- Jakarta celebrated its 497th birthday on Saturday (Jun 22), the last time it commemorated the event as Indonesia's capital. The local government is preparing a roadmap on how the city can remain relevant as the country's economic centre. But as CNA’s Saifulbahri Ismail finds out, the vision may be fraught with challenges.

Note:This will be tha last birthday of Jakarta as a Nation’s Capital while Manila’s birthday is still applied in Philippine Nation’s Capital so we look forward for the future capital of the Philippines, but most likely was Clark Pampanga as a possible future capital of the Philippines 😊😊

New Clark City is not poised as the new capital. It's just a new city for the bulk of government administration offices to move into. Manila still would have the main legislative, judicial, and executive offices to remain.

as jakartan citizen its good tho.. jakarta citizen only 11-12 million.. but the people moving in the city is arround 35 million per day.. now we hope they attract to ikn..
People would still moving into Jakarta and its aglomeration "Jabodetabek" (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, Bekasi) because all foreign & domestic companies have their HQ there. All job vacancies are mostly in there.

I believed that Jakarta will remain relevant as a global city for another 1 or 2 decades (at least) although it's not the Indonesia capital anymore.
Mumbai, NYC, Shanghai, Sydney... are some of the largest cities in the world and yet there are not the capital city.

as Indonesian who lived at Jakarta for 17 years before moving to Singapore, one things I noticed was the traffic getting worse (I moved to Jakarta since early 1990s). Hope this issue can improve in future years

Want to make sure IKN free from congestion? Ban car and motorbike, including the electric one. Force all IKN citizen to use the bus which already use electricity. Built the IKN a walking friendly city, so friendly for walking that no car or motorbike needed.
Unfortunately, I don't see IKN was built that way.

The new capitol in pontianak borneo is the new game changer. The infrastructures all new and high tech smart city. Only rich citizens, skilled people will be allowed in minus the slummers. When fully occupied, the new capitol will look like singapore, Shenzhen. 😊

Losing capital city status isn’t something as huge as a lot of people implies, many cities have lost its capital city status yet still remain as the biggest/richest city of their respective countries.

The lower third text doesn't make sense. You can only have each birthday once, so '497th birthday for the last time' is redundant. Each numbered birthday is the first, only and last time you will have it. Also, cities don't have birthdays because they're not birthed, they can only have anniversaries.

no its not! There are many project from central governmentto prevent Jakarta from sinking faster, to reduce pollution etc.some project are Giant Sea Wall, River revitalization, dam construction in upper stream, public transport ( MRT and LRT), RDF Plant for waste management etc
