To me, a sith force spirit is always bound to an object, place, or person... and is a state of agony, where tehy are rejecting death by tethering themselves to the material world. A sith spirit is a rejection of death, and has little power... a jedi spirit is an acceptance of death, and of boundless power (but the wisdom to not use it)

I agree with you that sith being ghosts feels strange. I first encountered it in KOTOR and it felt very off to me.
