actually i don't think it was a sneer. I would say it was a goofy smile instead to show his embarrassment while he couldn't grasp what the coach has taught. ZJK is arrogant for sure, but by no means at expense of his career while the official has the authority to control everything. His display of arrogance against coach might make him lose everything he has.
Asians never laugh at somebody and they smile in different situations.

actually what I said is the situation in China, not necessarily applicable in all asian nations.
This is crazy! Three Coaches standing in front of Zhang Jike, giving him advices, trying to improve his near to perfect technique at a single detailed movement (topspin on half long serve). With these manpower focusing on this little detail I see no chances for any other Country tryining to beat the chinese at the Olympics! ... Also wishing I got such kind of oportunities in the training :O
The old man in blue y-shirt is the former Chinese team coach. But what he taught ZJK contradicted with what Liu had taught. He had very little idea what current technique is like....

+klaupe not to support the other friend, but I don't wanna say it applies to every Asians but if u have been in the Asian countries like nepal, china, etc , u will find big differences in their smiles for many reasons. but they usually don't laugh at others. Specially national players are very humble.

To me the whole point of this is making Jike use more often his forehand for receiving and do not relay too much on his awesome backhand. When you try to receive with your backhand at the right side of the table, you end up misplaced at the table exposing the left side of your table. Since he is not used to receive that much with the forehand, couches are going back to basics, refreshing him the proper way to get ready for either short and long services. This is why Ma Long is more rounded than Jike, just because he sticks to the basics making his game more comfortable and relax. Just saying!!

I am not up to such a high level of Ping Pong. I just try to figure out some general principle of action failure. To pull (half top spin, half impact,) a down spin ball, the following must all be right: For the coming ball, judge correctly its height, amount of down spin and incoming speed. Then pull the ball according to those characteristics, by adjusting the angle of the racket to the table, the lift up direction and speed. Theoretically , the player can send the ball back, to almost any position of the further half of the table.
Of course it is not easy. It needs a lot of practice. One simple principle to remember is that: If the ball miss the table, then adjust your hitting accordingly in the next ball so that it hit. In the example shown in the video, Jike pulled the ball a few time and the ball always landed too far and missing the table, then there are 2 ways to make it hit: 1. Hit the ball with much less force, then it will land but will be a barbecue ball to your opponent! 2. Adjust the angle of the racket a bit more parallel to the table top, so that it land shorter. Try triming all three parameters: Angle of racket, angle of swing and hitting force so that the ball is fast, and landed correctly. Fix the experimental good posture and then drill ten thousand time. Then the technique is yours. I am too much a beginner to do that. Jike will take it easy!

this are mostly half long services (but sometimes short and sometimes long too), the question is, should you everytime think the service goes long and then when it is short push short or should you think the service goes short and when it goes slightly long attack it. i think they train to anticipate the length of the half long service. but i think when you want to loop everything you loose time to step foreward to push the short service short and low, this means think the service goes short and when not attack as hard you can :)
pro's 99.99 % of the time are ready for a bast ball , serve included. thats why you dont see so many long fast serves in top competition . you always anticipate a fast serve, if its short its slow so you have time to adjust and recover of course there is always guessing. ZJK will probably face koki niwa or chen chien an so they are preparing him for this occasion thats why they use shang kun a lefthander for his training mate.
Since they have tricky half long serve exploiting the wide angles that a lefthander creates im guessing you are guessing correctly ! :P
but shang kun seems not nearly strong enough for ZJK according to the first few minutes of the video
It does not matter the whole point is to practice and simulate game against a lefthander and practice the tactics involved. in another video XX gave advice to ZJK on what to expect from chen chien an and koki niwa. Shang kun may not be a top dog in CNT but has great service to do the job for ZJK. CNT are paying attention to every little detail , sick stuff

Gabriel Blub well TT tactics are pretty simple, the chinese against ovtcharov force him to go inside the short FH where his receive is bad and then either attack or stay short untill an opportunity appears or even varying with long pushes to force him away from the table and then block or countertopspin. dima can counter even a fit ZJK in a BH vs BH rally, but if you check dima vs the chinese, the try not to let dima attack and they win the match most likely. you are right though dima has good chances to beat even a healthy and fit ZJK, but he is not so stable when the game doesnt go as he plans

What are liu guliyong and the guy in blue shirt trying to tell ZJK? Could anyone lip read their conversation? anyone who understands Chinese? What are their suggestions actually? I believe they are trying to tell him that generate speed and spin from wrist and elbow instead of full swing of hand from shoulder. It would take less time so opponent would get less time and also you can contact ball much earlier than full hand swing shot. Is it correct?
In my opinion, the blade Viscaria which Zjk use where paired with Tenergy or any other offensive heavy rubber is very fast and powerful so for at the table looping it is kinda hard to control, the ball can often goes long over the table. I used to use the same Blade with two tenergy rubber forehand and backhand and I feel yes sometimes it is fast but not so good to loop at the table but it is very good away fom the table loop. Now I play with much all round / offensive - blade which is much slower than Viscaria using much lighter rubber with good control, and I found out that looping at the table or away from the table is more easier, only the downside is it is not so fast and powerful, but what I need is more controllable play and accurate shots (y)

Chinese players genetally use sensor rubbers on their forehand, noy the tensor ones. Jhang Zike uses Hurricane(blue sponge) on his forehand.

Hưng Nguyễn Former champion doesn't mean everything, we have all seen Jike's bad condition over this two years. I even thought ZJK got the gold medal because of Ma Long's absence.
same thing appllies to ma long. ma long also won the wttc because zjk was not there. so its not a valid statement eitherways. a winner is a winner and XX does not even have a wttc final in 3 attempts (in fact he only has a bronze medal). only won a world cup struggling against samsonov and ovtcharov. So in terms of delivering results ma long and zhang jike are still the best, pro tours dont matter for china

I know no chinese but seems they are trying to get Ji Ke to use his forehand on half long serves rather than rely on BH flip. Maybe too late for big O, I dunno, but this is a weakness in his game to be certain!

why does he look like his forehand mid-length receive is so weak? almost weak like an amateur.
His forehand is ranked top 3 in Chinese table-tennis. It doesn't look like he adds a lot of force, but it does. And he's known for the incredible spin so that the ball bounces very very quickly after landing the opponent's table.

Geoffrey Cheng That's the most difficult reserve-receive, being half long and half short. It is short enough to not allow you to create a full body motion, and long enough that forces you to hesitate what to do. These serves are the best in games. But when under pressure, athletes tend to make it too long and thus allow opponents to exploit. As a result, most serves are kept short.
+Vincent Theo I know that, but I think xu xin, fzd, and ma long all receive those much better. they train everyday none of the serve categories are supposed to give them trouble like they did zjk here
Geoffrey Cheng Agree. So I think this wasn't a typical day for ZJK. If you noticed, he got yelled by coaches after missing 2 attempts... Then he had to do whatever the coaches advised him to do, which were actually two different things... The first coach was LGL, and the second was the coach that coached LGL haha

i dunno what, but something is not right there. I think are those people are really makeing the training a fail, even though they are trying to help. I definetly dont like the way people treat younger people at everything. The only i think i liked in video was ZJK and his sparring (impressive good).

I think maybe if the rest of the worlds professional players were as critical of themselves as the Chinese, there wouldn't be such a gap.
Chinese are having perfect condition for being good in TT. First they have good body portion. Not too tall or too short. Just like Usain Bolt. Furthermore it's their ability to concentrate much better than Europeans. As you can see genetic is important in TT like in sprinting
