The fact the mothers were pressuring their daughters to nearly doubling there budget and not even willing to chip in was horrible. It's one thing to give an opinion, and another to say "spend more even though you can't afford it and take care of it later". That's just plain bad financial advice!

@@noniwidjaja3622 Her daughter is no more lost to her than she was for the years she's been living out of home already (in fact if she does have kids soon after the wedding the focus on family will make her closer to her mum than when she's single or partnered with no kids focusing on her partner and her friends). I see her respecting her mother's opinion by working to find a dress very similar to what her mum chose but within her budget. She took her mother's criticism of the first two dresses on board, saw what her mum wanted and chose something very similar in style but at a price she could afford.

I don't know about y'all but my mother would NEVER encourage me to go over budget on ANYTHING, whether it be groceries or wedding dresses.
My mom would would actively be looking in the bargain bin...especially for a wedding dress, lol.

That first group pissed me off. The guy didn't approve of the brides budget but he sure the heck wasn't willing to pitch in to make it happen. When my best friend got engaged she'd been dating about a year, I had been dating my bf for nine years. I sure did feel jealous, as in I wanted that for me but I never ever felt that at the expense of my friends happiness!
My friend and I also have vastly different tastes when it comes to clothing styles but when I went shopping with her for her bridal gown I knew her style. I wasn't looking to put her in a dress I would wear, it wouldn't be her AND I only gave feedback if my friend asked about whether some part of the dress was flattering or whether white or cream looked better etc. (I ended up engaged not long after her wedding - same bf - both of us are still friends and still married to our significant others 18 years on.)

That last “friend” is low key a snake, talking about her body like that. I used to have fake friends like that that were never happy for me and only thought about how jealous they were whenever anything good happened to me, they would even try to talk me out of it or tell me it wasn’t as good as I thought it was. GET RID, the girl deserves better.

I unfortunately had a friend like that who was one of my maid of honors. She was extremely toxic. And a lot of the people in my wedding party couldn’t stand her and they were all warning me too that she was jealous, narcissistic, self absorbed, and loved being the victim, I had to end our friendship a year after the wedding, it was just to much to handle.

Took my Mom with me. Big mistake. After she said a tiara was going to make 5'2" tall me taller than my 6' fiancee, I said Thank You to the consultant, walked out, and shopped for a dress bringing only my best friend with me. Bought the dress--and tiara--of my dreams.You don't need that negativity when bridal gown shopping, and I don't care who that person is, do not bring them along. I get it. Both of my sisters were married before me. I’ve been in the longest relationship between the three of us. I am jealous because of it. But instead of letting jealousy take control, I learned from it. I learned everything that goes into a wedding so I can get ideas and plan ahead/be ready for when the time actually comes. I wore a pretty bridesmaid dress, then an ugly one that was ordered offline. I smiled and remembered “I will not be the bridezilla” because I watched and learned from their engagements. I think you should do the same.

Per 1000 married women, the divorce rate is 16.9% which is down from 22.6 percent in the early 80s. I know there are idiots who say, "2/3rds of all marriages end in divorce..blah blah blah." There was something Randy didn't mention: If you're married but you didn't get the wedding you wanted, don't try to live vicariously through the bride's wedding by trying to project on her what YOU would want to wear. It's her wedding, not yours. If you didn't get the wedding you wanted, too bad. You had your chance; this is hers.

@Sarah Normally, but the mother was so penetrating in trying to get her opinion that even at some point my collar would have burst and I would have mocked her. Right after the wedding, the bridal gown try on is the most exciting day in the bride's life and she has to wear the dress and be happy with her selection. Of course, the mother can express her opinion on the wedding dresses, but it's shitty to ruin the daughter's day just because the mother does not like the selection.
