I was shocked to hear that. I didn't know much details about British Rules in India. We just been told in school, that it was an occupation and that there was many uprisings against Brits. But I wasn't conscious of this a lot of awful, terrible things that "Great" Britain did to country of India... As Polish I can relate to this massacre, because history of my country know many of them... Like Katyń, where 10 thousands polish soldiers where murdered by Soviets, the same as in Jallianwala Bagh, with cold blood... British government should apologise in public, not only for that crime, but also for all 200 hundred years of oppression and give India back of what they stole. And who cares, like Cameron said, that if they will, there won't be anything left in British Museums. Though!
INDIA being the second largest economy back then, British took 45 Trillion Dollar from india during that 200year oppression, n UK current GDP is. around 2.6 Trillion $, so clearly it cannot give back in monetary term.
I also want to tell something which British has covered up. There was a genocide in Bengal which killed 4.2 million Indians. They also operated a prison called Kalapani or cellular Jail, which was much worse than Nazi concentration camp. British also looted 45 trillion dollar and killed over 30 million people through out 200 years of rule.

The majority of ppl killed were sikh. The majority of the populatio by a huge spread is sikh. Guven this little mention is made if them...the irony. This incident was the spark for Bgagat Singh also. Udam Singh exacted revenge many decades later killing the general in london
Completely agree, learning about Indian colonial history, all of this division is artificial and brought on by the British. The creation of separate Hindu Muslim legal frameworks, among other things created these divisions. It’s just so sad seeing how these artificial barriers put in place are still there hurting South Asians and the British have been able to get away from this with little responsibility. They should be forced to pay reparations for this, the peace and prosperity that Britain enjoys is from the stolen wealth and labour of South Asia and the rest of Britain’s global colonial empire. That wealth is stolen, and must be returned with interest.
@@gabrielgarcia7554 That's not true, there has been conflict with the Hindu's and Muslims for many centuries. India has been independent for nearly 80 years, not far from half the time of the entire Raj period, yet there is more conflict now than ever. Could it be that Modi who has been held partly responsible for the massacres of Muslims and is now Prime Minister is a divisive figure with his Hindu nationalism?
Don't say, "The shooting last only around 11min." Are you expecting time was longer than 11min? Do you even know how many round of bullet are fired in 1min? Did you even feel a pain how many people lost life in that 11min incident rather you say it's only 11.min? Who is that boy voice anchor?( At 9.15) Disgusting phrase!
I forgot many lessons taught in my school but this one I distinctly remember now even after 20 years. It was social science class at the last hour of the day and even though it was 2 paragraphs in my book, my teacher explained all the details of this incident. There was pin drop silence and after class got over, we all felt something heavy. The usual joy of leaving for home after school wasn't there. We all walked out of school in silence only passing comments on how terrible the incident was.
Rita. video made today does not tell the real truth what exactly happened 100 years back. 99% is fake. Why? The producers do not tell why was the gathering or demonstration for? Who instigates the Punjabis to gather at the Bagh? And for what? The Video should not be onesided. Who is the leader? There was British rule. Had the people permission to gather at the Bagh? Why the crowd carrying rocks and stones? Nobody shoots for nothing. Something, someone instigated to start the shooting.

What would I say to Brits, when Indian education system failed to give full series of incidents. In India books, Sardar Udham Singh killed General Dyer.

As a Englishman there are parts of my history I’m massively proud of. But there are also parts that I’m massively ashamed of. The fact British soldiers opened fire on unarmed Indians including women and children is a dark part of British colonial rule. This massacre was one part of British colonial history that is shameful and should never be forgotten and should never of happened. RIP all those that died at the round of a British made 303 Enfield rifle that day. Not too mention the mess and damage those riles do. Believe me I’ve shot a 303 Enfield and they are a extremely powerful rifle, even by todays Standards.
U can also be ashamed for Winston Churchills Bengal famine where almost 3.5million died due to starvation out of 60million population of Bengalis And when Churchill was informed he wrote why hasn't Gandhi died yet That's how great Winston Churchill Was I can give u one more Madras famine if u want If u start feeling ashamed the list goes on The PPL who had to feel it nd ask at least an apology never did British looted some 40 50 trillion $ from here which we know even if British is sold can never be given back
It's great to keep the memory alive of the atrocities that scarred India and its people. It is the memories that uphold the truth about history, people, religion, and events. We could never let the British claim 300 people lost their lives when we know 1500 had their light extinguished. Perhaps someday, the British will evolve and become civilized.
Okay, I think I need to set a few things straight here. There WAS violence against the British during the freedom struggle. The freedom fighter's of India were divided into 2 categories - the moderates (who resisted the Brits by peaceful means) and the extremists, who assassinated British officers and did the bombing, etc. Both these types of freedom fighters had been resisting the Brits since the 1890s and while they made some progress, India wasn't even close to freedom. It was when Gandhi arrived here in 1916 that major progress was made. Gandhi was a blend of moderate and extremist. If you study about all the movements he set in motion to free India, I think you would find it highly difficult to believe he was 'duping' us.

