Chuck I just want to reiterate: you should totally add some affiliate Amazon links to the descriptions. It’d warm my heart to know that while I’m shelling out the cash I was already gonna spend on this stuff, I’m also adding a few cents into the pocket of the fella who pointed me that way to begin with
EVERYTIME I see one these videos I get anxious to complete mine and get super excited but get depressed because don't have the help/ friends like chuck does to help me. However I'm glad he made these so now I have a template to follow ❤❤❤Bus looks GREAT!
Well shucks....I missed the premier! Great video brother.......it was a great hanging out with you and I look forward to our next meetup soonish. It's so cool how well we were able to match the color....looks so good next to your scout!
I was just taught a trick by my brother with the reflective tape and stickers. If you take your time and heat your "metal" around and the reflective tape it self for 2-3 minutes it just peels off. I put the heat gun down pulled up a corner and started pulling and it just peeled off glue and all. The reflective had been on there for 18 years, best lesson I have learned in a long time.....patience "heat the metal". All tape was off bus with in 90 minutes. :)
Chuck. You could have taken the original panel, to the paint store, and had them shoot it on the computer. It will give you THEE EXACT COLOR, you had. AND the formula as well. I'm professional painter and it's spot-on when they shoot it on the computer. Just saying for next time. ✌🏼♥️🌱
hopefully next time wont be for a long time :) the tricky part was that the computer match for this paint wasnt available in the brand we wanted to use, and we had to add flattening agent to get the match and convert the whole recipie to single stage. couldnt resist getting custom lol. thanks for watching
Your '73 International Scout is looking sweet at half a century young, Chuck, a testament to your love and maintenence. I'm afraid this June I will have to "be square" as my health precludes me from attending anything other than regular visits to the nearby Infusion Center. I definitely look forward to watching the fun via your Channel and Regretlyss's Channel.
Pro Tip, if you have access to a hot water heater, you can hook your power washer to that and make a hot water power washer out of a regular orne, or a super hot heated power washer 🦾
Chuck, is it really a skoolie if there's no sags in the paint? I don't know a lot of the charm of skoolies is the somewhat amateurish stuff that goes on. All that said it is a really nice paint job and yes you did it right with the seam sealer and primer/sealer. Keep the good stuff coming.
I'm so jealous! My bus needs paint so bad! Part of me fantasies about recruiting some nomad friends at the bus fair and doing a quick and dirty scuff-n-roll job, barn raise style afterward 🙏 back and roof look good, but the rest is 3 colors 🤦🏼♂️
Love the green color, however, I also loved the gray color that went on first. I might have been inclined to stop after that one. But the color you chose is beautiful. Great job.
If I didn't have a green Scout that would not have been the color I would have chosen, but yeah...perfect! You're going to get a lot of attention towing the Scout with your home! Great job Wes & Joe (and you with all the prep)!
Hey Pam, it’s good seeing you out there walking. As you know, walking is good for both our physical and mental health. Stretching is key to keeping your body limber. I give my pelvic area more time and attention to stretch out since my left hip is always tight, and it will give me the blues if I don’t stretch. Yes, give yourself grace because you’re on your life journey! Namaste 💕💐🙏🏾
Good video. I am the sort to do all my own work if possible. Painting was one thing I considered farming out. But I hope I am able to do it myself. I grew up in a junkyard, my father still builds classic and custom cars, but he has always absolutely detested paint work, so I learned how to weld, use a lathe, all sorts of maintenance and repair, but never learned paint.
All good, educational, helpful tips, product recommendations and reviews, plus common problem solutions. The info on the air brake electrical could be a game changer for someone working threw that. Thanks, the pros making it happen 💯
Beautiful Job and Color on your bus. Chuck. It looks just like it belongs in the Great Outdoors. Looking foreword to watching you finish it up. Keep up the great Job.. MWP Cosby. Tn.
You were in my hometown and I didn’t even know it! I love Wichita. Had I known you were in town then I would have invited ya’ out to my amazing church. 😂
Hi Chuck, great paint job. Wes and Joe did a masterful job on prepping and painting the bus with custom paint. Thanks 🙏 to you Chuck for the prep work. I think you have a one of a kind perfect 🤩 paint job. Looks like a J.I.Joe rig. Really excited about the inside build. Look forward to that video. Thanks 🙏 a lot.
What an incredible job! Its always so much fun to see somebody who does their craft so well do it. You watch Wes and the motion with his hand using that sprayer, that's talent. Truly paint symphony. He too is enjoyment to listen to and watch. Thanks for taking us along on this part of your build.
