  • Wind turbines may not be the most practical or cost-effective option for generating power at a residential home. Firstly, a wind turbine typically requires a consistent and strong wind, which may not be present in all areas, especially in urban environments. Additionally, wind turbines can be visually intrusive and may not be suitable for certain neighborhoods or HOA. They also require a large amount of space for installation and maintenance, which may not be available on most residential properties. Also, the cost of purchasing and installing a wind turbine at a residential home can be quite high, and may not provide a sufficient return on investment. There may be other options like solar panels, energy efficient appliances and energy storage that can be more cost-effective and practical for residential use.

    Thank you for the information. As with solar panels, there are more efficient ways to build wind turbines (not all are good). In my view the strength MAY be that when there is less sun (cloudy and windy) you can get more power from wind than solar, and by using both, one can benefit from consistency7 better than from peak production. But this all is affected by where one lives.

    I bought a 600 watts horizontal wind turbine. I'm putting the pole up tomorrow. I live in Oklahoma. It is much windier here. I see yours isn't catching any air. Probably need to get it up off that roof about ten feet. I have twelve hundred watts of solar panels, and twenty big marine batteries. It is cloudy here sometimes, and that's usually when the wind blows. Your little roof ornamental windmill looks nice. I can see there's not enough wind. Well there's not enough blade surface either. Mine has a five foot circle that the blades make. I held it up in the wind just for a few seconds, and it really gets going fast, so I had to turn it sideways. It wasn't anything like yours, when I get it up 19 feet it's going to be spinning really fast. I'm welding the flange to the pipe today. I may get it put up tomorrow. I expect it will make 350-450 watts when it's windy. It will be seven feet above the barn roof. I think yours needs to be a little higher to get into a steady wind. It's stopping, then it gets a little bit. My solar system isn't making much today, but it's pretty windy out there. Maybe you can sell the wind generator and get a few more panels.

      Hi David. thank you for the reply. The turbine was more an experiment that anything. My solar and Li-ion batteries supply more that I need.

      Oh, okay. I have mine up and it's actually making some power. I ordered two more 100 watts panels, myself. That brings me to 1400 watts of them. Today I had too much and used electric heat for a dump load.

    Wind is a good addition to solar, but, I wouldn't try to go wind only. No matter what you do, you need the battery! I recommend enough battery capacity to meet your electrical demand requirement for 24 hours, with no generated energy. I say that, because during sun or wind, the turbine/panels will supply demand, as well as charge the battery. That limits the discharge of the battery to ~50%, which is optimum, for the lowest possible levelized cost of energy storage. Whether Lithium or Lead Acid.

    • @PPGRiaan
      @PPGRiaan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matt. You can never have to mush energy. What you generate can always be put to good use. While having a wind turbine would be beneficial, the cost of purchasing and operating it is not worth it in my case. the new Tessup 7 is R33000 and then you still need to step up the voltage to work with the inverter. I can buy another 5KV of batteries for that price, and it is all plug-and-play. You might find it worthwhile if your system works differently. Alternative energy can be approached in so many ways.

    Hi Riaan dankie vir die inligting. Net a vraag. Waar is jou turbine geïnstalleer en julle darem genoeg wind. Sal dit werk vir iemand wat by die kus bly met wind van die see af. Ek het alreeds 18 x 200w sonpanele met 48v 900amp battery en het net so bietjie krag nodig om deur die nag te kom. Mid somer loop ons 24/7 op battery krag en inverter. Dit raak net a probleem as die dae korter raak.

      Hi Abraham. Ek bly in Jeffreys Bay, ja hier is baie wind. Dit gaan jou nog steeds beter uitwerk om n 2.7kw Li-ion battery te koop as wat jy a 2kw turbine moet opsit, en jy is verseker dat jy die krag het.

    *All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity! And only at very high costs!*
    Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground. It is also extremely gusty, which usually reduces the service life very much.
    Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high tower for the winter.
    *With solar panels, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

      Hi. Yes I agree. But for this turbine to make the required amount of power to run the house at night you need about 36km/hour and more constant wind. Now it is still cheaper to buy and integrate the lithium battery into your home IF YOU HAVE SOLAR

    • @JamesBiggar
      @JamesBiggar 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      DONT! My god I can't stand these fraudulent companies. 99% of micro turbine companies need to be taken to court for deceptive marketing. You're never going to find a true 7 kW (not kWh - two different things) turbine for $1000. It's just not possible. You won't even find a decent 3 kW turbine for that price unless you build your own axial flux, which is far superior to any cogging radial junk on the market today. Become familiar with the wind turbine power equation, and use it to test the claims that you see online. P = 0.5 Cp ρ π R2 V3, where Cp is the coefficient of performance (efficiency factor, in percent), ρ is air density (in kg/m3), R is the blade length (in meters) and V is the wind speed (in meters per second). If they're saying 7 kW, look at the rated wind speed first. Is that 7kW at the industry standard speed rating of 26 mph, or 7kW at hurricane speeds? Then look at the rotor size and punch in the numbers. If the blades are any less than 10.5ft long each (21ft rotor diameter), then they're full of poo. If they don't provide graphs or specs, that's a red flag. Look at the 7 kW Tesup (hawt), for example. No specs or information on the purchase page other than the power claim. Dig deeper into their google drive docs and you'll see that it only has a 7.7ft diameter rotor. I understand the avg person isn't going to pick up on it, but as a builder who's been working in the industry for over a decade, that stands out as a giant red flag to me. I know for a fact from experience alone that 7 kW from a 7.7ft diameter turbine (3.85ft long blades) is IMPOSSIBLE to achieve in normal wind environments. But all you need to verify that is the wind power equation. It's indisputable. This isn't a mystery science that the industry has yet to figure out. It's fool proof, and the best defense that consumers have against fraudulent companies like Tesup. The best that you can expect from a 7.7ft turbine at 26 mph is 4.8 kWp assuming a VERY generous peak efficiency of 40% in ideal conditions (ie temp, air density, tower height, etc). 99.9% of the time, the best turbines will avg 30% eff, so a more realistic output would be 3.6 kWp at 26 mph. Use this wind power equation to test claims and you'll find that most are fraudulent. If you want a turbine that you can count on and know exactly what to expect from it, then build an axial flux.
