@@brendawheeler4486 hello to West Virginia. Thank you Brenda for stopping by. The Squad is amazing for helping me and Stella reach our goal. The rain sounds do make you sleep well and takes us back.
I just came over from Cog Hill. Been with them since almost their beginning. I'm watching one of your videos now, except I paused to type you a question, and I've subscribed. One year ago we had a fire in our house,/garage. I've counted 37 pieces of cast iron that is now bad. Not including lids. The fire dept, and the insurance company have told me it can't be fixed or restored because of possible chemicals that were used to put the fire out. I've never seen anything dried on it, it's just rusty from so much water. They said it was hazardous for me to keep. Now I'm 69 yrs old tomorrow. Some of this was my grandparents, some my parents and some mine. I think about what my grandparents would say. They would tell me to throw it in a fire, then start to working it with newspaper, sand, dirt, foil, brushes, scubbers... get the gunk off then season it by rubbing a cloth with bacon grease on it, put in the fire, or oven. "YOU CANT HURT IT". well I think if it's blazing hot and you plunge it in cold water it would warp. Please give me your opinion...is it saveable??? Doing all the things to reseason it? And I have a couple of pieces that are heavily caked on the outside with grease from frying funnelcakes and fry bread at festivals. I also have a couple of Wagoner ones.. I haven't thrown any out because they mean a lot to me. They are just in the shed. I did heat one in the oven to around 250, spray oven cleaner on it, stick it in a brown paper sack for a few days, then cleaning it real good, then back to the oven on 350 for an hour. Turned the oven off and went to bed. The next day I cooked an entire pound of bacon, then fried potatoes and onions in it till they were good and crispy, then tossed everything but the pan. Then I went to putting on maybe 7 layers of the oil rag, building up that season level. I have used it, no side effects to me and husband. BUT should I toss the rest in case it really is dangerous? I figure at 69 and 73, we didn't have much to loose. But I did want to pass to my kids and grandkids. I called lodge, they are here in Utah where I am. They told me to trash them and just buy more!!! NOPE....I want mine, and of course they told me to trash and buy more!! That's how they make money!!!. So , please tell me what you would do? Thanks so much. ❤ a big thanks for your opinion!!
@@juliehiestand8180 I’m glad you held onto your cast iron. Remember, it’s iron so any chemicals and rust will come off. I have restored several pieces that were bad but I’ve never had to throw any away. It’s a lot of work but it can be cleaned. Don’t be afraid to use a wire brush, sos pads, scotch brite or any other abrasive material. Don’t be afraid to use fish washing liquid to clean it with. Remember, we’re starting from scratch. Strip it down to factory surface and start over with your seasoning. A few hours in a 450 degree oven will do miracles. Try using grape seed oil as your first coating and then use vegetable oils. Or vegetable shortening. I bet it will come back to life. I’ve watched people put them in fires and it works to help with the cleaning but be careful because any cracks or splits normally come from being in a fire. Thanks for subscribing and I really hope you enjoy the channel. We have a lot of fun.
Don’t have any shortage of that stuff here Tony but there is nothing more relaxing then the sound of the rain on the roof no doubt about it. I don’t get to hear the thunder here maybe once a year if lucky lol lots lots lots of rain 🌧️ then lots lots of snow it’s pretty but doesn’t make relaxing sounds hahaha! 5 more to go last look yippee 👏 🥳👍Hi Catherine👋🏻Billyboots says I hear that rain mom I’m not going walkie lol😳🐾🐶also I loved Monsoon season when I lived in Tucson one of my favorites to watch the storms roll in the very day it was awesome!!!
