    Michael Fassbender is a talented guy.
    His agent is not.

    Seems like Fassbender keeps picking the wrong projects. A shame really, he's a good actor.

    • @5ilver42
      @5ilver42 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      It is a shame because a a lot of bad movies could become better movies if edited differently. Some it's obvious from the script, but if it's a professionally run, there's little to no difference between a good film and a bad film on set. :(

    • @Tamaki742
      @Tamaki742 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      5ilver42 The director said he couldn't even film 10% to 15% of the script, that's why the editing is so choppy.

    So this being a Norwegian book, the guy's name in Norwegian is Harry Hole. The Norwegian name/word "Hole" is pronounced differently and does not mean... an orifice.
    And they just. They just kept his name in English. And nobody in the whole process went "hang on, this is gonna be mocked to bits, isn't it?"
    Granted, considering that the whole movie's been slaughtered by almost literally everyone who's seen it, I guess there wasn't much thought involved. Sad for a Norwegian to see a Norwegian book go this way.
    Go see "Trollhunter" instead. It's even more Norwegian and a ton more fun.

  • @ishaantiwari
    @ishaantiwari 7 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Have read the book, it's actually pretty good will have to see the movie to know what they changed which I guess is a lot. The name Harry Hole was lost in translation, it makes more sense in the native language the books are written in or so I've heard.

    • @Lilletrilletott
      @Lilletrilletott 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Ishaan Tiwari the books are in norwegian, as a norwegian, i can assure you it makes more sense in the original language

    • @azraelswrd
      @azraelswrd 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah, over at Midnight's Edge the host Andre (who is Norwegian and had a walk-on in the movie) goes over the translation and how it's really more in line with "Hill" but because of the way it's spelled, they went with "Hole". He wasn't a big fan of this movie either since he saw it last week in Norway.
      But starting a movie based on the 7th book of a series and a director who opted to go "atmospheric" instead of building up the main character, well you get this mess.

  • @TheDolphindanI

    Me and my wife went to see it on Thursday night and I agree with this review 100%. There were moments where the killer's 'motive' was all over the place confusing. Is he killing them because of "X"........oh, wait.....he's actually killing people because of "Y".............OH....NO, WAIT......who fkn knows. Even the snowmen themselves were inconsistent as hell.

    Suicide Squad's editing was terrible. We know nothing about most of the characters. They have no charisma. The movie is all over the place. I'm sure it works in the comics, but it's messy in the movie. It does these flashbacks that are so out of place. In the end guys, This movie was a fucking wreck. The movie is full of awkward moments that don't need to be in there.
    And Suicide Squad is Definitely worth Buying on Blu-Ray.

    Jeremy's cold opening is exactly how I feel about the books this movie is based on. And the rest of his review also perfectly captured what I feel about the books. I tried reading the first two Harry Hole novels, and I found them to be inexcusably boring. The worst part was Harry himself. There's just nothing special about him. He's a tortured, alcoholic cop who's willing to bend the rules to catch his killer. How is that not a character we've seen been done better a hundred times before?
    That being said though, I just finished The Son by the same author and I absolutely loved it. So I know the author can write good stuff, so my question is, do the Harry Hole novels get better? I really want to like them, I do, but the Bat and Cockroaches did not impress me.

Oh, and thanks for the honest and as always fun review!!

    The novel the movie is based on and the series surrpounding the character Harry Hole, does amazingly well here in Norway, in which both the author and plot is based. Scandinavia in general read a lot of crime-fiction in bleak, snowy terrain as that is what we know and, for the most part, love. Also his last name Hole, isn't pronounced at all like an english speaker would say it. Closest thing I could type might be "Hol-eh" or something, but it sounds perfectly logical to any Scandi. The book series is also 11 books strong, where The Snowman is the 7TH! book in the series. Why they decided to dramatize a book where the character and his relationships are already well developed and understood by the reader is beyond me. There's a reason for his alcoholism, a reason why a seemingly has-been cop sits on FBI training and why he's antagonistic to most everyone around him.
    This movie should not have been made. Im not saying ever, just not now, and preferably, not with the US as a target audience. It should have had a norwegian director, with a mix of scandis as actors. The series is well-loved here, and we'll treat this movie like the world treats Twilight. A blemish on the skin of an otherwise decent series of novels.

    The book series are great, one is set in Australia that was a lot of fun. “Daughter of God” or “Exposed” you choose the title is one I would nominate. And it pains me because I love Keanu Reeves. That was a mess, so much character development that went nowhere, none of the police work or the crime gel together. The delusions of the girl are understandable but it was just so hard to follow. I will watch it again some day I guess to make sure I didn’t miss anything!

    • @BoredAndBrowsing
      @BoredAndBrowsing 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shirtlessclown I honestly don't know why people disliked it, if you don't compare it to the games then it is an interesting concept for a movie. People should stop comparing movies to their original work and just watch, it makes life more enjoyable, less bitching involved. Just my 2 cents.

    • @Shirtlessclown

      Mister X
      If you don't compare a video game adaptation to the video game it is based off then it is interesting?
      That reasoning is why we have the fuck awful Resident Evil movies (Not the CGI ones, those are great), and shit as hell book adaptations like Eragon and The Dark Tower.

    • @BoredAndBrowsing
      @BoredAndBrowsing 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem here you seem to have is your expectations are from two different things. I don't care for video game to movie comparisons because people like you who do often complain about the movie not being anywhere near accurate and blah blah blah, which leaves you not enjoying the movie. Why should I care about what a movie is based on as long as it's entertaining, I don't care about the other half of what you do because i'd be in the same position as you, always complaining. Now if you don't or can't seem to comprehend your problems with these movies then it's you and not the movie which is the problem. People complain so much that they can't ever enjoy a movie for what it is, a movie. Get your popcorn and watch, its not rocket science, and if you can't do that then like I said - you are the problem.

    • @Daniel_C_Griffin
      @Daniel_C_Griffin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're going to adapt something to another format, you should be faithful to the source material. Otherwise what's the point of adapting it in the first place? Assassin's Creed was technically faithful to the lore, even if they decided to fuck the Animus in favour of some weird machine that makes you mimic the actions you're reliving (Which must be tiring as fuck by the way)
      The writing was... Not the greatest. But what killed it for me was the jump cuts back to present day MID-FIGHT SCENE. Once I could understand, if only to show you how this new Animus worked, but they keep doing it. It wasn't an awful movie (It certainly wasn't a Resident Evil) but it was average at best. Which is a shame, because I love Fassbender.
      I just wish people would just respect their source material. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever have a truly amazing adaptation of a game, we've had a few movie to game ones that were excellent; Alien: Isolation and Shadow of Mordor.
      Rant over. Sorry.

    It probably doesn't help that this is an adaption of the sixth or seventh book in the series, to be fair. Shame, cause the book is FANTASTIC, but a lot of it deals with Hole's thought and mentality, so that might be difficult to translate to screen. Definitely recommend the book, though.
