totally deserves it. Amazing story. He'd be good for a Bond Villain :D Dunno about Bond. He does have a Daniel Presence but I don't think he could do Bond.

The "silver lady" is Aussie slang for the silver bag which contains the wine inside the cask. When it's empty you take it out blow it back up and use it as a pillow......lol.
