Another canny video Ian, yeah no big'uns but at least you's were out wetting a line and catching some small codlings 👍👍👏👏. All the best mate and tight lines Charlie 🎣🎣
Hi again Charlie lovely to hear from you!!! There is always that chance a decent fish is just around the corner but it wasn’t meant to be this time!!! Spring not far away now so hopefully sport will improve soon!!!! Cheers ian
Hi Gary thanks for watching!! I know that’s the theory but every year at this time we catch lots of codlets and say …. In two years they will be worth catching….but I’m not sure a lot survive to adulthood. However there must be hundreds of thousands out there!!!! Cheers ian
Totally enjoyed watching Ian I've been watching your videos for a bit now always entertaining as always buddy see you and Chris on the next one tight lines 🎣👍
Very kind of you Levo! Sometimes difficult to make a poor session entertaining but thought it had just enough content to make it interesting! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Hi Nice to see your video, as usual, as you say February is a poor month everywhere, East Devon beaches included ! Now fed up with winter conditions and looking forward to some warmer weather to “warm these old bones” and therefore the arrival of summer species especially the rays and smoothhounds Look forward to your next, go steady, best wishes to you and Chris
Hi Derek as you say we are looking forward to warmer weather! Just like you I love the smoothound they are the best sporting fish in our seas !! Will probably try for some plaice in another month or so on chesil and hope that we get our usual run of good bass locally in mid March! Tight lines mate cheers ian
Great to see you fishing again Ian. I think that February is the worst month for fishing locally. I was very lucky recently fishing at Ladye Bay with two of last year’s mackerel and managed a 3lb 4oz bass. Stay safe and tight lines Mike.
Hi Mike well done!!! I half hoped for a bass today but it’s usually mid March before they hit Brean in any numbers after they have spawned. February definitely my least favourite fishing month too!! So few cod this year unfortunately! Cheers ian
Hi Ian and Chris another hard session with small cod ☹️ seems to be like that at most places at the moment still enjoyable to watch 👍🎣 got to be a good one somewhere 😁 tight lines.
Hi Gary if you know where the bigger codling are please let me know!!😉 perfect conditions on Brean just so few decent fish…but it is February!!! Cheers ian
Nice little session Ian, you did well to find a break in the weather. As you say, we can only catch what's in front of us and February is never an easy month. Line wetted, blank beaten, well done. Cheers 👍👍
Hi Gareth I really fancied a decent fish today but there’s not a lot out there at the moment!! How is South Wales doing??? Worth popping over? Cheers ian
@@ianclarkfishing Yeah same over here Ian, hard work at the moment. Lots of small Codling about, like the ones you were catching in this video but the bigger fish are few and far between, lots of us are struggling. Few Ray and Conger coming out but patchy. Hopefully things will start to pick up come mid March and who knows, may even get a spring Cod run...or not ha!
Hi Chris and Ian not bad for February. Do you realise that you caught more codling that day than me and my have on a boat in Thames Estuary in last 6 years. We now call them unicorns as you have more chance of getting a unicorn than a codling lol . Please keep the videos coming enjoy watching them.
Hi Stephen lovely to hear from you! The SE cod seem to have gone completely!!! And the Bristol Channel cod are shrinking too!😂 That was pretty much perfect conditions today so the stocks here are not large unfortunately! But as you say it’s the worst month of the year…. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
hiya ian and chris , great session realy boys . its seems we only have very small codling all around the bristol channel at the moment with the odd bigger one !! ive got a few days of now so will be out and about on a few differant marks i will keep you posted . all the best to you both and take care gents

You and Chris always show the highs and the lows of fishing, you keep it real for all us fishermen! I know you have said in the comments that Chris is your digging bit*h🤣 but my back was aching just watching him.... Been trying for ages to get a longer pump, but since lockdown, everywhere sold out! But I found a guy who makes them on Facebook, I now have a 1.1m pump in marine grade steel, that I do not have to bend anymore! He makes them himself to order. I have never got so many worms in an hour, as I have with his pumps, with so little effort put in!!
Hi Simon so glad you enjoyed the video!! Unfortunately my bait digging days are well behind me but fortunately Chris loves doing it!!! Never tried a pump before and I’m not sure how it would manage for blow lug??? Would be interested to know how you use it!! Thanks for watching again and taking the time to comment cheers ian
Great to see you both back on the beach, February is a strange month. Spring is not that far away!! All the best Chris. P.s thought you'd sorted that squeaky reel 😁😂👍
Thanks Adrian it’s a pretty simple beach to fish and can be excellent too but always going to be a challenge in February unfortunately!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Packed the gear up at the start of December, will get back out in March. Looking forward to it, mind you. Hopefully catch some codling on the way through and back on the bass again. Not been a particularly nice winter for standing about in the channel. Cheers.
Yes mid March the bass will be about snd chance of a spring cod or two!! If there were any numbers of cod about that tide was perfect for them!! My expectations were low and so it proved!! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian

Pretty much same story in most places on the BC regarding Codling size but we won't let a thing like that stop us. Only need one decent fish. 😩 For what's it worth, tried Chesil during the weather window. dogfish and whiting. Tight lines both.

Hi Ian I follow you here on TH-cam to gain my fishing knowledge as have learned so much from you. I would love to fish brean beach like you so I could dig some fresh bait but I’m struggling to find parking down there via google maps. I am from the midlands and don’t know that area, is there anywhere to park within reason to the beach that you can park a medium wheelbase man. Thanks in advance and happy hooking.
Hi Roger so nice to hear from you and I’m so pleased you are enjoying the channel! We park opposite Brean village hall on the beach road…there is a grass verge there to park on but dont park behind the yellow lines or you will get a ticket. There is a cut through to the right of the hall a short walk to the beach! Hope that helps! Bass about and sole in another month or so! Cheers ian
Hi great video. Can I please ask, If you don't get a bite do you just leave the bait out so that it essentially becomes further and further out? Or do you rebait often and recast?
We leave it out … maybe up to an hour! No crabs about so you can do that easily! Often fish are at long range so walk back letting line out!! Thanks for watching cheers ian
Thanks for replying Ian. I had a good angling friend who said he would fish a double squid at BOS lower light and not recast the entire tide. If he caught he did and if not he dragged it outta the mud when the tide turned if he could! Is this even a method or is he winding me up?
In winter a big squid bait can catch cod and I’ve definitely left one out for 3 hours before and occasionally at high tide a cod takes it…. But only very occasionally!!!! Usually a thornback takes it instead. A useful method if you fish worm bait on another rod!! Cheers ian
Thanks for the video Ian and Chris, maybe bigger ones next time. Do you know how deep the water was where you were fishing? As it didn't look that deep to me. 👍👍👍🎣🎣🎣

Hi paul lovely to hear from you. Usually dig about 30 yards down from the first signs of the lugworm casts. The whole beach is good for digging no real hot spots!!! I reckon 50 worms plenty for 2 rods….usually no more than 4 casts each per tide!!! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment cheers ian
