the DigQuad RGB-LED controller can now run up to 4 outputs with WLED. - DIY Holiday LEDs

  • WLED (the greatest LED control software of all time!) is now able to run 4 different outputs. That means with one controller (the DigQuad in this case), you can have 4 separate strings of LEDs doing different things at the same time! So with one controller you could have DIY Holiday LEDs covering your whole roof plus a couple of props.

    Awesome work, you guys rock !
    Just finished assembling a couple of quads today with this multi channel feature in the back of my mind. Now available sooner then expected. Let's play around and later get this up and running for Christmas.

    Y’all have been a huge help! Any chance we can get a video walking us newbs how to compile the code to get more LEDs per channel? I need no more than 500 per channel. Great videos! Keep them up!

    So now I have this and added 3 separate lights. It's all working great. Since there is no official release I can't however swith them on and off individually in home assistant. That would be sweet.

    Just ordered my diguno. I kind of collect controllers and as a bonus this one actually looks worth the money. Amd I thought it was DIGuno not DIJuno.

      I think it should be 301 to 330, since the first 300 go to the first sequence.

      In his web site go to products then pcb boards then to DigQuad analog or digital. He has the links to the suppliers to all the parts, ex: amazon, aliexpress and so fourth. Just place all my orders today for 10 boards.

    Thanks for this great video fellas. What if I have 1642 LEDs? In LED configurations, I can't set it to more than 1200. WS 2812B strips in various lengths at 60/meter.

    One giant leap for led-kind! Did this wled update become primary or still beta? Would it be possible to get a digquad that can run on WiFi and eth? Does digquad need WiFi for normal operations to work? What would you guys estimate the digquad could handle for led quantity? What would you guys estimate the total current demand would need to be rated for with the led quantity? What would the digquad max input current rating be?

    A small Christmas project lead me to think I could mix RGB with GRB on the QuadLED and that doesn't appear to be true. Will a future version of code allow a segment to be configured separately from the other segments?

  • @otisrhw

    So, I segmented one string of 300 lights and had different effects on each segment (nodemcu/wled). So, my 1st question is; why do I need 4 channels? 2nd question would it be possible to make a half mega tree or matrix, with the dig-quad?

  • @klreeve123

    Can one strip of LEDs be set up with multiple Segments? Lets say I have 150 LEDs on one strip connected to pin 1. Can the first 50 be 1 segment, the next 50 another segment, and the last 50 be the 3rd segment?

    I just received my DigQuad and flashed it with this binary file, hooked some ws2811 lights and was able to run the 1st channel. I noticed that the led setup firmware is hardcoded for 5v, does it matter? will it work for ws2811s (12v)?

    WLED and XLIGHTS. anybody know how to drive a matric of 864 leds. I have it working through WLED on an esp32 with logic level shifter. XLIGHTS is making the display on the matrix but on the last 144 leds the flash random colours. So if i have an image showing even a moving image the top 144 led flash the wrong colours

    I just received my DIG QUAD PCBs from one of the two Chinese firms (can’t recall which!) Still need to order parts but already have most of them. Separate question though: I understand that the multiple output is not supported in WLED core. Is the “segment” feature in core? If so, is it basically for segmenting a single output strip into virtual multiple strips?

      bennyfizzle thanks. Looks like I will be able to use it for my shelving project where I have daisy chained strips together into individual squares of shelving. Do you know the max number of possible segments?

    Can you run an effect which seamlessly runs across all channels? Eg: an LED chase effect that goes off the end of one strip and continues on the next strip?

      Did you get this question answered? When the guys first announced this quad, and it’s ability to control 4 data lines individually, I bought 4 quads to use for the 12 windows around my house so that I could control effects of individual windows. But like you, I was uncertain about the continuation from 1 window (data out) to the next window (data out). Prior to getting my 4 Quads, I ran 6 strips of 5v WS2812b 30/m around 3 windows and 1 door and plugged into DIG-UNO (1 data output). In wled settings (LED PREFERENCES). Set the number of LEDS to 700. I then set up my segments to reflect how many LEDs in each window and door. (Ex Segment ZERO- 0-179, Segment ONE- 210-377, Segment 3, etc...). With all windows lined and 1 door lined with LEDs, I was able to control each segment individually, or all in sync, or as you called it, “chased” from one window to the next!! Aside from voltage drop, I did not see any issues with data.

    • @chuckparsons1815
      @chuckparsons1815 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would like to add that I likely used less that the 700 LEDs I mentioned considering the unused LEDs in between each window and door. I was advised by Quindor to limit your led count to around 500-600. I would guess (without counting LEDs that were actually being used during my test) that I was around the 600 count.
      Now, to answer your question using a QUAD....I don’t know how you would do it??????

    • @JulieanGalak
      @JulieanGalak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it can be done. Just don't set up segments the way they describe, and it'll treat all of the strips as one long strip. You do need to compile your own version for this, as you have to set the number of LEDs in each strip. The pre-compiled version won't work unless you happen to have exactly the same number of LEDS as they list.

    Can someone help me out. Starting a project with 20 / 5m / 30/M /WS2812B Eco strips for permanent holiday lighting. To my calculations that comes to 3000 LEDs or 9000 if you separate RGB. What controller do I need to run this many LEDs, power supply requirements (Starting with a 5v 60 amp), I know I will need to inject power every 5m or so. Thanks for the help.

    • @starmc26
      @starmc26 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't count 1 led as 3 rgb's... Its just 1 addressable led. A single led takes 60 ma power max brightness on average. Multiply .06 x the number of leds in your setup for a ballpark figure on the psu you'll need.