Good short documentary, clear and to the point. Well-produced. Perhaps there should have been a reference to how the massacre tormented Dyer even to the moment of his death in 1927. The story of Udham Singh has made for separate accounts, but thanks to him, Michael O’Dwyer received his reward in London in 1940. Justice!
how did the massacre torment him? Also, are you of Indian origin? If not, what interested you to have learnt so much about this incident? I'm curious, USA raised indian 19 year old.
@@rohangangar6210 Dear Rohan, I am US-born and raised, of Indian origin (Kerala, actually). The Amritsar Massacre has interested me since my schooldays reading about Mahatma Gandhi. (YEARS ago, around your age.) One fascinating aspect of this wretched affair is the level of support Dyer enjoyed, in government and among the British public. He was hailed in the House of Lords. A leading newspaper led the effort to raise £27,000 on his behalf. He was buried with full military honours. He did his best to justify his actions. But the massacre did torment Dyer: his Army career crashed to a halt; he retired to Britain as a Colonel (not Brigadier-General); and his already shaky health deteriorated further. He was plagued by nightmares. On his deathbed - in his last moments - he told his family: “I just want to die and know from my Maker whether I did right or wrong.” I’m not sympathetic toward Dyer. In fact, I’m glad he paid a price for what he, and his fellow countrymen, thought would save the British Raj. We know it had the opposite effect! As I mentioned, Michael O’Dwyer, Dyer’s number one fan, paid a higher price - however belatedly. Keep up your interest, too, young man, whatever your professional goals! History can be more dramatic than fiction, at times. Look forward to hearing more about you and your views.
@@thomaschacko6320 wow that's insightful, I knew about the $27,000 but I thought that was for O'Dwyer. I'm going to read more into his career decline, considering the rapport he got! @@rohangangar6210 Dear Rohan, thank you for your reply. And for forwarding the link. But, as people who enjoy history, we have to double-check what we come across. This article, for example, begins with one glaring inaccuracy: Sir Michael O’Dwyer was not a general; rather, he was Lieutenant-Governor of Punjab. He led the mass paranoia that India was on the verge of another 1857 Mutiny, and blamed Gandhi for being the main source of trouble. When Brigadier-General Reginald Dyer carried out the massacre at Jallianwalla Bagh, O’Dwyer gave his full approval. In O’Dwyer’s view, those rebellious Indians had to be taught a lesson! He continued his passionate support of Dyer throughout the rest of his life. The article also contains errors about Udham Singh. It is simply wrong to say that he had been forgotten. A statue of him was erected at Jallianwalla Bagh, and some of his ashes kept at the memorial site. A street was renamed in his honour; same for hIs home village. When his remains were returned to India in 1974, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi led the welcoming ceremony. Documentaries and Bollywood films have been made about him. Also, that photograph does not show Udham Singh being led to the gallows. It was taken as he was led out of Caxton Hall, right after he had killed O’Dwyer and wounded three other men. (I doubt he was wearing a tailoured suit at his execution!) And to dismiss Udham Singh as just “crazy” misses the point; the fact that he had planned this for years indicates otherwise. Supposedly he was wounded, as a teenager, at Jallianwalla Bagh. That he wore that suit - no turban or beard - and carried a gun in a hollowed-out book is the mark of someone with a purpose. It is a shame that the current BJP government has “enhanced” the memorial at Amritsar with light shows and other tacky elements, that historians have said give Jallianwalla Bagh a touristy, Disney-like ambience! Nice going, Mr Modi!
In 1857, the British used only 66000 soldiers and they took over the whole of India with ease ... how come ? ... how could it be ... answer is, these British soldiers were back by hundreds of thousands of Indian recruits. Even till now, ten of millions of India still bend their knee to the British people.
Because the subcontinent is still a mess full of communalism, caste and hatred for one another. Its overcrowded, dirty streets and lack of peace of mind.
Just finished reading "The Patient Assassin" author Anita Anand. The story of Udham Singh is amazing. As for O'Dwyer I can only apologise to think that a so called rishman would be behind this massacre. In 1919 Ireland's war of independence had started against the British empire in 1919 and people like O'Dwyer would have been treated with the utter contempt they deserved.

