The F1 LM has some of the most crazy building techniques so far in the speed champions line.
I think it's tied for me for the best building experience so far. Kind of like the Countach.
@@RoscoeWasHere yea it reminded my of that Lambo right away
The Countach HAS to be the best!
We got a pretty great lineup this year. Well done Lego designers!
Agreed!
I totally agree with what you said about speed champions double packs, how one feels like the focal point and the other seems like an addon. in my opinion they should make double packs of really iconic cars within the same brand, together (I.E. Camaro and corvette ) or older versions and the newer versions (I.E. 1969 mustang and 2016 mustang)
or if they're feeling extra adventurous, they can do a triple pack with a dodge, ford and a chevy.
just my opinion.
I would give so much for a Mazda Miata and 787B double Pack.
same, these hypercars like the Solus or the Valkyrie don't work for me, they all look the same, never heard of them, never going to see one of them, don't look anything like a "real" car. I strip them for parts and build muscle car MOCs out of them. I'd be happier if they focused on the classics, the sets containing them seem to sell the best.
Yeahh something kinda like the corvette double pack
Now I want a C8 Corvette LOL
@@jamesking4589 exactly
2:08 these quarter dome pieces were used printed and in light bluish gray for the headlights on the aston martin db5 last year for the first time.
Lol, you are right! I need more sleep :D
I was just gonna comment that.
Looking forward to this set the most love that Lego has finally given use the McLaren F1 LM
I think they both look amazing and I'm sure the solus will be a nice friend for the valkyrie as they are similar purpose-built track toys. I'm so excited for this one!!
I absolutely love how detailed speed champions cars have gotten in these past years, they really have become die-cast level cars for such an amazing price. I think the McLaren f1 could have been better separately here, but it is interesting to see a video game inspired supercar here. Thanks for another great video as always!
Picked these up last night at Walmart!! Can’t wait to build tonight!!
I was dying to see this video come out! I love your detailed review, there's just knowledge on the ambient.
IMO the Solus gets way too much hate. I think the building techniques used alone to capture the curvy angles is amazing, especially the rear fin assembly. When you consider you really only are paying $15 for it too, you really can't get much better.
It's a fun build but the value for money varies depending on country. In New Zealand and Australia this set costs more than buying 2 of the single car sets separately.
@@BusaNZ1340 I’m an American so I’m looking at it in USD
Love the f1 lm from the box already
They both look amazing, I’m definitely buying this set first
Awesome building techniques as usual. F1 is absolutely amazing! Thank you for detailed review :)
F1 is amazing omg...
While not the biggest fan of the Solus GT it does offer up a unique enough building experience, and the end result looks pretty good. Definitely would prefer to pick up the F1 separately (as it would seem every year with these two packs) but as a complete set the value is still there and they look pretty great together as I've found with all previous vs sets. Pretty awesome choices this year, and can't wait for what the theme has in Summer. Also that curved element was first used with a printed headlight for the 007 car last year.
The F1 is the highlight of the wave for me. Its a triumph. The Solace wasn't that important to me and had low expectations, but the building techniques and finished look are great 👍🏻🥳
@6:35 - I made that EXACT mistake when I built the set yesterday. My first Speed Champions set (bought because I wanted something to build and $45 CA for the double set is an awesome deal compared to the $34 CA for single sets).
I'm surprised at just how incredibly heavy and chunky these are. Definitely prefer the F1 LM, both for building (despite getting caught out by the 2x1 plates that go on before the black wedges in the front) and for looks. The Solus GT, though, will probably be broken down and packed away in ziplock bags until I'm bored and need something to build. :P
lets gooo finally the best set
I just finished building my LEGO Speed Champions 76918 McLaren Solus GT & McLaren F1 LM, and they look amazing! The detailing is really impressive and the end result is two very realistic models. Highly recommend this set!
I hope LEGO goes back to the old sets and redesigns them 8 studs wide
I've just got into lego and it was really fun making the lamboughini countach, they look great on a shelf too
I almost bought it yesterday but wanted to see Your review first
Great Set Review! Some really good angles and techniques ill have to learn from this new wave!
The quarter dome pieces first appeared in the 007 Aston DB5 set, in grey, with headlight prints. Good to see them again.
I really like how the F1 has actual headlight pieces and not stickers or printed sloped pieces.
oh man this F1 LM looks GORGEOUS, I definitely need one of those
I have been waiting for this video, this past Friday my WalMart was stocking the Speed Champions spring sets. There was only one set of each so I was fortunate to be at the right place right time. This set to me seems to be my favorite just by the pictures and the designers video. Plus you can fit baby Yodas in the F1 LM lol
I’ve been waiting for this one. Thanks!
