As a Texan Pantera is my Metallica if that makes any sense. Vulgar is my fav for being heavy. Trendkill is lyrically and vocally my favorite album. Far beyond is my fav because of the drums. It's not that it was a bad album, it was an awesome album by metal standards, it's that it had to follow Vulgar and FBD which was impossible and also I do know that the relationships within the band were not once they once were on the earlier albums which contributed to them not even wanting to be around eachother.
@@joshhuatheg3m3ni5 Makes perfectly sense once when Metallica start going downhill Pantera all sudden got better and a lot heavier obviously. No matter what you listen to or love most in music, you have to understand how special this band was and what they stood for, to have everything lined up imperfection in four human beings at the same time to produce the music they did is remarkable and I'm forever indebted to this band and for my brother turning me on to him as such a young age I'm 36 years old now and I miss that metal nothing against these newer bands because I like a few of them but nothing will ever replace Pantera and that's all there is to it Jack.

Would have been great to hear about Rebel Meets Rebel and in particular the scrapped phil vocal tracks too. Very nice interview. I was really hoping "Gasoline" would be mentioned to solve a question I've had for many years. I got to see Darrell & Vinnie jam 'Gasoline a few times with Thurber, from the band 'Pumpjack' and ST playing bass. I've got many photos from that night and knowing the show was videoed by somebody. There is, one video of 'Gasoline' on TH-cam.....but I'm talking about the shows before & after that TH-cam video. They played at 'The Clubhouse' after that video, and 24hrs earlier at 'The Tattoo Bar' in Ft. Worth. I have plenty of photos from that night too. Hopefully I see those videos before I die cause I was only singing 'Bang Your Head' by Quiet Riot, with a legend playing guitar on New Years Eve at The Clubhouse. Yeah, just about anybody would brag about that too, Anyways..... After we lost Darrell. I have a video of 'Vinnie Paul's New Years Eve Bash' with 'Gasoline' but no Dime. That took place at 'Hot Rods & Hoggs' in Arlington, TX 12-31-2005-2006......I have a video on my channel from that night. I was using my digital cam but I do know it was filmed that night also buy somebody else. The handy cam is on one of my photos but dont see the holder. Rex and Bobzilla played "Walk' with Vinnie that night but I need to know who the other guys where, that where playing as 'Gasoline" with Vinnie that night.........can anybody answer that???
Really appreciate you doing this 🙌 trendkills my favorite too love all their albums but that ones special to me!! Miss the music they made my favorite musicians of all time
First of all, Glamtera rules! Nothing to be ashamed about. They were literally children writing better music than almost anything that comes out these days. Especially in the heavy metal community.
Good interview minus all the PATHETIC lets blame Phil for everything. I am so sick and tired of, frankly being embarrassed to be a Pantera fan when i see stuff online. In person people are still cool but online...... geez. *FACTS:* 1. Philip announced from the stage on Panteras final tour that the band would *be taking multiple years off.* this is a matter of well documented fact available in the public space. I literally drove home from the final Pantera show and we all discussed how many years Pantera is taking off. Now 2 decades later people still pretend it came outta nowhere which is laughable. 2. Pantera took a *PLANNED BREAK specifically for all FOUR GUYS to pursue side projects.* Again this is another well documented FACT. I still own the magazine where Vinnie Paul lays out the plan for 2002 and releasing side projects literally from all *FOUR* guys. Period. Well documented FACT. End of story. It's not up for debate. 