- I thought House on the hill was going to be an innocent game where we rob houses and try to loot at much as possible..turns out we picked the wrong house to rob since it's not haunted by 1, but THREE evil entities....I played all the way til the end for you all too, hopefully you enjoyed!

Story line in the chronological order:
Protagonist has his whole life planned ahead of him by his dad but it turns out that he doesn't want to go to business school because he wants to be a writer, and despide his parents disaproval he becomes one.
He meets a woman, get's married and has a child. That child then develops some sort of a condition that is cureable, but his wife and him don't have the money. He tries to finish his book to get some money, but he either doesn't finish it or it doesn't do so well. So he, in his desperation turns to robbing houses. During one of his robberies he accidentally sets the house on fire trying to turn off the alarm system. Three people who were in the house during that time all die, the wife, the husband and the child.
Now I'm not sure if he was charged for murder or not, but regardless he feels guilty of this.
He starts to imagine different ways the robbery could have gone, and different reasons to justify him killing these three people. The husband was abusive. The wife starved her child. The child killed them both.
The stories he wrote get mixed up with it. Which is why the husband is an axe murderer, the wife is a ghost and the child is a monster.
He also comes up with this narrator guy, to justify why he cut the wrong wires. He doesn't actually exist.
He accepts that he killed these three innocent people, realizes that it doesn't change anything and dies in one way or another.
And the reason the narrator said "you've already killed them" when you hadn't killed the husband/the axe killer in game is because the protagonist killed him in the fire he started.
Damn that's deep.
I think the robber was apart of his story
no dude the ending explains it ... the whole thing was the fact he re-wrote the book many times to make it perfect but it will never be perfect the 3 are his mother and his father him self (he killed his parents mentally in his mind they dont exist cus of the abuse he used it for his book ) this is a story about a writter trying to save his child from the heart illness she was born with
he either tries to finish the book and his child dies and book gets rejected or he opens the door to nadine and go to his father for money
he never robbed houses because of that etc that was his character havent u payed attention when he says the : the part with the maniac monster is done ...
it wasnt that complicated all the re-wind is about the fact that a writter re-writtes story elements until perfection just that he has no time for that (that why his books were rejected too)
@@notoriousbig3k I agree with you. At the very beginning, the narrator introduced himself as Frankie. The old photo can be seen in first three stories describing the child in the photo looks like the protagonist. Perhaps, he is writing his childhood into dark tones. Rewind might represent the rewriting of the story. If he (Aiden Mist) insists to write the story into ending, his wife (Nadine) leaves him. If he says 'hello' to his wife, then he accepts his father's help and gives up his dream.
This makes sense but at the same time it doesn't.
My theory:
[The first half, disregarding the final scene]:
The protagonist accidentally set the house on fire while attempting to rob the home and once he found out of the lives he took, he couldn’t handle the magnitude of being the person who killed three people, so he did the easier mental option of shifting the blame on a “partner” (the narrator, except there is no partner and they’re simply his conscious) and trying to justify their deaths and how they deserved to die (the father murdered the wife, the wife starved the son to death, the son killed them both). They also tried to justify it by stating it was for his family. The protagonist is trapped in their guilty conscience and is constantly reliving the day and trying the cowards option to levy the weight of his crimes.
Except that would be my theory without the second half, the last mission. The missions before hand are all the story the protagonist has written, and it’s from his POV in a metaphoric sense because he feels like he’s responsible for his family’s collapse. It’s not that the protagonist (outside of the book, in real life) feels guilty over the family’s deaths but how he feels that his actions which brought him happiness/freedom ended up bringing them to debt as their son’s condition worsened. In otherwords, this story is about an author projecting himself onto the protagonist in his book; and his feelings within his unfortunate circumstance are imparted on the feelings of the one in his book.
Because of that, he felt this book would be groundbreaking because the emotions felt real as they are his own and he felt bigger connection to this book than all the rest.
On the second to last mission, he said acceptance that it was his fault was not enough; he needed to reconnect with those he dissociated with (Nadine.)
This is just a rough theory from what we see though, and I have no doubt there are better ones.

