open pour skill level = master expert . amazing how easy you make it look
Beginners luck! LOL
Lureworks Motor Oil was my favorite. I also liked the Adam Special at the end. Thanks for comparing and contrasting these for us. I'm just starting to get into soft baits so this is good.
My pleasure man, glad it was helpful!!
Appreciate the video! I like the LW best, because I like the amber tones more than the green!
Great choice! 👍👍
I really liked the lureworks the best. Will definitely try the M-F as well. Great video. The content, editing, and tunes are top notch.
Thx man, glad you enjoyed it! The LW is absolutely killer, yup!
Great video. Lure works for sure. Just started making my own baits. So love learning
Love the Lureworks version too! Glad you enjoyed it!
Gotta say I like the SDG cocktail the best. Would love to see more comparisons in this format.
Thanks man! The combo was, indeed, a winner! Glad you enjoyed the content!
Great comparison video, Adam. I know I'm playing catch up since I only recently found your channel, however like you said, I can see a use for all of them at one point or another, but I like the Lureworks best followed by the ebay one. I tend to lean towards more natural tones and colors.
Right there with ya!
G'day Adam great video subject mate i thoroughly enjoyed it
Awesome, glad to hear it Brian!
Master class, excellent work. I kept thinking combo and you did it. My favorite is the lure works followed by the combo.
Thanks man! Glad we were on the same page with the combo approach!
Sub'd. Great video....I was looking for a comparison recently and you did exactly what I needed. I'm still relatively new to bait making, but I really enjoy it and look forward to more videos.
Sweet man, thanks Jay! Glad the video was a help to you!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft Any chance of tossing in the DoP Synthetic version?
I made some homemade trailer molds from silicone. After seeing your hand pour I may revisit those! Really cool video regarding the color!
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed the content. Crack out those molds my friend!!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft For trailers do you use a harder plastic?
@@ps7462 for me, no, but I know a lot of guys do. I tend to like my trailers to float/slide/move easier so I deal with the lack of durability and just make more, LOL! I do use it some for large swimbaits… 5”+, especially the extra large stuff… 7-8” etc.
New subscriber, I really enjoyed this video. I'm going to order some of these Motor Oil colorants, I really like it in a Craw.
Cool stuff for sure, glad you liked it!!
Excellent video!! I’ve got to go with combo with the chartreuse flake followed by Lure Works!! Awesome video Adam, thanks for sharing!!
Great choices James! If I had it to do over again I’d reduce to 1/16 on the flake as it was pretty strong even at just 1/8 over a cup and a half. Still pretty sweet though!
Nice video! I am impressed by your steady hand pouring, your coffee may not be as strong as mine. This type of video is very useful since it helps to decide the best colors without having to spend a fortune. Keep up the great work sir.
I do drink 1/2 caf, LOL! The open pours are all new to me, so I’ll be putting in some practice time for sure… most likely with the finesse worm since… I figure if I can pour those thin little dudes well, the wider spaces will seem like a cake walk! Glad you liked the video as well Clint! I have another one planned (actually… a whole series, potentially) focused on color demos that I’m hoping will be a great resource for other bait makers. Be on the lookout for an upcoming video where I pitch the idea and ask for feedback (whether guys like yourself feel it would be worthwhile). Love to hear your thoughts! Thx again man!
I’m with you Adam, I liked all four. But the the lureworks looked to be the best. Thanks for comparing them together! It’s gives you a better idea what each colors look like. Thanks for sharing!
Always a pleasure Bryan, glad you enjoyed it!
I think my favorite was as you said the OG. I liked the MF version with the stronger green. Now with everything mixed together that made a wild effect and looked great. This is a cool idea to show different company’s take on the same color.
Great choice my friend! The combo was pretty cool! Thanks for the feedback!
Hey Adam! I don't know if you remember me, but it's Travis, Cynthia's brother and Chris's brother in law. I went to youth group when you used to help them out. I was very surprised when Chris told me today that you were making lures and the you had a youtube channel. I'm definitely thinking about buys some of those Swingheads from you. I mostly fish for smallmouth, but I'm wanting to go largemouth now after I watched the video on the Swingheads! They look awesome
Hey Travis, good to hear from you man! If you continue to watch the channel content you’ll see plenty of Maple, LOL! I run into Chris and Cynthia walking around the lake all the time. Those Swingheads are awesome - definite fish catchers! I made them in 7/16-1/2, 1/4, and a micro version at 1/8 (talk about a smallmouth destroyer!). I think there’s a 3-pack on the site now (link is in the video description) as well as a couple trailer options. For the full size, the 4.25 H-Craw or the 702 craw was be perfect! Take a look at the site, lemme know if you have any questions! Thx again man!
