None of the heavy hitters who raced that area in that time period have come forward about this car and it's validity of being a street (racing} legend. My take is sure that car traveled thru the area and peeps saw a cool black Hemi Challenger that came around time to time and vanished so to me that's the legend. Remember the owner was a Cop and if caught street racing he definitely would face stiff disciplinary action or worse.Being a Cop and hanging out there sooner or later someone might recognize him and he could not afford this.
Remember the Black Ghost from back in the day. Iconic car with lots of stories. Back when Challenger was really a muscle car. It's a true survivor. IMO you can't go wrong with an original Challenger. Thanks for sharing. Be safe and stay well.

Graveyard Cars, the guy is a Mopar affecianado, he was big until a few years back, but has since kinda all bit disappeared although he still restores them, but they all come out just like from the factory.

i don't know if this was known a 1064 426 HEMI with 4 barrel carb nascar banned it won every race it entered don't bring it back they offered it 2 carb models in street cars it legal now in nascar! about time 1070 rolled around nascar had wing cars on track & speed to fast! smaller motor less special cars, i give a bill E ford in race in 1985 broken oil fitting he last 2 laps over 5 miles behind field & with in a 100 laps he un lapped himself 2 times & won the race with out caution at all! this was with smaller cars and engines like 212 mph
Hate to be a Debbie downer but the hype about this car being a top street racer in Detroit is a bit off, a 14 second car on a good night, Silver Bullet was a 10 sec car, it's a nice mopar with all the bells and whistles that a true street racer would never have.
Great story, but it's a 4,000 lb.14 second car. Likely 13's with slicks, ignition and no mufflers. Not exactly street sweeper even in the early 70's.