Here is the meaning behind game:
**read this after you have watched the gameplay**
*spoiler alert*
The main character wasn't actually a killer; He was a writer who wanted to break free from his father and weight of being an heir to his company. the story he was witting was what you were playing in the beginning. you played the game three different times as if you were rewriting a story over and over again to make it better. this is why the story got more ridiculous each time you played it and the reason why the mc and the headphone guy turned out to be the same person; he was talking to himself (like most writers do). you kept playing/rewriting the story because the writer/mc wanted to make something that was going to sell in order to get the most funds to save his son.

I read it before I watched it : ) Anyway, I noticed that it also changes the villain or the scary person each time it restarts just like a new idea of how to make it better. I also noticed that it gets more unrealistic and scary than the one before as if he is progressing and growing! It was very neat to watch it knowing what it represents so I think we should read your comment before watching it for a better experience in my opinion : ).
It was a great twist that I didn’t see coming at the start. It kept me guessing about what’s happening and when I saw the ending I was like “we were the author the whole time?”, which was refreshing.

Ok, I think I get this now
This whole story is basically the same person. We are seeing this through the person's eyes, he wanted to escape the life his dad planned out for him, he became a famous author, got married and had a child, a perfect life. However, problems started to pop up, he was losing fame and money, his kid was sick and practically on their death bed, then the wife wasn't around as much as she wanted to stay by their son's side.
This is why we get the jumoscares throughout the game. The maniac wasnt the husband himself, I think it was a representation of his father, as he does mention how his father has "educational methods" to get his son to listen. The ghostly woman being the wife as she only wanted her son to be ok, plus she trusts the husband, yet seeing the endings would explain of why she died the way she did. As for the giant ass monster, it's an example of his son's condition, what his son needs in order to live, a brain, heart, and liver. As for why everything repeats, it's a way to get us involved with his life, to show us what is happening, the house being an example of his entire mindset and the monsters being the people in his life. Then it also shows how the person is in a denial state of mind, then also seeing how he is an author, may explain why it is like this, his fantasies becoming an example of his life problems.
This also explains the endings, as we sees Kubz pick the door ending, opening the door to his wife, this is considered the good ending, as the person accepts the reality, realizing his family needs help, he needs help from his dad, and needs to get back on his feet. I assume if you pick the book, then it's the bad ending, the person continues to live in a denial, forever going in an endless cycle before everything crashes for him, which would explain the fire scene when confronted by voice in your head, it's an example of how this will happen if you dont accept the truth and face reality, instead of living in denial and come up with excuses.
This is what I think, I know, it's a bit late, but meh.

This is what I got from the game:
Aiden, a man that has deep regrets, so he hallucinates. He hallucinate scenarios, where things could be been different, and it was... just not in the way he intended...
They way he saw things where bad, very bad, he imagined him self stealing instead of working for money, and at the end of all those bad hallucinations... he saw his memories... memories of his wife, worried about her son with some sort of disease, and kinda disappointed in her husband, but have him a chance.
In the end, he chose family. So he went to his father for help. Even though he didn't want to he did for his family.
But it also could have went an other way, since it's a game you have choices. He could've finished the book, leaving his family behind, only to fail, and regret his choices.

So the whole game was basically part of his book.
He was writing different book ideas and most of them were scrapped.... the loops were each new book idea that was scrapped... So everything was fake except for the end part.
so like this entire thing was just fiction and Jay got the good ending
I think he couldn't come up with enough money. So he robbed a house. Hr failed at safely robbing the house and set that family on fire. He wrote from his grievances. His depression and almost schizophrenia like imaginings. Trying to justify the mistakes he made. He wrote it in his book and at the end whatever path you chose. He succeeded. Guilty with regret, anyway he saved his son with that money.

