There's something special about this game series. Legacy of Kain has amazing acting, great dialogue, complex writing and a very original take on vampires as a people.
when I was a kid i didnt see this game as a vampire game, (i think vampires are over rated) but I loved the interdimension, under world, matearlistic world the time and the sword and all of that. The writer is very intelligent, and that i what I liked about this game
Seeing all this gameplay with such mastery made me realize that I was a very brave child. This game gave me fear, suspense, agony, all while holding the controller, but I played it anyway. And I made it to the end! With a magazine that I rode my bike a long way to a newsstand to buy. This video is amazing! Thank you for bringing this memory to us in such a beautiful way (graphics and gameplay). 👏
Yes, very nicely done. The key is isolation and lunge attacks. Most vulnerable time is when Raziel is drawing soul while other enemies are around, early on. Only watch a a few minutes so a far. I'd imagine glyph magic helps in tough situation later on. Soul Reaver will be really strong also. Kain fights may be somewhat difficult with teleportation, but there may be a way to bait him as he teleports to location furthest from Raziel.
Oh yeah... and Moebius helped him with his manipulations really well too with how he used and played Kain so well to galvanize a second purge of vampires when Kain killed William the Just before he would become the Nemesis.
I haven't played the first game, and the other games but logically, a Lovecraft monster isn't the hero, it's 90% the bad guy. Love this game, pure art.

What a classic. I played Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain while staying home from school with a fever in the 90s. It was terrible and wonderful, somehow still remember it pretty well. I was upset that this new game introduced a new format from the first game, but got over it pretty quick. Seeing Kain become the antagonist just made him even more of a badass.
So many block puzzles! It also didn’t help that I got lost so easily in this game. You did a masterful play through and have justly earned a new subscriber. I eagerly hope that some day you will give us a play through of Soul Reaver 2.

@@Katanalein The game's like a hedge maze where you have to bump in to all the dead ends and some sections of the maze require a key that requires you to remember where that locked door is to progress through the maze. It's almost point-and-click in levels of it's ambiguity.

Very easily, the most compelling story of any game I've ever played! Legacy of Kane: Soul Reaver was, out and out, an excellent game - one of my very favorites - a true masterpiece!
Best underrated game ever. I have to admit I didnt play the other games about this saga but this one was specially very memorial. I named one of my kids Raziel, because I really felt like Raziel when I was a kid.
😂 I can well imagine that, games from that time are often relatively short, but since you have hardly any help (there was almost no help on the internet and the game has no waypoints) it often takes a long time to find out what to do next. And it's true, if you closed your eyes and just followed the soundtrack and dialog, you wouldn't believe it was a game from the 90s 😯

Admit it, the actual reason you cut the intro is because Raziel takes some serious damage when he is cast into the abyss ;) Seriously though, that was incredibly well played. Not only the no damage part (combat was never the tough part of the game) but you went through all the mazes, back and forth as abilities came, just so incredibly smoothly, finding your staff where you put it down an hour ago, just incredibly well thought out. I fondly remember my confusion about Dumah going on for literal weeks, I just had no clue what to do and just how to beat him. To see the full game completed in less than 5 hours is a strange feeling indeed.

Given what we know about Kain's plans now... I wonder if Kain didn't really order the Razielim annihilated, but instead, the brothers opted to do it, acting as if they were doing it on Kain's orders. Especially since Kain was said to disappear before Raziel met him again at his throne in the Pillars.
@BryonYoungblood Kain condemning Raziel into the Abyss for the crime of evolving before him was just a smokescreen for his larger plans I'm sure the remaining lieutenants took pleasure in slaughtering the children of Kain's once most favoured son

😂 That probably also but especially very much practice 😉 Blood Omen 2 I have played through only once, the game has always crashed at a boss. I got a new copy from Eidos which didn't help either. Only when I put the PS2 vertically it continued 😂
Yes, the game is relatively complex and doesn't really show you where to go next. But that's also part of the fascination of this game, because you have to get to grips with the game world. I played it in native 4K, only the textures were upscaled 😊

@@Katanalein Yea, this game is 'point and click' obscure at times, I used a guide to hint where I was supposed to go and what to do to keep the story progressing at a decent pace. I'm playing with the Wrace mod that modernizes a game and a in-game map and even then I got stuck from time to time.
The coolest part of this game I realized just today playing the spider part is the most hardest part of the game, also the music sewers that you open if you do it right after the boss there a 3 more music sewer, open them. cutscene comes and u kill all spider monsters.they don't come. back
I know that the title of this game sais "no damage" but this game is quite difficult, I know I played it myself. You played the game better than i ever could.