This a brutal massacre that deeply affects me. Had learnt about it in history class, in school but never understood the gravity of it back then. Imagine a religious gathering being converted to a terrifying blood-bath, that too on Baisakhi Day. Expoiting a gathering that was attended by men, women, elders, children alike.. Later, every measure was taken, to ensure that the victims, got no proper medical treatment. Electricity was put off, water connections were cut and curfew was kept on, till the next day. Next day, the curfew was lifted, just so that people, could burn and bury the 1000s dead. How unfortunate ! We keep condemning Muslim invaders. British rulers and the British Imperialism, were not less brutal. Salute our brave leaders - Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, Sukhdev, Rajguru and many many more, who fought for India's freedom - 2.6 million Indians died for us. Sashi Tharoor, an Indian politician and historian, has been criticized for his hypocrisy in condemning the Indian soldiers and General Reginald Dyer who were responsible for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919, where a number of unarmed Indian civilians were killed, while not condemning the Indian rebel soldiers who were responsible for the Satti Chaura Ghat massacre in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, in 1857, where Indian civilians and British men, women and children were killed. The Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar in 1919 was a tragic event in which Indian soldiers in the British Indian army, under the command of General Reginald Dyer, killed a number of unarmed Indian civilians. The crowd had gathered in violation of martial law and had been involved in rioting and attacking the Indian army soldiers prior to the shooting. The number of deaths and the aftermath of the shooting is a matter of historical debate. Sashi Tharoor, an Indian politician and historian, has been criticized for making false claims about the event. Another tragic event that occurred during this time was the Satti Chaura Ghat massacre in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. This event, which took place in 1857, saw Indian soldiers killing Indian civilians who were seen as loyal to the British, as well as British men, women, and children. The Indian soldiers killed the hostages, including women and children, after the British refused to accept the mutineers' demands. This incident is considered one of the most brutal of the rebellion and had a significant impact on British public opinion at the time. It is important to note that the rebellion was not a unified movement, and there were instances of Indian soldiers and civilians fighting against the rebellion and supporting the British. The rebellion was ultimately suppressed by the British army, but it had a profound impact on the country, leading to significant changes in British policies and administration in India. However, it is worth noting that Tharoor has been criticized for not condemning the Satti Chaura Ghat massacre despite his condemnation of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
This reminds of the Patriot Act and what could actually happen on US soil. This isn’t outside the realm of possibilities, at all. Such a sad tragedy and evil men like these are currently making all the decisions around the world. GOD help us.
It's funny how the video completely leaves out that Amritsar was a Sikh city and how over 60% of those who died in Jallianwallah Bagh were Sikh, with the protesters having nothing to do with Hindu Muslim unity, and the celebration of Vaisakhi being a Sikh one. The video also completely leaves out Udham Singh and Bhagat Singh aswell as the Akali Dal movement, strategically ignoring how 77% of the independence movement in India was led by Sikhs despite making less than 1% of the population of British India, effectively meaning Bangladesh Pakistan Sri Lanka Burma and of course India would not have been able to acheive independence today without the efforts of the Sikhs. Now, with the labeling of us as Indians and videos like this one Hinduwashing and Muslimwashing history like this, our major contribution to the very same people making this video are silenced by these people.

Because today such people are not able to spew racial venom openly because the number of people who silence such people is high and these people can only be counted in numbers. Indians had partial self government by 1935 and there was poor management by Indian governance including much greed by Indian businessmen who inflated prices further. Britains survival was at stake during ww2. Churchill was frustrated with the indian elite for many reason including the supporting the mutiny / surrender at Singapore and the quit India movement. Dyer an Irishmen order his gurka and Sikh troops to shoot recklessly. According to the Indian national congress report at the time the figure was approx 250. Sadly both the British figures and the Indian figures at the time were poor and did not reflect the current situation. Udham Singh did not actually kill the general who ordered the shooting.

