I have a Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer from 1993 and it still runs.

Western Massachusetts Elevators keep it and fix it always

I'm sure that this thing is still working today. The entire washer was made in the USA including the drive motor! These things are built like tanks and are built to last a very long time. Whirlpool's new top loaders are a piece of crap. They are only assembled in the USA from a cheap Chinese drive motor. They have no tub brake. They also don't have a tub suspension. If it stops working, have someone fix it. This is a washer that is meant to be fixed. The new ones are disposable, scrap, throw-away ones.

these things would beat your clothes to a pulp. This is a Whirlpool washer with a Kenmore agitator. They make the Kenmore machines so the parts were interchangeable back then

BroccoliQueefed Your clothes would be "beaten to a pulp" if the machine was excessively overloaded. Because they have powerful induction motors, if you messed up, this thing could make you pay the price in the form of torn clothing. Actions have consequences, remember this for the next time you say that these will shred clothing. If used correctly, this WON'T tear fabric immediately. Also stop mixing concrete with your machine, because no wonder it tears clothes, the agitator must have sharp edges from that.

This could be a Whirlpool model that was exclusively sold at Sears. Some of them had the Sears Dual Action agitatiors.

You installed a Kenmore agitator on this one? The original one is just much more iconic I always thought

The reason why I mentioned it is b/c I've never seen an agitator with the "Dual Action" logo on it in a Whirlpool machine. I've only found them in the Kenmore machines (they are made by Whirlpool, though, so maybe it's a replacement agitator).

A good way to tell if this machine was a Sears model is to look for an s in the model number. Otherwise it may be a repacement agitator

@vanni9283 : i believe it is a whirlpool, but kenmores and whirlpools, tend to use similar parts in their machines.

@2006arakawafan right on i really want to get my hands on an old belt driven whirlpool, like what my mother had when i was growing up.

You should have left the water level at large for this load. No need to strange the motor or overwork the clothes.

Top loaders clean much better? Have you ever used a front loader? They are far more thorough and gentle on clothes as well.

i have that same washer but has a different agitator and not so many water levels only three and the agitator is different. did you buy this agitator or did it come with it because it seems to be a kenmore agitator.
