Wow I came across this page today! I JUST “liked, saved, and subscribed” on your other “first year” video and now this video hits my algorithm later the same day. Perfect timing, you’re killin it! Guess it’ll be a year before I progress to this video from the other one, but I’m EXTRA ready to start that journey with a now two-year roadmap of skills to progress through. Awesome, awesome work!
i'm shocked about how advanced i am in less than half a year doing calisthenics. i'm already able to do, for example, high lsit pull ups touching the waist, front lever (like 3 sec), sissy squat, shakers, one arm pull ups (just one each), shoulder flag and some others. i'm now learning some pushing exercises like the handstand
I would recommend candle sticks, knee candle sticks, and full candle sticks along with the dragon flag. Renaissance Periodization did a really good video on it.
This is so helpful and gives a roadmap and direction bro! Thanks it would be awesome if you did this up till like 4-5 years if possible this made me subscribe
The algos sent me here. Tbh, probably from Daniels comments lol. This was such a good video. Great in-depth summary of all the nuances in handbalancing.
Guys, calisthenics paths are not the same for everyone… some people have genetic advantages in some areas and some people naturally train other areas in sports/work/etc. I did my first clean freestanding handstand pushup at 13 years old, and about then could I do a straddle front lever, but I still was unable to do a back lever or a very clean l sit press. Skills come at different times for different people.
That’s true they come at different times mostly in relation to bodyweight and height and then what you’ve trained before naturally. However, if you follow this list you should have the pre requisites 💪🏾🔥
If i'm able to do harder variations like OAPU, Archer, and explosives is there a point in having the basic push up in my routine? or can it be repurposed to warmup and deload exercises
If you’re saying you have mastery over push-ups and they no longer challenge eh you then they can serve as a warmup or something to use as a muscle awareness form correction for harder variations
Is the kip up really a second year skill? I just got into calisthenics and am i complete newbie. i cant even do a L sit, a muscle up, a handstand or even more than 10 pull ups. but surprisingly I can do a kip up.
I’m 26 currently Weightlifted for 4 year prior Solely Calisthenics for 2ish years The last 1 year and half I’ve combined weightlifting and calisthenics. So hybrid style training. I mostly weightlift on my leg days. I don’t bench press very often. Thank you for the support fam 💪🏾🔥
I know each body has different strengths and stuff but in year one you set a 12 reps goal for pistol squats and here is sissy squats with a 6 reps goal, and here am I able to easily do 6 sissy squats but still 0 pistol squats 😟
I have straddle front lever and all these skills in less than a year(10 months) except v sit. These list is not accurate. Even adv tuck planche is achieveable in less than a year. I’m 6ft and 81KG bw tho. So in other words yall can achieve more than all these in a year with discipline and proper routines so don’t hold back:) But the list is good, y’all suppose to get these skills in your second year but you can achieve more:)
You’re assuming the person you are is a one mold. There’s all types of people and they start at all types of different strength levels. I do agree that some people will take slightly longer, shorter, or follow the timeline. It’s pretty accurate for what it is, a guideline. Thank you for the support🔥💪🏾
would you recommend this and the "first year" video to an overweight person? Or would it be better to focus on cutting to become lighter before starting with these?
I would. I’ve seen bigger people do calisthenics. Depending on your height and weight the bar to entry is easier or harder to master your body weight. The joint pressure of your weight and how much your joints can sustain plays a huge factor when we’re building our joint strength. If you’re like me then it’ll generally take you longer to learn skills and have true body awareness. However, it’s definitely possible and can be done. It’s always a good idea to cut weight if you believe yourself to be overweight though. So if you were able to get your diet in check whilst starting on this you’d see some pretty significant improvement.
Yeah my legs usually bump the ground when I’m tired and can’t compress my core enough. It seriously is just a core compression skill. Over time you’ll be able to compress throughout the transition.
I think this is also pretty realistic for a woman. There’s women that are in calisthenics and can do even crazier skills than me. Don’t feel pressured to finish within the year though. It’s a general statement for the masses. If you need to take longer then that’s completely fine. Just think of this as a road map.
Same comment here, the quality is amazing. I watched hundreds of callisthenics videos but nothing comes close to this. Thanks so much. EDIT: By the way, none of the popular channels teach the V-sir which I accidentally saw from a kung-fu practitioner. Again, proof that you know your stuff. 😊
Human flag is similar to lever training. I didn’t forget it. It’s just not usually something I think beginners should focus on training their first 2 years. They should focus on building foundational skills. The human flag will come as a byproduct