I really like this type of video. Dead on Plastics also has a bunch of new color shift flakes you should try.
Thanks Gary! I love a good comparison video as well, very satisfying!
I really like the fourth test with Lureworks color. The 5” worm and crawfish were great!
Glad you enjoyed the video Marty!
Agreed, Lureworks! Great video man!
Thanks man! Truly appreciated!
Good morning , as I was watching the video I was wondering if the ebay and lurecraft were mixed together if they would come out like the changeables. But great job on the video I like how you used different baits to show the different effects the colorant has to each bait.
Thanks James! And great question about the LC and eBay combo! Not sure you'd get the "shiftiness" but I get the color itself would be pretty awesome!
Just came across your channel a bit ago. Really enjoy it. Just watched this episode on the Different Motor Oils. I think the LureWorks with like One Drop of the MF would be ideal. Just my opinion. Enjoying your content 🍻
Glad you found me Scott! A drop of black would indeed be killer!
The lureworks looks killer! I can’t wait to play with that!
My favorite version by far!
I like the lure works the best also but the color shift on the craw with the first one was really cool. The segments on the craw really popped.
Yes indeed! If you’re after a 180 degree change in color… completely one to completely another… MF all the way. It’s a neat color to play with!
Awesome informative video.🤙
Appreciate that Darrell! 👊👊
Morning Adam! Great video content… always like comparison stuff and what a great way to use those new open pours u have. As far as colorant (from a buyer/user, not maker angle)… I honestly was less than impressed with all the single colors. By themselves, I just think there is better looking colors in the same hues available. Then… as usual, ur creative genius kicks in and ur combo creation easily beats them all hands down!! Especially dig the addition of the chartreuse flake… it really sets off the greens in the baits… awesome! Again, great video man!
Thanks man!! Glad you enjoyed it - and the combo is killer! I’d go lighter on the chartreuse flake next time… that stuff is super strong, but the concept… 100%! As always, much appreciated!! 👊👊
Great video Adam,Thanks for sharing I like MF the best. Lure works comes in second. But the mixture of all four is not to shabby. Wonder how they would look minus the large black flakes but large chartreuse and small black flakes.
The skies the limit for sure! I think that mix of flake could be quite tasty indeed!
Bought my PB lMB back when I was 13 ish on that color from the Culprit company. 3.3oz at the time it was a monster. 🤙🤙
The LW version is one of the best I've seen - so natural, and killer with some red flake!
Hello Adam, great videos. Thank you for good content. I'm just getting into making my own soft plastics. I was wondering if any of those colorants are UV reactive? (do they glow under a black light?) And also do you have any experience adding any highlight powder to those motor oil colors?...
Hey Cody, thanks for the question! I didn't test them under a blacklight so I can't say - I'm sorry. I can say they are "marketed" as UV Glow colorants while others are, so I'm assuming they are intended for that purpose. I also haven't added highlight to any, but have considered it... in particular, some green highlight with the LW version maaaaaay give you a hint more green without going overboard with the new MF formula (far too green... almost aqua or teal... for my liking). I guess that's the joy of baitmaking, you can experiment and see! Some of my best colors were happy accidents, LOL!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft
Thank you! Today's video was a good one as well.
@@codykaufman5855 thx man!!
I prefer the Lure works MO, it’s not a color I use a lot though, when I do it’s for Barred surf perch.
I love these type of videos btw.
I with you on not thinking the Lure craft is very “Motor Oil” but it is a lovely color. I like it enough to want to order one.
The internet brand (I’ve used those before) is just amber, didn’t really do anything for me.
The MF is fantastic but as I said the LW is my go to.
This was a fun video, thanks for doing this, I really enjoyed it.
Awesome man! Love the feedback and I’m right there with you! Much appreciation!
I did see someone saying that using a Transparent Color, say like a Transparent Orange or Amber, like Flourescent, it'll bring out the amber/brown colorchange without taking away too much from the gree/aqua.