@@chalismaximus1 Nothing special. Shadow play@110mbit/s The rest is done in post processing of the video (custom filter, neural network/deep learning upscaler). Quality was always important to me, I want it to look like the game is being played on local hardware and not just like a heavily compressed TH-cam video. 😂
@@chalismaximus1 Most of the time I use NNEDI3 in combination with some filters. In my opinion, NNEDI3 has the advantage that it usually does not disimprove the image. Topaz Videolabs is also good, but often looks unnatural after upscaling.
@@Katanalein Ohhh right. I've only just realised why you're upscaling. Because you're not playing or recording in native 4K. I once tried to do just that and the TH-cam compression fills it with blobby artifacts, but your videos some how manage to avoid this. I assumed the artifacts were from a bitrate compression done by TH-cam. I don't understand how you're avoiding that problem. My 4K source files are visually perfect, then TH-cam turns them into mud.
The biggest threat to a no damage run in this game imo is 2 things zephons spider minions and if you get caught up in the water with the shark minions of rahab without a plan

@@Katanalein Make no mistake, I love Medievil too, I've just always felt that if allowed to be remade, the Legacy of Kain games would have the same, if not better magic than it did before
@@sirdogith3783 😂 Oh I love the Medievil games but I always felt that Legacy of Kain (and others) was the bigger franchise and Medievil was never particularly successful. (never looked up the actual sales, it's just my feeling) That's why I've always been very surprised that Medievil is playable on every PlayStation and there was even a great remake in 2019 (plays imo like the original only with perfect camera controls, all audio dialogues were also taken over). I also made a 100% walkthrough for all four Medievil games. But there were certainly many games on the PlayStation 1 that were more successful and didn't get such special treatment. Hence my assumption that someone at Sony is particularly fond of this franchise 😉 Legacy of Kain would definitely have deserved the same treatment and as I said, there are rumours...
@@Cinemaphile7783 But unfortunately with much less effort than was put into Medievil. The remaster also looks very comic-like, no longer as realistic, dark and depressing as the original. Fortunately, you can still switch back and forth between the graphic styles, but then probably also with the poorer character models. 😒 Don't get me wrong, it's great that the franchise hasn't been completely forgotten but it deserved a lot more love imo.
I got stuck at 25:00 because I kept thinking I could move the block over that little bump, but for some reason you can only flip the block over big bumps. Oi, videogame logic.

The Empracer Group acquired the rights to the franchise just a few months ago. They are known for reviving old game franchises.... So the chances that there will "soon" be a new game in the universe are higher than ever at the moment... 😊

What emulater are you using??? I would KILL for my PS1 gameplay to look like that! I'm using RetroArch atm. There's no way you are using the actual hardware.

Good question, I think you can keep the spear throughout the game but you can't take it to some areas.You often have to leave it behind and pick it up again later.

If Raziel refrained from preying on humans, villagers would "see him as a savior, an avenging angel, and worship him" Only the first vampire hunter attacks, if you spare him (and all the other humans) the humans do not see Raziel as a threat.
@@Katanalein Cool, there’s a few things I wasn’t aware of when I played it first time round, like how you can shift into the spectral realm with Dumah before resurrecting him.
Then I guess he would just become a vampire? 🤔 Since Zephon probably lacks the characteristics that the spider had that bit PP to turn him into S-M... ☺️
I think many new games like demon souls .. dark souls any souls game and lords of the fallen take the idea from soul reaver and blood omen .. legacy of kain is amazing all its games
That's true of course, but apart from that I don't take any damage. And after I get the Soul Reaver, the physical realm is no longer a problem 😉 . So it's a "no hit" run until I get the Soul Reaver and a "no damage" run after that. I chose "no damage" for searchability reasons.
14hrs in barely halfway this game is so frustrating and annoying.. getting older and replaying old games is making me realize how awful these games really were.

I've never seen this game look so good! The graphics are old yet displayed incredibly clear.
I had this on Dreamcast. I think it took me a lot longer than four and a half hours to finish. The voice acting is some of the finest in gaming.