This is the most creative horror game i've seen! More games should probably be more like this instead of just using jumpscares for the only way to scare the player.

It clearly took some inspiration from other games of course as it should, the camera part was a complete reference to the start of cry of fear, so I was ready for the jumpscare when the drawing was far back, in cry of fear they are x's though, but it was repeating exactly what happened in the start of it so I assumed there would be a jumpscare there

Here is my theory:
We are actually playing as the narrator. And the narrator in the game is our own thoughts. The narrator’s son has a disease and he has problems with his wife. He is an author but he can’t earn money and because of that the doctors can’t cure his son. His wife tells him to talk to his dad but he doesn’t want that because his dad used violence against him and he is afraid of his dad. [We can see the violence in the mannequin part( the camera flashes and there was a mannequin hitting the other one] And with all these problems he went insane and tried to rob his own house for money. That’s why he exactly knows what to do and the furniture places.
First attempt:
While he was trying to rob his house he accidentally cut the wrong wire an that caused a fire. His son and wife died in that fire. He went to prison and got even crazier than before.
Then comes the fourth attempt : This is when he got out from prison and came to his house. He couldn’t stand what he did and that’s why he talked to himself (It wasn’t my fault was it? Etc.)
Then comes the third attempt: He actually was exploring his house trying to find something to steal ( because he thought his wife and son were alive for a second) but because he went insane he saw a hallucination that his house was actually a cave. He also “saw” the monsters but they were a hallucination too.
Then the second attempt: He can’t stand the hallucinations and the fact that he killed his family so he decides that suicide is the best option. He goes to the balcony and his mind says “You can’t jump, can you?” etc. We don’t see it but he actually jumps and dies.
After he dies he sees the conversations he did with his wife. He also imagines what would’ve happened if he worked at his dad’s factory. He couldn’t work there even in his imagination. While this is happening, he hears his wife’s voice. He thinks that his wife didn’t actually die because he doesn’t realize that he died either and goes to her voice. That is when we understand that he died. That is how the game ends.

I believe in the end if he had chosen the book over the door that would simbilze the guy stealing stuff for his family when it was really for him so when the gost lady said “so you understand what you did was wrong and that you can’t blame anyone but yourself” that door or book choice was the finale test and If he hadn’t chosen the door and except chosen the book then the game would restart until he got over it and learned his lesson. Theory here
The narrator is Aidan, and you play as the protagonist in the story. He's writing the final chapter of a dark story, where the protagonist is dealing with a guilty conscience after killing 3 people and setting a fire to cover it up. The protagonist was likely someone with a family of their own, resorting to theft because they thought themselves too good for a typical 9-5 job. That fateful night was when they were caught in the act, and in desperation, killed the inhabitants of the house and set the fire. Not sure if they were caught or not, but the protagonist attempted multiple times to justify their own behavior, to reframe things so as to not be in the wrong. But deep down, they knew they were wrong, hence Aidan writing the self-berating thoughts. The constant rewinds was of Aidan editing/rewriting the final chapter, the monster serving a different purpose in each version, including the last edit that included all 3. In the end, after Aiden writes the ending chapter with all 3 monsters from previous edits, the author's story comes out.
Aidan was raised by a controlling father who expected him to take over a family business. As such with controlling parents, it only alienated Aidan and he had little self confidence under the immense pressure. He turned to writing dark stories as a way to escape, and he eventually decided to pursue writing, infuriating his father. Aidan's life was good for a while thanks to his writing, got a nice house and raised a family, until his son got sick. Medical bills began piling up, his books began to get rejected, and money ran out. This is where the endings deviate, and it's possible to get 2 endings. Not sure how to get each and Jay got the good ending
I really like this theory, it makes perfect sense with the whole storyline and game. Plus it fits well with the whole “directing where the person goes” type thing and makes the scenes and ending make sense, good job!
