Hi Geof what a magnificent tribute for poppy day on it's 100th anniversary , I was away on a short holiday, I stopped in a little country town here for the minutes silence at 1100 am, there was a gathering of about 100 people at the war memorial there, a very solemn occassion👏👍 cheers mate Ric

You've renewed a long-dormant memory for me. When I was young, my grandmother always pinned an artificial poppy on my coat (or wrapped its stem around a button]--and said "It's Poppy Day! You must wear this today." My dad was stationed at Thurleigh Air Force Base [outside of Bedford] during WWII. He was a tailgunner on a B-17 bomber. He also reminded me of this day. Your interpretation of "Abide With Me" strikes all the right notes in my mind and soul. Thank you for making this hymn a choice of yours...Love and Gratitude---Yvonne

That hymn took me back to early in 2014 when I was fortunate to visit the graveside of my uncle in Escoublac La Baule WarCemetery in France. It had been a 60 year pilgrimage for me. He along with his bomber crew are all buried together. I shut my eyes and could see his headstone in my mind and the wreath of poppies i placed. Very very special. Thank you Geoff for your interpretation of this beautiful hymn. Take care.
Something we have in common Bryan! Many years ago i took my mother to Sleepy Hillock cemetery in Montrose Scotland, to visit her brothers grave (the uncle i never knew). He served in the R.A.F. during the war. He was a pilot, flying Wellington Bombers and was awarded the D.F.M. After his "tour of duty" he became a flying instructor at R.A.F. Montrose. (Airspeed Oxfords) Unfortunately he was involved in a head-on collision with another aircraft, whilst practising night flying. The trainee pilot managed to get out, but he did not!