The techniques in F1 are insanity
The Solus GT seems interesting to build, but I still have hard time liking how it looks with such bricky design. I know it's hard to do the original in this scale, but still it feels to me like a generic futuristic toy car. For the F1 LM - this front assembly really rocks :)
And yeah, I would still prefer to buy the F1 LM separately...
The only thing I would add right now to the Lego speed champions line would be; a better rim selection as for as type and color of rim. So that way you could have more of a mix and match of rim+tire. So that way it’s not the same old boring rims on every car.
Awesome vid! The McLaren's have a special place in my heart, my first Speed Champions model was the 6 stud wide Senna! Could you do a roundup/favorite/top recommended video for the Speed Champions series midway through 2023, with your favorite cars so far, and your top recommended sets? All these awesome sets makes it hard to choose and sort
I beg Lego to remake some of the old 6 studs cars into the 8 line. The list of iconic cars is countless, they deserve an updated version. (911 and 918, LaFerrari, F40, 250 GTO, Camaro and Corvette, P1 and Senna....)
Pretty amazing wave, although I hope next wave we get a bigger variety of cars. Would love some more rally build and a couple trucks
Got this set yesterday after a local retailer put some of the March sets out early. The F1 LM is brilliant, one of the best Speed Champions cars to date. The Solus GT was a surprisingly interesting build even though I didn't care about the car that much at first.
The McLaren F1 is definitely the highlight from this SC wave, but it's a pity to have it in a double pack with the other uninteresting car.
I was really tempted to buy the sets with 35% discount, but there is no rush and I'm sure they will drop more.
This is an amazing review of both of my favourite car builds.
One of the coolest sets I’ve seen
This set wouldve been perfect for them to remake a P1 in 8 wide like the Ford gt set instead of the Solus GT
I just bought this set yesterday and both cars looked very stunning
7:58
I think reason why Mclaren will make 25 Samples of the Solus GT is because it is a reference to Gran Turismo's 25th Anniversary since the lauch of GT1 in the 90's
the front didn’t fit right when i put it in like at 7:17 super weird. can anyone help with that?
ill buy this lego set just for the F1 LM the Solus can stay in pieces sorted
This video saved me! Thank you
I love speed champions! I hope we get them for many years.
Wasn't expecting both to be single-seaters. Tempted to make the black and white one into a Starfighter.
Wish they would do an F1 in 1:8 Technic
So when I add the back part of the roof it’s too night and won’t line up with the seat help 5:53
This was already a must have for me because of the F1, but the Solus build process is so unusual, it only cemented my decision.
The air intake thing on the door of the F1 LM is beautiful.
Love the orange dedicated to Bruce
The front of the car reminds me of the lambo Countach with the funky snot assemblage at the front. 7:25
'the default weather' love that
Just built my first one. Didn't know two came in the box lol. Lookin forward to building it. The first took me like 5 hours
6:35 that exact same thing happened to me even though I've seen your video already :D
The windscreen not sitting flat on the Solus is an easy fix, just remove the modified plates and bar setup, and attach the game controller to a 1x1 inverted bracket, its also a better distance from the driver.
i'll come back and watch this once i built them, want to savor the experience first.
I really like the orange one, it's funny, this is the first time I have paid attention to these and now I actually want them, so good work, also the builds seem really intense and interesting.
Amazing models, i heard a polybag of the Solus GT was coming out too!
The F1 LM looks so nice!
I'm actually most enthusiastic about the Solus. I love the Technic base for it, and even though it looks a bit more cartoon-y (or video game-y), I really like it.
The double pack thing doesn't matter at all if you get every Speed Champions car or if you at the opposite extreme and you buy none (where I usually am). The only Speed Champion car I've ever built was one that my kid picked out at Wal-mart (at age 4), and so I put it together for him. This is the first time I've decided to buy one myself, and will end up with 2 cars instead of 1, due to the double pack thing. I'm fine with it. It feels more worth getting into a new theme when you get 2 cars at once. But that's just my take.
Those curved arch pieces are used in red on the Small Vespa scooter
And this why im colecting all speed champions from 8 stud era. Thank you and i love your vids ( sorry if there is anything wrong im a teen but still not that good at English)
hi nice video like always
Great review!
@RacingBrick will you do a ranking of this year's speed champions sets (and/or cars/models) ?
I am definitely getting this because I am a fan of late 20th century cars. I already have the Lamborghini Countach and the Aston Martin DB5.
I prefer the old wheels nice job 👍 keep it up
Bought this yesterday at a UK supermarket on offer with their loyalty card - £24!!! Really looking forward to the build after seeing your review.
