Thanks for sharing your modifications. I have a similar EW and it could use some help like that.

Hi Rick just stumbled on your link!! Great video I bought a HF wheel awhile back because of the low price! Haven't used it yet but a time will come when I do so I may have to address the issue also!!! Thanks for the heads up on that !!!! Oh don't pay any attention to those other whining sheet heads !!!! Don.

    Great video!
I have the same Princess auto wheel and a 18" bead roller with plans to do some reinforcing for both. I'm thinking of combining the two back to back on my metal bashing stand which I set up on wheels. I think you may have the same stand actually, saw some blue steel and dies in the background of one of your shots which looked like it. The PA tools may be weak from the factory but I'm not inclined to pay big dollars for the proper gear and I don't think I could justify the storage space.

Hey, where about's in Canada are you located? I've got a bead roller from KMS tools that I have reinforced. If you are interested in it I'll post a short video to show you what I did.

@@Rickd-jh7iw I'm in Newfoundland. Unless you're local the shipping cost would probably be higher than the tool is brand new lol.

on your large eng. wheel you can put a shim under the shaft on one side of a flat wheel to work on edge

22:11 the issue here is you only solved for one dimension and part of a second dimension, neglecting the torsional loads.

Hi Rick, i was thinking of picking up the same English wheel from Busy Bee in New West and the KMS or Princess Auto bead roller you mentioned in the comments below. Could you post a video of how you reinforced your inexpensive bead roller? I know there are other videos on TH-cam but if you ran stress modeling on a cheap English wheel then I'd like to see what you did for the bead roller
    thx

Nice work but I can't stop thinking that filling the tubes with concrete would work well. What do you think?

Might work. I just happened to pull the wheel out today to smooth out some walnuts on an aluminum tail piece that was too tight to get at with the big wheel. It knocked down the worst of the bumps, and because the part is going to get body worked and painted it was good enough.

@Rickd-jh7iw I recently acquired a small wheel. I'm happy with the arrangement of wheels and adjustability buy seems I have to preload the wheels a fair bit to get them working. I wondered before about casting a concrete frame but since I bought this now perhaps filling it would work. I don't really fancy doing the additional bracing.

@@Squintanditsmint The amount of work required to fill the frame with concrete is minimal, so it's probably worth the effort. Threaded rod is cheap, and I'd get some 3/8 or 1/2" rod to act as re-bar as I poured in the concrete.

@@Rickd-jh7iw thats a good idea. Cheers. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm thinking instead of a truss setup..you could double up on the thickness of the frame to keep it from laterally flexing as it is now.

Ya, but at that point you might as well just start from scratch with the frame and just use the wheels. There are some nice bench top wheels out there to copy a design from.

It would have been quicker and easier to use thicker walled steel and remade the original frame work

I would build a new frame maybe with .25 sq tube, that frame is a p.o.s. and still flexes too much.

The machining step made me laugh. Waste of time. Nice design and now work on bottom wheel where most of play is

But not if you really like using your milling machine, and it tends to justify the cost to the wife if you use it once in while 😁