Definitely a great option!
i like the lure works best i think. like the suttle change
I concur Steve, thanks for the feedback! 👍👍
You made a good money saving decision. The Golden grub and Do it are exactly the same.
No kidding? Glad I dodged a bullet then!
Order made , thanks Adam
Ah yes, I see it! Thx again Rich, she'll be in the mail tomorrow! 👍
You are killing me dude! 😄 🤣 😂 I've always used MF motor oil but I do have to say the Lureworks looks great too
LOL, I do my part! If you've been using MF for a while, I bet your version is closer to LW than what I have. The new formula seems a lot more green!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft so I have an old bottle and when I get home I should have a new bottle... I am interested to see the difference between the 2
@@michaeljasensky5438 ditto!
Lureworks is the closest to og motoroil. My preference. One rule I have with motoroil is no flake. The color shift does the work.
Thanks for this very interesting
It is a tasty color, especially that LW version!
Glad I saw this before ordering the MF, not a fan. That Ebay color will soon be half of a new cricket laminate. Thanks for the comparison vid.
My pleasure Harold! Glad it was helpful!
Wish I had the spare cash. Definitely would pick up some of those. Especially with the chartreuse
MO/Chartreuse is a classic combo!
@@SDGCustomLurecraft yessir! I do well on a motor oil with chartreuse tail bubble tail, speed worm, or beaver ( that’s an interesting one I got thru a friend) .
But motor oil on just about any combo I would throw. Just a good all around color… except perhaps in dirty ,dingy water .
@@adwhite804 yup, it shines in clear to lightly stained so the light can pass through and do its magic!
I actually kind of prefer all of them together as far as motor oil color. All would have a place in the tackle box.
Yup, can't go wrong with that approach either!
I always liked the color shift of the MF. The Do-it is was very “orange” in my experience. I gave up on making plastics for the most part though.
Thanks man! From the pics on the DI website, it looked pretty orange, so I probably “represented” it ok through the eBay find. Appreciate the feedback!
Does LureWorks offer more color changing colorants?
They do indeed! They don’t list them as such, but they have a number of colors that shift!
@@SDGCustomLurecraftwhat would the names of the color shift be?
Most of the “Dyes” have some colorshift in them, but others that come to mind are Zombie Blood and Cerise (not sure if they considered dyes or not).
I like the Lure Works color the most .
I share your opinion, appreciate the feedback!
lure works is the old school color of motor oil that looks like what we fished with when i was a kid
Its a good one!
Motor oil has always been one of my favorites… old days and now
It’s hard to beat, no doubt!
I actually still have that mount on my garage wall close to 30 years later
Nice! Good memories every time you see it, I'm sure!
That's a hard one. I think the MF is maybe a little better but it's really close honestly for me. I have the Do-it one also and it's more of the amber color but adding in a tiny tiny bit of green high light gives it a green look which turns out a little better.
Good insight, thx! From what I saw (and have since heard from others) the Do-It brand, that sounds accurate. Good call on the green highlight! I often wondered why people leaned toward chartreuse colorant vs green highlight. Seems like the later would produce a better changeable affect. Thx again for the input!
Lure works my personal favorite
Mine too! Thx for watching!
Wonder if two middle colors Would.look like combined
Only one way to find out!
Lure works and mf motor oil deffently looked like the best colour shift. Mf being more on the green side and lure works being more orange. Both seemed to shift nicely from the original base colour.
You need to mix a few drops of each together in a 2 tone with monkey milk belly would be sweet. Throw in some flake and you have a winner.
Sounds like it would be sweet!
I like the Lureworks.
The MF the green shade is hideous
I would try the Ebay stuff with a lil green hilite powder.
Yup, I dig the LW the best as well, killer color!
The lure craft clean motor oil is amber and does not color shift. Their ebert color shift is like the original mf formula motor oil that has more of the red tint in the amber.
Good to know, thanks!!
I have the original MF never liked it ,to green . The lure works looks better to me . A combination of mostly lure works + MF might be best .
Thanks for the input Jim, good insight. I've wondered that too... maybe a 80/20 mix?? I also wonder what LW + a bit of Chartreuse colorant would look like... maybe "deepen" the green a touch without going aaaaaallll the way to the MF version. So many possibilities!
I would use MF without using so many drops.
👍👍 sounds good!
STP. Lol
You got me on this one (??), LOL!