3. The brothers gave up on Pantera *4 months* into a *planned ONE YEAR BREAK* at minimum. This is from Vinces own F'n words. "That was the day that me & dime decided it was time to for us to quit waiting around & put together a NEW BAND." - VINNIE PAUL. The day was February 3rd 2002 *before* Phil even released DOWN II or *did any press or tours* for anything during Panteras *PLANNED BREAK* that every fan in America was well aware of. 4. DOWN & SUPERJOINT were on hold for a decade. Superjoints debut was in the can in 2000, two years before it was released. Rebel Meets Rebel was *almost* done before RTS was released. So everyone had side bands and music on the shelf. Fact. 5. Rex Brown had a newborn and wanted to spend some time at home after the Down thing and has said he wanted three years off. I can go on forever. Four guys worked together for 15 straight years. The band put out what they considered their best or 2nd best album of their career, followed that with the most successful tour of their career and they needed a break. They *all* had other music sitting on the shelf. FACTS. Yet these imbeciles act like Forcing out an album wouldve been better! Are ya kidding me? Half the band wanted a few months off & half the band wanted a few years off. *THIS ISNT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!!!!!* Did Rob Halford leave Judas Priest to try other music? Did Judas priest talk shit? Did they get back together 14 years later? Did Paul Rodgers leave his bands? Did Bruce Dickinson leave his band? Wake the F up. My god. I mean really it is embarrassing. I know there are still some Pantera fans out there that can think and have common sense. Not everyone got sucked into this melrose place Pantera drama did they? SMH
@Allen_ 85 Yes i saw em all. The last tour they did was incredible and all four guys were on their "A" game. Yes, including Philip. Go watch the shows for yourself. I just explained why they took a break.
I think they needed a break too, and I think they were all responsible for the breakup really, everybody did some things wrong. You have to understand though that Bobby knew the members of the band personally and that he knew Phil since he joined the late 80s so he knows way more about them than you do. From what I was listening too, Bobby was pretty much impartial and didn't blame everything on Phil.
Amen. Its fucking ridiculous that there are fans who still think its Phil's fault for what that lunatic did that night. Not rational or logical at all. Just plain stupid really
my first show at age 14 was Pantera/Sepultura vulgar/chaos tour1994, then 95, backstage in 96 Pantera/WhiteZombie all the guys signed everything gave us pictures , dime & rex guitar/bass pics, shirts & full signed posters, 97 tour, 98 Pantera/Black Sabbath ( my birthday), final tour 2001. 4 DOWN shows & 2 Superjoint Ritual shows all in Portland, OR NOW 42 YEARS OLD still have all tix and gear BEST LIVE BAND PERIOD! STRONGER THAN ALL
Phil was an addict, Dime was an alcoholic and it took both of them to ruin Pantera. Booze has ruined just as many relationships/bands as drugs. The perpetuation of Dimebag being some saint and Phil being thrown under the bus is ridiculous!
Yup...Fuck anyone who faults Phil for wanting to rock with other hard metal projects or for his private life...Pantera would've worked all this out and it's nobody's business except the cats involved 🤘
The media is to blame. Pantera wasn't under any record label, corporate or media control .. all it took was a couple rumors and a magazine article to create doubt and destroy trust
Dime entered the talent show at Gunn Jr High. I was a 7th grader and Dime was a 9th grader. Dime dressed as Ace Frehley and ripped on the guitar and took 2nd place. A Chick playing the piano took 1st. DIME WAS ROBBED!
I saw them in 96 in Worcester Mass. Deftones, White Zombie and Pantera. I wonder why Eyehategod wasnt at the show? It was cool to see Deftones, they were the best I was ever going to see them. Saw them later and it was ok, went to see them again in 06 and it was fucking terrible.
Ive been to quite a few concerts in my life. I'm sure several people have experienced a PanterA concert before and been to other types of concerts. Yes PanterA had supporting bands on the tour, and at the concerts but honestly I don't believe they needed them to sell out the arenas that they played in. I never experienced that special feeling of power and connection to PanterA at their concerts, with any other bands, and those concerts. After seeing PanterA live, they left you with the feeling of, "what band could follow"!!!!???
1:54:39 I'm a fan, and have never met any of these guys, so clearly I'm not in any inner circle, so I'll have to speak from that perspective, but it still seems extremely unfair to blame any of this on Phil Anselmo. I realize that he's (Phil) probably the reason that the band wasn't together at that particular time, at least he's part of the reason. But to blame him, to any serious extent, for some evil, delusional lunatic assassinating Dime just seems wrong.
You can’t blame someone’s death on a singer quitting a band, it’s just not right. I love all the pantera and crew but that will never sit well with me.

