Thanks, you saved me some coin. I was looking at the Teddy Roosevelt pen. I thought they were USA made. I can't justify paying $175 for a steel nib Chinese pen.
Funny you mention it… the same gentlemens family that relaunched the first encarnation of Esterbrook as well as Conklin also is the very same that relaunched leBoeuf
I'm pretty certain that one is paying for the clip on a Chinese pen. Jinhao, HongDian, Kaigelu have pens with great acrylics, perfectly fine (sometimes superb) nibs, and what I'm guessing is a similar writing experience. And, maybe better customer service, depending, I guess. Thanks for the review. I always appreciate your point of view!
Your pen looks very much like the Aurora Optima in their blue Auroloide color. I have one. Almost looks like this is a copy of that pen with some cheaper variations. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to learn that it is yet another Chinese knockoff under a different name.
Coming from a French family, myself, I am with you...but this was an American company and there are some that pronounce it as lah-beef. Ever see the movie "True Grit"? Classic example.
I stumbled on this pen, too. And really like it. Great review as usual!
The logo on the nib is Hero

Looks like aurora optima
That pen looks a lot like Jinhao 159. I think you're right about it being made in China.
Yeah, I thought they were a bit similar as well, though there are some definite differences.
Could not make it to DC pen show.
We leave in about 10 days. Wish you could be there. I wanted to go to the Miami show but couldn't. Maybe I can make it to Orlando.

It's pronounced "La buff". My French ancestry sensibility is a bit annoyed, pen or company not withstanding.

I completely agree!
Also, American pronunciations of foreign names can be pretty willfully arbitrary, amusing and annoying at once.
