Having read dozens of scientific articles on savonius, there is a use case for this kind of turbine (they are quite sturdy, and good at pumping water). But almost every video and product based on savonius is trash! You are basically the only one I found that understands that and explain it very well! To resume, the best savonius design is:
    1. Enclosed top and botton with discs 10% wider than the diameter of the blades.
    2. Rotor with Aspect Ratio of 5 (5 times as high as it's diameter).
    3. Two bucket design with two rotors stacked in 90° angles, or 3 blades with higher aspect ratio to compensate (at least 6).
    4. Instead of semicircular (half cylinder - like a C) blades, the blades should look like a 2 plane wings joined by their rear part (so it looks like a "S"). This way the rotor produce lift straight in the wind, but also, the returning blade throws the wind on advancing blade, reducing drag and improving "push". This is QUITE an improvement over the old "half cylinder" ones!
    5. A decent savonius is able to reach about 200 rpm max, after that stronger winds only means more torque. They start with a gentle breeze!
    6. If you overbuild them and their generators to withstand hurricane winds, they will outlive you.
    7. Fit a sensor to be able to vary the load, so to draw huge power on high winds, but to reduce the load to avoid stalling at low winds.
I wish every one to see this, so they smell the scams and make decent savonius turbines themselves!

sorry but this is useless. this kind of turbine is ineffective by design. what you do is like putting whiped cream on old donuts- sure it makes them more attractive but if you put this efford to better turbine ( 3 blade standard design) you'd have much better outcome

This sounds like a lot of "creative math" being used by the marketing teams for some of these turbines. There's one other thing you should do, before installing a turbine. Measure the DC resistance from leg to leg of the turbine generator. If you multiply that resistance by the output current, that will tell you how much voltage is lost to resistance. If you multiply the current by itself, then multiply by the DC resistance, you can determine how much energy is lost as heat in the circuit, and not making it to the battery! A turbine rated for 12 volts has to have 1/4 the resistance of a 24 volt turbine with the same wattage rating, to be equally efficient. If you see a 24 volt turbine promising 500 watts, a DC resistance of only 1 Ohm is going to dissipate 400 watts of heat, to reach the 20 amps necessary to produce 500 watts @ 25 volts. Under those conditions, the alternator is less than 56% efficient. The sad thing is, with small turbines, this would be more than acceptable.

Hello. Great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have an Ista Breeze 1500W 48V, and you are right. The blades are very bad, they only produce electricity with hurricane winds. Also the quality of the generator is very poor. I have disassembled it and it is sad to see the stator and the magnets. Very poor quality in general.
It is difficult to choose a good wind turbine because sellers always exaggerate with the output generated.
Could you advise which wind turbines are of good quality, and really produce?

Also if it was 7kw they deliver a inverter with the 7kw only 1 problem the inverter is a 2-3kw inverter? But also those inverters has channels 1 1.5kw I wanted an explanation I never got it.
I have a 2kw atlas and it turnes only 1 coil isn't doing anything AMD the rotor is damaged broken magnets also 1 longer Magnet sticking out. The device delivered with the atlas went out with a big bang and lots of smoke also it was produced in Turky . I wanted to install lots on rooftops so I asked a 7kw showmodel to let people see it works I didn't get 1. Also I asked for a solution for the 7kw to grid. I didn't get one. But one thing the atlas 2.0 turns and produces power with the 2kw turbine. But it's with 1 coil less. And yes the support is bad it's a pitty because its a beautiful product. I wanted to take over the support in my country but I didn't get any answer. As I would say the 2kw version works. 7kw it would be a Bit heavy.

*All practical tests show that small wind turbines hardly generate any electricity.* Because there is hardly any wind close to the ground - and electricity yield is proportional to the third power of the wind speed: 100% more wind generates 800% more electricity!
Only if you need to be self-sufficient from the power grid, you should install the largest possible wind turbine on a high mast.
*With solar modules, on the other hand, you can reliably generate green electricity for 25 years at approx. 3-10 cent/kWh!*

They might not be lying, but they just cleverly used a 180km/h wind as their standard. The whole website etc is incredibly well made. So this is how they just market something beyond what is true.

    • @4nrgyTech
      @4nrgyTech  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

but even this is not true. they just calculated wind energy at this speed and multiplied it by some made up efficiency. problem is with savonius turbines turbulences are so significant that above 16-17m/s efficiency goes to zero. Ask anyone who build this kind of turbine. on hurricanes this doesnt produce any energy( bonus- also falls apart, mine did)