Kain's empire did have a lot of political infighting, and it was said that Raziel's brothers envied him and his position

The game is really hard if you don't know where to go and didn't remember every corner of the map 😂 When I first played through the game I was using a guide from a printed PlayStation magazine 😁 Never would have finished it without...
@@Katanalein Yea, this game is 'point and click' obscure at times, I used a guide to hint where I was supposed to go and what to do to keep the story progressing at a decent pace.
I'm playing with the Wrace mod that modernizes a game and a in-game map and even then I got stuck from time to time.
The coolest part of this game I realized just today playing the spider part is the most hardest part of the game, also the music sewers that you open if you do it right after the boss there a 3 more music sewer, open them. cutscene comes and u kill all spider monsters.they don't come. back

I know that the title of this game sais "no damage" but this game is quite difficult, I know I played it myself. You played the game better than i ever could.
You don't have to be as crazy as me and play through it without getting hit, the main thing is that you had fun with this great game :)

The rest is done in post processing of the video (custom filter, neural network/deep learning upscaler).
Quality was always important to me, I want it to look like the game is being played on local hardware and not just like a heavily compressed TH-cam video. 😂

@@chalismaximus1 Most of the time I use NNEDI3 in combination with some filters.
In my opinion, NNEDI3 has the advantage that it usually does not disimprove the image. Topaz Videolabs is also good, but often looks unnatural after upscaling.
@@Katanalein Ohhh right. I've only just realised why you're upscaling. Because you're not playing or recording in native 4K. I once tried to do just that and the TH-cam compression fills it with blobby artifacts, but your videos some how manage to avoid this.
I assumed the artifacts were from a bitrate compression done by TH-cam. I don't understand how you're avoiding that problem. My 4K source files are visually perfect, then TH-cam turns them into mud.

The biggest threat to a no damage run in this game imo is 2 things zephons spider minions and if you get caught up in the water with the shark minions of rahab without a plan

Make no mistake, I love Medievil too, I've just always felt that if allowed to be remade, the Legacy of Kain games would have the same, if not better magic than it did before
@@sirdogith3783 😂 Oh I love the Medievil games but I always felt that Legacy of Kain (and others) was the bigger franchise and Medievil was never particularly successful. (never looked up the actual sales, it's just my feeling) That's why I've always been very surprised that Medievil is playable on every PlayStation and there was even a great remake in 2019 (plays imo like the original only with perfect camera controls, all audio dialogues were also taken over). I also made a 100% walkthrough for all four Medievil games. But there were certainly many games on the PlayStation 1 that were more successful and didn't get such special treatment. Hence my assumption that someone at Sony is particularly fond of this franchise 😉
Legacy of Kain would definitely have deserved the same treatment and as I said, there are rumours...

The remaster also looks very comic-like, no longer as realistic, dark and depressing as the original.
Fortunately, you can still switch back and forth between the graphic styles, but then probably also with the poorer character models. 😒
Don't get me wrong, it's great that the franchise hasn't been completely forgotten but it deserved a lot more love imo.

I played this game the last few days. And I won't lie. I was confused as hell. I never knew where to go. I liked the game. But I found it really hard to navigate.
When I first played the game in the 90s I was lucky there where guide for this game in a printed magazine I was subscribed to 😁
Elder God will tell you where to go and if that won't help you can visit Ariel... Although their navigation is kinda cryptic 😎

I was using the Flycast Plugin from Retroarch. Didn't change much from the standard settings beside rendering resolution.

The Empracer Group acquired the rights to the franchise just a few months ago. They are known for reviving old game franchises.... So the chances that there will "soon" be a new game in the universe are higher than ever at the moment... 😊

What emulater are you using??? I would KILL for my PS1 gameplay to look like that! I'm using RetroArch atm. There's no way you are using the actual hardware.
I played the Dreamcast version with HD Texture pack and Widescreen cheat in the Flycast plugin of RetroArch.

Can you use the same spear throughout the entire game? I tried to do that but there came a point where I had to abandoned it.
Good question, I think you can keep the spear throughout the game but you can't take it to some areas.You often have to leave it behind and pick it up again later.
@@Katanalein There was a couple times i had to shift back into the spectral realm to get through a gate.
@@guitargod259 That's what I mean, you can't take it everywhere but you can put it somewhere where you can come back to it later. Of course, that would mean a lot of backtracking.

Only the first vampire hunter attacks, if you spare him (and all the other humans) the humans do not see Raziel as a threat.

I havn't had the time to record a walkthrough yet.
You did this with no damage but yet your health drains whenever you're in the material world so that kind of defeats the purpose of a no damage run.
That's true of course, but apart from that I don't take any damage. And after I get the Soul Reaver, the physical realm is no longer a problem 😉 .
So it's a "no hit" run until I get the Soul Reaver and a "no damage" run after that. I chose "no damage" for searchability reasons.
