Excellent video Steve. The A$$ phase of these bases is real, I was ready to throw my bases out till I saw how they looked with the final drybrush of white.
Excellent video, thanks ! Personnaly I just painted my base, then used artificial water, waited for it to dry, then brushed a little white, and covered it with another layer of artificial water to give some volume. What's nice about it is that it's shiny so it makes it more "watery", but I supposed some shiny varnish on your base would make the same, and I must say your method looks thicker than mine. Maybe i'll use a mix of the two of them ^^
@@DeathByDragons It's easy to have a "thick" effect with just artificial water, it tends to become naturaly flat so I guess your method is better than mine. I'll have to do some tests ^^
This is brilliant. Thank you for putting this out. I have found that the resin-cast sails are all a bit wonky. I plan to use the toilet paper method with the one exception I am going to use modeling paste instead of spackle.
The only comment I have is that if you use more turquoise colors instead of deep blue you can match the colors on the game mat that comes with the box. Great video!
I took is a step further with my bases and raised the ships off the bases slightly. Never have I seen someone so unnecessarily heavy handed with 1:700 models.
For all the non english speakers. PVA is also known as wood glue. eg in germany we use Ponal Holzleim.
Great vid, keep on doing things like you do.
Thanks for this!
That's *really* effective!
-although I did have a panic when you were flicking that overbrush right next to your excellent painted ships!
I didn’t get where I am today by being careful! (Note: that may be why my life is a shambles)
@@DeathByDragons well you got yourself another subscriber. Happy new year mate.
@@meetsintaverns5330 woohoo!
Great tutorial, Thanks.
Also, awesome to see someone else with a takeaway lid palette.
It's the only way to live!
Splendid, thanks Steve. Just the thing to watch while I persuade my self to buy the new Taster Set.
Looks great. Better than water effects imo

Right?!? The entire time I first did it I was like, “GARBAGE! This is GARBage! Rubbish! Terrible! ... oh wait they look good”
@@DeathByDragons I even asked my wife her opinion because I was worried. Her response: "it's not very good". Thanks for the support... 😂
@@richardluke2674 That would be enough for me to bin the whole thing!
Great, simple technique. Shall be borrowing this for my ships. Thanks for sharing.
Good luck with it!
That's brilliant! Will be basing up my Kingdom of Men (Black Seas napolionic ships) using this method!
Cool !

Gotta say, whatever works!

If you dip them in very hot water for about 30 seconds you can easily un-wonk the resin :)
Really good video. Followed you instructions and it's come out really well. I used a bit of Heavy Gel Gloss as well to give a bit of volume.
Ooh, I like the sound of that.
Thank you Steve!
very welcome!
Thanks. Looks great and easy to follow 👍
Ah, the glorious days when we can afford to use Bog Roll in hobby now people have stopped stockpiling it!
Fair to say, glory days has something of a low threshold this year.
Fantastic! Thanks for the good method. But I just glued my ships to the bases sadly...
You can save it for your NEXT fleet! :-D

Great video!
Good advice!
Thank you! I haven't painted my ships yet because I wans't sure how do this.
You're welcome!
That's looking quite good! And here I thought using toilet paper for water effects was, erm, "bog standard" hobbycraft?
Thanks Steve!!
Just for you!
Great tutorial. Did you also use the pvc glue to attach the ship to the base?
Honestly I can't remember... PVA/wood glue takes a little while to dry so it might have been super glue
You sold me when you said lazy 🤪

Treat 'em mean! Keep 'em keen!
Kickass dude
Great video....but jeez stop chucking your minis about, i cringed everytime you slammed one down on the table lol
Gotta keep them in line, show them who’s boss!
