Just came across your video by chance. I am irish in my seventies so not looking for a career. You are inspiring and I hope your life has continued in happiness
Is there a way I can see an example of branch slots available for an OCS class? Hoping there is something out on the internet that uses a real example to show what it looked like
I definitely know that they will not pre-release any sort of list. I’ve never tried to search online for an existing list of branches but I can tell you that there’s basically 160 slots for each of the 160 candidates and many of those are hybridized as well as people can branch one MOS and transfer to another when they hit CPT and head to CCC
@@SixFigureCouchSurfer follow on question .. when is your post/station of duty determined? Is this something that happens at OCS.. or more towards the mid-point of BOLC-B?
Did you go to OCS with any Marines who had switched over to the Army? I’m prior enlisted infantry in the Marines, and ship to OCS in a couple months. I’m curious, based on cultural or tactical differences, did you see Marines struggle to pick up particular things because of old habits? Or did they pick things up quicker? If you didn’t go through with any Marines, my question still stands, but from an overall prior enlisted standpoint. What were some of the things that prior service guys excelled at or struggled with? Great video man!
Hey thanks for this video it helped :) Going to OCS in the fall. Do you know how the ACFT will affect the OML? I know it varies by class but how difficult was it to get a non-combat arms role (Logistics, Signal, AG) in your class?
Hey there, glad it helped, thank you so much for viewing. everything varies class to class so you'll have to ride it out. so basically your PT score does impact your OML as it lays a solid foundation for you, usually 280/300 on the original test format was great. Not sure about the new test will impact things but def score high. Non combat roles were definitely plentiful for the most part so don't get too distracted with fight for OML points. AG was on the lower end, finance was tough to get, logistics and signal should be a little more available.
Totally depends on military needs. For my class they had more than 10 openings. For other classes they had zero. Crazy how random things can be. Sorry i cant provide more insight than that. But normally yes it is competitive. But certainly doable
Thank you for the tips and sharing your experience! You mentioned a higher OML score will increase the chance of placing in the branch of your choice. How many MOS/branches can you select? Is there a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice?
Kobe Christo Hey there I appreciate you commenting and viewing the video. So essentially you have the ability to list out all the branches that you want in order. Now the assumption on the surface is that the more points you have Better the odds of you getting the branch you want however there are several caveat to this especially depending upon how many slots are open per branch for your class and also how many people desire those slots. At the end of the day those things totally go different ways that people would assume so don’t take everything at face value just understand there are a lot of moving parts to the military that are difficult to predict
Was your OCS the same that National Guard would attend? I hear going OCS right from basic as opposed to having some enlisted time is “bad” cause your soldiers think you don’t know what it’s like to be an enlisted guy. Thoughts?
I went to Federal OCS but currently train with National Guard soldiers who went to state OCS and we all get along well =). Its def ok to NOT have enlisted experience although having it does of course grant you deeper knowledge of the military. We.can still be very successful military leaders if we are sure to listen to those who have served longer in order to gain their wisdom.
Really great information. I guess my biggest fear ( like most ) is if I get a 280 or below PT score I'm gonna end up branched chem or ADA. What's the average PT score for that initial test? I'm most interested in MI / Infantry. Do you have other recommendations on branches that have a lot of opportunity? It's hard to find much information on what branches are more or less desirable and why. Thanks again! Ps. Definitely not looking to go back to Police work after the Army haha.
don't worry to much about that. you'd be surprised how branching can be altered by many other variables. but of course PT your bet! Averages vary class to class but don't worry about all the hearsay around you. Just do you and do your best, you'll be fine. The Army has many opportunities and paths. Even if you think you're heading down a path you won't like it can completely change in so many ways. hard to describe this all; I know I'm being vague =)
Graduating college with a kinesiology degree in a year or so and thinking about joining the army to become an officer. I would love to be in the medical core, what do you think the chances are for that branch?
Medical requires a Med license I believe. At least on Officer side. For the most part. It’s not a branch they provided for officers at federal OCS. My buddy had the Navy pay for his Med school and then he served as a flight surgeon with USMC. If you get your med degree first that’ll open more doors
When you talk about your "1st PT Score" are you referring to the PT test that you perform before the boards interview, or a test that you do when you get to OCS?

How competitive do you think branching military intelligence is? I understand that it isn't a combat arms branch but is still highly coveted. Thanks.