I actually just picked this set up a few days ago as a post-surgery pick-me-up because I haven't played with legos or really touched them in quite a few years. I was absolutely pleased with the set, and it being my first Speed Champions set(I'd heard of the Speed Champions line but just never bought one) I can safely say I will definitely be buying more in the future. I'm not really much of a gearhead personally but I know a couple in my life, so I now know great gifts to pick up for them.
I really like the Solus. Very well done at this scale. Lots of crazy solutions going on - maybe too much. Some of the weird connections and fancy pieces were not actually necessary. The designers seemed to be showing-off. Also, I thought you were a bit too harsh on those panels behind the front wheels - they're totally fine as long as you don't try to pick the car up by them. One of the most ambitious speed champions cars, done very well in my opinion.
I love every car in the speed champions theme!
The building techniques are so much better than when they were first launched!
6 stud wide cars had weird shapes and didn’t look realistic.
The F1 looks amazing, I wish it was stand alone as I don't really care for the Solus GT
I made the same mistake with the printed plate on the f1, found it in the slanted door section
Worth every penny. It’s going up in value. Will be worth $80USD by next year.
Nice.
I just bought this set at a local WalMart in North Carolina this morning. Also got 42154, 42153 and 76914
Same here. All awesome builds
For sure, they are beauties.
I'm about to get this for my birth day!
I started playing the Lego 2k Drive and already I want this set to go with all of my other speed champions cars
As someone who’s not really into car history and is more into the line for the building/design aspects, the F1 just looks like any other car. I’m mostly buying this for the cool looking Solus lol.
Solus GT build is blurring the line between Lego car and Tamiya mini 4WD
Really cool
Built this while watching!
clever use of baby yoda, appreciate the review bud!
Bonus points for knowing who Bruce McLaren is.
As a Kiwi and a big fan of Bruce and your channel I tip my hat to you 🤙
Thanks man
Actually, there were 106 McLaren F1s built in total. To my knowledge 6 are destroyed beyond repair leaving 100. The original numbers were 5 prototypes (XP1 (blew up in Africa), XP2 (crash test car), XP3, XP4 and XP5), 6 LMs (XP1LM, LM1 - LM5), 28 GTRS (1995 #01R-#09R (LMs were based on #01R which won and 4 others which ranked highly in the 1995 24h of Le Mans), 1996 #10R-#18R, 1997 Longtails #19R-#28R), 3 GTs (1 prototype XPGT #056XP, 2 customer cars #054 and #058) and finally 64 roadcars over 6 years from '92 to '98, two of which (#018 and #073) had HDKs which gave them an aerodynamic package similar to that of an LM or GTR, plus had any engine restrictors removed, tweaked suspension and more comfy interiors over either the LM or GTR.
I must say, for the mclaren f1 lm, Keetorange (the color of the seats) would have been a bit more accurate than standard orange to match the real car, but the shaping is amazing!
Hell I’m gonna get that F1
That Mandalorian reference was (mwha) Chef's Kiss fantastic
I found and built this set last Friday; I found it on the shelves at Walmart.
Great review again! I love these reviews 👍😊 in my opinion the pagani and the two mclaren are the best speed champions at the moment 😊😊
The Solus looks great the tight angels and shaping achieved in those side skirts is phenomenal along with the cockpit. However i'm not to hot on the F1 LM it looks far to boxy which IRL it's not having slight but significant curves and looks toyish as a result.
Was hoping that the F1 would indeed fit 3 figures, but that's a wish too far, even for the new chassis piece...
i only want it for the F1, but some of the parts from the other will be nice for slant nose 911.
I'll buy this set only for the McLaren F1. Same as with the double Aston Martin set
I’ve seen a solus GT in real life and my god it’s a beautiful car.
The "rear seats' behind the central one in F1 are "trunks" for helmets/hair pieces. Speed Champions set always have a place to store the "replaceable headgear", and here, since Solus has quite a tight cockpit, F1 was obligthed to fit bot helmets somewhere.
The "rear seats" in that car are truly rear seats, believe me. Maybe you could check the real car's seat configuration?
@@RacingBrickhe was saying that as a joke 💀 I think he knows lol
@@xxtimo_titanxx7189 let's hope so :)
@@RacingBrick Yeah, they are, for sure. I mean that in Speed Champions the rear seats are rather placeholers than real seats (too right, too low the roof, etc), so they appear as "some place for luggage". Aston Martin DB5, for example, has well-shaped and nearly fullsized rear seats "coach", but only a single minifigure may fit here, only when lie down...
I love how the Solus is 9 studs wide and yet starts from nothing! No base plate of any type. LOL
Love your Grogu touch too 🤣👏
Time to get into groups and make some friends in the States to get your Legos cheaper in the EU. There’s a business or just good friendship to be made in that statement.
