I think it could be useful as a sudden one attempt weapon. You walk up to an opponent, and use it with intent to kill quickly, and not draw out the fight. Other than that, I don't really see it as being practical.

Lumiya is the one who introduced the lightwhip and in her hands is a deadly weapon. She is a strong female character done right and a pride for the real canon.
10:09 “and the two are vaguely romantic.” How are people vaguely romantic? Do you write love letters starting with to whom it may concern? Or are they just checking out each other’s junk with the force when they think the other isn’t looking?
Kit Fisto used a lightwhip. Seems like a skilled user could use it to great effect being able to deflect at range, block attacks against allies, trip up opponents and keep distance between the user and their enemy. Very flexible if hard to master, and it can't get tangled up in an opponent's lightsaber: the user can just switch it on an off to reset it!
Finally! Some legendary content brought to light! Always an audible and intellectual stimulate of the mind and Force knowledge you bring to the Jedis and Siths. And, as always, thank you, and have a great day!
Honestly the whip might be favored by female combatants due to how often female characters are portrayed as long range combatants instead of close quarters and I’m not sure it’s any more sadisitic than a sword it’s just a range weapon….
Why do Jedi wield such weapon? Well ... the true answer sustain from two parts: 1) Whips seems cool ... 2) Nobody in charge cares about continuity, canon or lore in general ... And in the end that is all that matters. So if one day they decide that a gun that uses lightsabers as ammo would be cool ... oh wait. Nevermind ... i mean if one day they decide that it would be cool for a Force user to deflect turbolasers with Saber ... oh wait. Nevermind ... i mean if one day they decide that it would be cool for a Force user to slice TIE fighter ... oh wait. You get the idea. ;)
You know, they could have had all this unique stuff from Legends if they just decided to keep it canon. Now, they've run creatively dry of ideas and are being cheap and reusing concepts that already existed. It's pathetic. Of course, no credit is going to be given to those who originally created and introduced this in Legends. That's what upsets me about Disney Star Wars. No creativity or originality. Taking credit and success from hard-working, dedicated fans.

Lightsabers are dangerous enough…to their welders. Historically that was one of the main reasons why non-Force Sensitives didn’t use them. The more complicated the lightsaber becomes the more dangerous it becomes to the wielder unless said wielder is abnormally skilled. Lumiya was, if memory serves, exceptionally agile even before she became a cyborg.
A lightwhip would be a great surprise secondary weapon. Master a lightsaber and lightwhip. Engage your opponent with a traditional lightsaber and then use your other hand with surprise lightwhip to finish them.
I know we are talking about space wizards, but still concept of weapon like this is just stupid for me. There is so much what can go wrong for you while using it and almost nothing to gain except some reach and surprise at start of battle.
Imagine a wielder of this weapon mastering telekinesis so they not only have great control of the weapon, but be able to move the blade with the force to strike their targets at different angles.

Lightwhip is actually just a misunderstood lightsaber. If a Jedi has a problem with the Force flowing in his body, his lightsaber won't hold its shape and it will become a whip instead. It can be easily transformed back into a lightsaber if the Force networks within the body get fixed.
Eh, Disney has 0 respect for star wars, the existing lore or characters. I have no real problem with the whip being used as a weapon, but the writers of all these shows sre more interested in making star wars their own, impriting themself and their ideas into the medium rather then using what already exists. If I remember correctly, I heard on another channel (Retney’s Holocron) that Anakin once asked Obi-wan if the Jedi had ever used other weapons.
Yes, in one of the comics a young Anakin asks Obi-Wan about different type of weapons and why Jedi prefer the lightsaber.

It has the same drawbacks than using a flail, it's dangerous to the owner, dangerous for allies, and contextual.
