Another tip: Adding a split geared focus ring or even a zip tie with the split "knob" pointing to the side you can reach can be a great way to get smoother manual focusing and zooming. Not for using a follow focus device, but for manual control with your finger. I use this trick for zooming in video when I have my camera in a cage. Then I can zoom smoothly with a single finger by pushing on the zip tie knob, instead of having to reach around to actually hold the lens, which would also introduce unwanted movement into my clips.
Hahaha. Fuji is getting greedy nowadays, imitating Sony. You want that feature? Buy that exact camera. They lost their way what makes them magical in the first place. People want that magical character lens + faster AF and maybe WR but what they did is just following others footstep, just the usual clinical lens.
Nice, clear explanation Michael. So many choices these days. Question: As an X-T3 user I wonder about good old Kaizen and what features can technically be put into a new firmware update for that generation of camera. As an amateur/enthusiast shooter I don't have a need to be bleeding edge and get the latest body. But, there are some things that I do think could be considered under the Kaizen philosophy to be "handed down" to the older devices(which really aren't that old!). Thanks for the great explanation. Have a great holiday and Happy New Year.
This was really informative, I'm still getting used to digital after 40 years film. Query will this system still work in manual using old film based lenses, like Olympus on Fujifilm cameras. Currently use XE 1. Maungaturoto New Zealand.
Will we see the update to xt5 that allows focus peaking to turn off while half pressing the shutter, as it was in previous cameras? The lack of this in the x-t5 is driving us crazy.
Does all these manual focus functions still works (as shown) when the camera is recording internally? When the X-H2S is video recording, can it change focus mode by pressing on the button on camera body?
Very nice overview, Michael. It would be great to see the Focus Meter function extended to Stills mode on GFX and FX cameras like how it is currently implemented on Canon RF cameras.
I'm switching from Sony aps-c and so far I'm loving my X-H2. The only thing bothering me is that it seems there's no way to set the Zoom Check to be triggered by the shutter button's half press? When I'm using full manual lenses like the TTartisn, I have to go to the joystick to get the zoom check and then back to the shutter button, which isn't very straight forward when I want to get a shot asap.
@@FujifilmUSACameras You're welcome!! I have been a proud owner of Fujifilm products since 2014. Currently shooting on X-H2s and GFX 50S II with GF50 & GF45-100. I want that GFX 100 II, GF20-30, GF55 and GF110 but not sure how would I get it.
I particularly enjoy the focus distance indicator on my xt4. A lot of times I am not sure whether my focus plane is before|after my point of interest. And the focus distance indicator truly helps. But be mindful that the focus distance indicator work only with lenses with electronic contacts. Even some popular cinema cameras like the bmcc6k does not have one. ( correct me of I’m wrong)
In my experience on an X-T4, the split image and prism focusing settings are worse than useless. Good idea and I'd like to be able to use them, but they don't work and are a gimmick.
Michael, why don't you update us on the 30mm tilt shift lens that was promised months ago. Why doesn't fuji have the professional courtesy to update it's customers who have paid thousands for this lens?
Really? Maybe outdoors. Indoors the bright red is the best. Try using it and varying your aperture to get the most light to get the best contrast. Then stop down and shoot. (On manual lenses)
I love focus peaking but I find Fujifilms focus peaking to be almost unusable. It's so incredibly thin and really hard to see, I wish it was a little more bold (on the XT-5 at least).
Towards the end of this TH-cam video by Michael on an Updates for Understanding Manual Focus. He said that likes to use a split ring of pitch 0.8 and wrapping it around his own 16-55 zoom lens. I live not far away from London and phoned House of Photography today in Covent Garden and asked about this item but they reported that do not sell it or know who does. Can. anyone help please and tell me where I can these rubber rings. I also have a Fuji 90mm f2.8 lens and would like to try this also. Thank you . And a special thank you to Michael for A EXCELLENT VIDEO on manual focus. Cannot wait to try it !!! Thank you
Fuji the only thing we need from you is af realtime tracking. That's all you need to make. don't make any other camera or lens until you figure that one out.
Please make the portrait experience much better using your subject detection feature. It automatically detects eye and when you punch in, it zooms to that area. No more messy moving the AF point. I can't believe you guys didnt think about this

Thanks for explaining how all these great tools function!
Thank you so much ! I've been using XT10, XT2, XS10 and XH2s over six years now and was just missing those valuable information. Well done !
Thank you for your update. I plan on playing and getting to know your suggestions/ recommendations on my xt5
Very useful; all killer and no filler. Thanks!
It would be nice if fujifilm gave all the newer cameras the same new features as the GFX 100 ii has that most of us will not own
this won't happen , unfortunately

So you want a brand new car when your car is second hand?
Thank you, I really needed this video. I'm happy you're going into menu details too.

Thank you for a great video. Well said and informational. I get what I am looking for. And this is my 1st TH-cam comment :)

I would like to have the focus meter for stills as well.

Thanks a lot I really enjoyed the final tip ...

Interesting and useful video. Thank you very much.
Will this complete system work on Fujifilm xs-20
FOCUS METER needs to be available in Photo (manual mode) too. I don't understand why video mode only.
Thank you for the feedback

Great insights, I’ll be using some of them! 🤙🖖
🤝
the "linear mode" is also available on fuji X-h2s?
Thank you, great video

when was released the update ?

Thank you for being patient, we’re shipping them out as fast as we can! Please check with your dealer for more information.
Checking with dealer doesn't work. They (bh photo) says our buyers haven't heard anything from fuji.
Nobody in America has them. This lens was supposed yo be here in october
Very useful
Why the fck is focus meter only in movie mode? This is the only usable mode at all.
Thank YOU.
I find the focus peaking colors to be way more dim than other manufacturers - not as easy to use

Don’t forget us XPro1 folks. Teach us how to focus. We don’t have the latest cameras.