I met them there, as well. Dime and Rita invited me to the afterparty at Vince's in Arlington. I went. I had no choice, as it was Dimebag Darrell. I ended up losing my job after the 3rd time I partied with them lol. I was 22 and didn't give a shit about that job anyways. I even took my younger brother to a party at Vince's right before he left for Army basic training at the end of '03. They were hesitant to let him in bc he was obviously a 19 year old kid, but they started filling him with whiskey and beer when we explained he was off to basic training in a week. The brothers helped some brothers. It was bitchin.

@838.nItr@m.838 how do you think his addiction to opiates started??? Of course he went to the doctor and they juiced him up with pain killers because he wasn't willing to do a sketchy back surgery that would put him out for at least 18 months
I'm 43 now, but had that exact surgery at age 23. it didn't work, so not only did the spinal fusion not help the pain, I was on the shelf for 16ish months. not excusing Phil's addiction, but it's tough. I'm still on pain meds to this day cuz of it. it really makes u not wanna face the day and I didn't have to do the things Phil had to to continue to perform.

Awesome man thanks for the upload o love to hear everything possible from Pantera and the crew
I ran into Tongs at a festival about 10 years ago. He was walking around taking footage for Slipknot. He thought it was hilarious that I recognized him. I grew up with Pantera and saw them many times. We all watched the home videos. They are great . Anyway, he ended up giving me passes to get to the back area. Great day. He was awesome. We talked about Dime for a little bit and he couldn't have been nicer. Hope he's doing well. Pantera were the greatest. I wonder if he'll go see the tribute shows?
I saw them 3 times during Cowboys from Hell Tour. On the third show they introduced stuff for their new up and coming album. I also met Dime atone of the in store gigs he was doing. Cool funny ass talented dude. Miss them.
any stories that stick out id love to hear any/all u got he is my idol and i wanna hear everything i can since i wont have the chance to meet him
Landry from IL here. Pantera fan too.... Keep up the good work Landry.
This is great. Found out from Reddit . Thanks alot
Only 10 comments? This is metal gold y’all!
Would have been great to hear about Rebel Meets Rebel and in particular the scrapped phil vocal tracks too. When they were recording it there were several interviews talking about Phil tracking vocals, one of the tracks being a duet with DAC and him, them when it came out later on Phil's vocals are nowhere to be seen.... would be great to hear that stuff released one day
Lee Roden as I understand, there is ALOT of unreleased Phil material. Would love to hear it
You'll have to buy his book
He said durring the interview he didnt want to release too much info becuz he's putting out a book
Phil never did vocals for RMR.
@@leeroden7900
I read that article the day it was published. In fact i wish more people would read it as it debunks some common Pantera myths.
Ill say it again, *PHILIP NEVER PERFORMED VOCALS FOR REBEL MEETS REBEL.*
@@leeroden7900 the track WILL be a track with phil. This was in 2001...and also an MTV article. Phil and those guys were done talking around this time.
Really enjoyed this. Thank you.
Great Interview
I`ve meet Bobby in Monterrey Mexico, June 17 1997
Along with Pantera, Anthrax and the CREW from HELL (from the videos)
Really cool videos, really nice people, but Bobby and Big Val (RIP) were the best
Bobby see us in the Hotel in Monterrey, Day before, Morning and after the show, and the best story, he saw us been hardcore fans, he handle me a Promo Picture of Pantera all signed by the 4 members (and he told me NOT to mention to anyone at the moment), also i saw him and Big Val on the Ozzfest 2004?! maybe, were working for Ozzy and were really nice to talk to me for a few minutes, Cheers
Excellent interview
Great interview! Thanks!
Thanks for this one dude.
Pumpjack kicks ass that's awesome
Trendkill and far beyond are considered the best reinventing is truly the criminally underrated album
I probably watched the vulgar vids so so so many times between ages 16 to present. Those vids made me fall in love with Pantera.
Huge fan of the pantera videos and dimevision 1-2. Thanks for this 🙏🤘🏼
In 1995, on march 15 in Indy after the show I got to meet these guys. Totally fn killer🤘
Got to meet Bobby Tongs with Slipknot he took my photo with the band I will cherish that photo forever!!
Really appreciate you doing this 🙌 trendkills my favorite too love all their albums but that ones special to me!! Miss the music they made my favorite musicians of all time
Thank you Bobs!
Good interview
Awesome interview!
First of all, Glamtera rules! Nothing to be ashamed about. They were literally children writing better music than almost anything that comes out these days. Especially in the heavy metal community.
I am the night. Criminally underrated.
thank you so much this is a fans dream come true
Best metal band no doubt happy sixteenth 2020...love Bobby stay up brother
Great interview man. I'm pretty sure I know what the "Canada" story at the end was haha.
Ben Ketchum what’s the Canada story?
Fill us in Dude!!!!
Good interview minus all the PATHETIC lets blame Phil for everything. I am so sick and tired of, frankly being embarrassed to be a Pantera fan when i see stuff online. In person people are still cool but online...... geez.
*FACTS:*
SMH
@@PeeWeeHermitGames
Thanks man. Im glad u have proven their are some intelligent fans still out there. Cheers
@Allen_ 85
Yes i saw em all. The last tour they did was incredible and all four guys were on their "A" game. Yes, including Philip. Go watch the shows for yourself.
I just explained why they took a break.
@Allen_ 85
I explained the break
Yes. Agreed. It really is ridiculous
Man i would love to see a conversation between Phil and James talking old memories about Dime, Vinnie and Cliff.
Rex. Not Cliff. Cliff is Metallica bro. Lol.
@@DetroitFettyghost total misunderstanding as i meant they should have a conversation about their lost brothers
@@imperator4973 lol oops. I getcha now. My bad.
Dime entered the talent show at Gunn Jr High. I was a 7th grader and Dime was a 9th grader. Dime dressed as Ace Frehley and ripped on the guitar and took 2nd place. A Chick playing the piano took 1st. DIME WAS ROBBED!
I’m still trying to figure out why i haven’t seen this interview until today.