Then let us remember & prosper.
@@gabrielgarcia7554 That's not true, there has been conflict with the Hindu's and Muslims for many centuries. We all walked out of school in silence only passing comments on how terrible the incident was.

In short Gandhi duped Indians to extend colonisation till 1947. If there were violence the British would have had to leave immediately.

On his deathbed - in his last moments - he told his family: “I just want to die and know from my Maker whether I did right or wrong.”
I’m not sympathetic toward Dyer.
I appreciate this article written about him!
"Seperatist websites of Sikhs glorify him but miss the soul of his beliefs. And as with most things related to Punjab, Rest of India has forgotten him, finding no mention in text-books. There is no memorial in his name and he is forgotten... But on his martyrdom day today, he must be remembered as just a Hindustani, a true Indian. An Indian with the true spirit of a secular India in him, bereft of all religious differences. If we can for just a few seconds discard our religious identity, we would do his memory some justice."

Also, I added you on linkedin, I believe.
1857 was major revolt against any european power in 19th century. we lost because it was unorganised and british had Enfield rifle.

She was rescued by some local Indians,
Draupadi was insulted by the evil son of Dhrtarastra. Ultimately this also sparked a huge battle, famous as the Battle of Kurukshetra. This was 5,000 + years ago. Lord Krsna was about to leave this material world, and since He is the Supreme Controller, He advised Arjuna to fight, and spoke tge glorious Bhagavad-gita As It Is on that Battlefield.

We are not only equal, we are overpowering. Long live the revolution.

The figure of 30 - 50 trillion is calculated using unrealistic figures and poor data. However it is fair to side that Britain created trade relations that were favourable to themself.
The bengal famine happened due to many reason. The Japanese navy carried out naval blockages preventing much grain from reaching the region. Subash Chandra Bose was on the Japanese side. Should we hold him also accountable.
He died in 1927 I believe. He killed the governor of Punjab whose name is very similar and he nearly killed Lord Zetland too who was the once the Viceroy of India.
Many ills happened during empire. The British have much blood on their hands and that cannot be disputed. But all the crimes the British have committed in the india subcontinent, Indians have committed on their own people since the British have left.
This is the most accurate and based account: everything else is just strewn up to stroke emotions and fuel hatred. Buncha moron sheep’s believe everything

The law clearly stated no groups larger than four. They all broke that law and got what they deserved.
Same as great famine of Ireland 🇮🇪??
Loosing your life simply for assembling??that's deserved? Couldn't they simply disperse them?

Partition of India
Deaths: 200,000 to 2 million, 14 million displaced
Date: 15 August 1947
Total number of deaths: 200,000
Perhaps Indians need to get off their pedestals of morality and ask themselves who killed all these people after the British left.
Yeah left the continent divided with conflict ,just like Israel and palestine
I wonder who split India... Oh wait it was britain. That's right. Perhaps britain should get off their scummy little island and actually pick a fight with someone their own size right now... Oh wait britain is just a silly little irrelevant island that's getting sad it's getting left behind... awwww...
Jinnah wanted separate country for Muslims. So Jinnah was main reason behind partition.
😂😑... That's Fact..
who divided it may i ask ?
yep the british'
never teach hindu childern to non violence. non violence is for chuthia
Be like Shubhas Chandra Bose fight when you need. Our education system is just Gandhi family /Congress based.
It's not called non violence it's called defending and doing the right thing
Bose called gandhi as mahatma, father of the nation. Bose knew it was Gandhi who united india, who united brahmins, shudra, muslim together. That's why he even named a battalion as Gandhi. Don't fall into this rss trap of dividing. Listen to bose's grand daughter herself. There were obviously differences but bose knew what Gandhi has done.
That's absurd because , it is only due to violent mindset of Dyer and the mutiny with him that caused this incident. Spread love, peace and respect for everyone and not violence. what you sow shall you reap. Agar hinsa chunoge toh hinsa payoge. Don't stoop. Humans are made to make the world better by living peacefully in it and not make it worse by forcing, constant wars and trying to act like lives don't matter. Violence means death. Choose living and loving. Hope you teach every children to be strong and not violent.
@@smilybajaj What? Violent means death! So what ? Hindus hasn’t been violent for years and got killed, genocided in their own country and Nobody care ? Respect comes from fear ! Idiot
