    I had no idea! I pull my kale plants every fall. I still think I will plant yearly, as I only enjoy baby kale. Love your videos!!

      That's exactly what I do Lisa. I much prefer kale when its young. Plus it grows relatively fast, so I don't mind replanting it. I do try to make it last for part of the winter though. Nice to get fresh greens from the garden in December! 🙂

  • @christine3794
    @christine3794 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Yes indeed! 3-4 years growing and seeded twice for me! But leave them through winter as the young leaves I pick & eat or put in soups, etc.👍🏻😃!
    This Spring I let them go to seed and the pods are Hugh!

      So awesome Christine! I always wanted to save Kale seeds but they are self-incompatible.....so with all my varieties, I'd be getting almost exclusively hybrids!

    My russian kale survived a foot of snow and came out tasting even sweeter. Then it flowered and is attracting pollinators. I understand you can eat the flowers too but have not tried it yet. I like seeing the bright yellow in our lingering "blah" weather.

      Right on Gordon, exactly the same here. Once the flowers hit, I don't cut the plants down, but I definitely stop eating from that plant. Cheers!

    Last year I had an old pack of seeds and tossed it into a flower bed. It came up beautifully and I harvested so much. I dehydrated alot of the plants and use it like parsley and in pasta sauces. It grew well into November 2021 here in the upper midwest.

    Wonderful video on kale growing. I will definitely try it this time.
    Also, I bought two Butterhead lettuces from the store and they came with their root bundles. Imagine my delight?😁 put them both in a pot after using the outer leaves for the salad. Now they are happily growing in the pot and I slice off the amount of leaves I need fresh from my patio garden. Yay to home gardening 🪴 gardening 👩‍🌾

    My kale over wintered and is now bolting. I live near Boise Idaho and it has not been hot. I just pinched it off. Guess I will let it go to seed and save the seed.

    Is there a Kale variety that is closer to "lettuce tender"? Caveat -- the only Kale I'm familiar with is the rigid/tough stuff they use as a visual garnish to some other edible.

    • @shanewest7731
      @shanewest7731 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on what you're looking for. Some are floral others have a sweeter taste than others. I personally prefer Chinense types like Habanero or Scotch Bonnet. The Baccatum varieties have some very interesting tastes like the Aji Mango or Bishop's Crown.
      If you don't want a load of heat but a great taste try the Biquinho Amarelo, a great pepper. Sorry if this is a bit long, hope it helps.

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms

    I live in Calgary. Do you know any kale varieties or other annual veggies that can survive the whole year outside? Maybe I can plant them in fall or late summer and harvest them next spring. We can use frost blankets but aren't planning to get things like cold frames.

    I’m hoping you can help with this since you were the one advertising trying to get new people to go on the Facebook site. I signed up six or seven days ago and still cannot leave a comment as the admin does not review the site and keeps a lot of people pending. You will not build up your following if this is not corrected. I do enjoy your videos and I was hoping to enjoy helping new gardeners. Thankyou.

    Jeff help!!!!! I have been growing my tomatoes since February. It's been too cold to plant, I started hardening off today, but they are all falling over, some of the stems are pinching off. Afraid before they harden off they will die what can I do

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That seems like damping off more than anything......I would replant them, and bury them DEEP...right up to the first set of true leaves.

    • @AJWGBFX
      @AJWGBFX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because of our colder than normal spring we've had more heating on in the house than normal, so many of many tomato starts got too big and were falling over. I took the tops off, then planted the side shoots (suckers) - these often make better plants than the originals

    • @timothyshanley1132

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms I have to finish hardening off first, don't have pots large enough to do that indoors. Are at least a foot tall