White Zombie,, Deftones, and EYEHATEGOD were on the bill in '96 when I saw them in Iowa.
Awesome chat
1:06:20....hey, my truck still has a CD player...and Vulgar Display is still kept in my sun visor CD holder.
Forever stronger than all!
1:54:39
I'm a fan, and have never met any of these guys, so clearly I'm not in any inner circle, so I'll have to speak from that perspective, but it still seems extremely unfair to blame any of this on Phil Anselmo. I realize that he's (Phil) probably the reason that the band wasn't together at that particular time, at least he's part of the reason. But to blame him, to any serious extent, for some evil, delusional lunatic assassinating Dime just seems wrong.
Bobby’s dog choking in the background 😂❤
You can’t blame someone’s death on a singer quitting a band, it’s just not right. I love all the pantera and crew but that will never sit well with me.
Your brain works. That is rare these days.
The interviewer was really biased against Phil.
Agreed
Good comment how many times does Phil have to apologize he has moved on. Cooking hostile is hilarious
Great interview
So where is the new 4th home video? Or the book he was talking about!? I'd love to see both! Been waiting years now.
Keen for the book!
CFH4L Getcha Pull. Rock in peace brothers Dime and Vinnie.
3rd band with pantera and white zombie was eyehategod.

This is brilliant. Congratulations
If you ever get to speak to Bobby again, ask about the Cowboys demos and what came inbetween power metal and cowboys. I heard a few rumours back in the day that they were working on some quite different material to follow up power metal but ended up scrapping it then doing cowboys?
@@leeroden7900
No. CFH demos can be bought at a store.
@@integrity101 I know, that wasnt the point
@@leeroden7900 nothing was scraped bro. The first album they *wrote* with Philip was CFH written in 1988 & 89.

1:45:46 man this is just heart breaking, atleast with the tribute that's going on now you'd know dime would be happy to see them up on stage

Today is Dime's bday, RIP brother \m/
Is there any update on Jerry Abbot?
Pantera 3 Watch it go was fucking amazing! l got lucky enough to meet both of them at the clubhouse when I lived in Dallas. Both of them couldn't have been any nicer. Surely, gone too soon :(
I met them there, as well.

There was no mention of Phil’s back injury and how that factored in to the equation.
Ya boy, Bobby!