I just saw another TH-cam channel The Endless Adventure get their propane tank fixed by Wes. That is really neat how small the School Bus community is.
Great video Chuck! Very informative. Great color and match. Are you going to trailer the old girl or tow the scout. ‘73: back when metal was thick, tough and men were too. Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the build
I followed Wes for years now, his work is impeccable, his talent is amazing and he has a laid-back personality that just seems to be rare in these stressful times. My Hope is that he gets lots of work from this video, he deserves it!
How did you put the metal in the back windows on the bus, door and back end? I don’t see any rivets on that ? Did you weld the panels in or what ?? Thanks Chuck!!! Todd
Thanks man! Got my roof raised a few weeks ago. All the hat channels welded in and I’ve got the back cap sheet metal on. Getting ready to start on the sides.. Your bus looks great by the way !
Did they paint the whole roof, or just what they could reach from the ladders? I only ask because it didn’t look like they could reach to the center of the roof. The bus looks great either way.
Chuck, Does steam cleaning an engine bay include spraying hot water under high pressure? If so, what keeps the water from getting into the nooks and crannies of the engine where it doesn’t belong? It worries me.
You may have mentioned this somewhere in here, but I probably glossed over it, but where did you get your paint? We're almost ready to begin sourcing ours and I'm looking for the best lead.
This was great!! Do you have a link to that rubber attachment you used to clean off the decal residue?? I’m hoping to begin prepping for my paint job this weekend! ☺️
I initially didn't use etching primer on galvanneal steel and just primed it with Rust-Oleum farm and implement primer and at the end the masking tape peeled the paint and primer down to bare steel when I removed it, and this happened only on the galvanneal steel parts, not on existing bus' metal, so now I always recommend people put etching primer on galvanneal parts. I don't trust the advertisement that galvanneal steel is ready for painting.
Do either of you knowledgeable gents have a recommendation on a primer to use for little chipped areas or scratches while waiting on being able to do the full job? Like something to spray onto the parts that would otherwise rust since they’ll be exposed from now until when we’re able to paint. I’ve been using rustoleum rusty metal primer
Did the guys have to do anything special to paint the roof? I didn't see if they sprayed from a ladder or if they actually got up there and sprayed while they were standing on the roof.
@@ChuckCassadyYT like green buses are A tier, blacked out bus is C tier, stock yellow is F tier. Making tier list is a thing the internet does apperently.
Looks OK, but I would have gone full gloss. Satin auto finishes always look amateur regardless of how professional the painter is. Love the Scout, bootiful baby right there.
Good video however , Wes should have know it's not " modeling " it's Mottling . Full definition is ....... Wes also did the forbidden act of running his bare hands over the surface , should have had latex gloves on to prevent the natural oils from contaminating the surface and actually having the tack rag between his hand and the surface will detected the imperfections much better. Wes does have his spraying pattern down very well just a little off on his prep work. Yes I am very critical when it comes to prep work however I have learned over the years how important these little steps are. To quote the movie 'i love you, man', "i gotta get some f*cking friends."
15:02 Wow! Someone need to fashion a bus to resemble to front end of a 30's Ford Model-A hot rod.
AGREED
Oh boy my weekly bus fix
Well shucks....I missed the premier! Great video brother.......it was a great hanging out with you and I look forward to our next meetup soonish. It's so cool how well we were able to match the color....looks so good next to your scout!

love that OSHA-approved ladder crab-walking
Chuck, you should be charging extra for these videos. They are truly invaluable.

Missed the premiere Chuck so I watched it before I went to bed. Great finish on the bus and love the SCOUT to. Have a great week
paul that is really cool of you to make sure you caught my vid. appreciate you sir!
Excellent!!!
Great video. 👍Thx.
Absolutely nothing like a freshly painted vehicle.
I just saw another TH-cam channel The Endless Adventure get their propane tank fixed by Wes. That is really neat how small the School Bus community is.

stealing the show!
Could you paint before installing windows? Is there a beneficial reason to paint after they are installed?
Wes is a true artist!
AWESOME JOB MAN!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video Chuck! Very informative. Great color and match. Are you going to trailer the old girl or tow the scout. ‘73: back when metal was thick, tough and men were too. Anyway, looking forward to the rest of the build
Not sure yet! I wish International used better paint lol my scout is a lil bit rusty which is my big hesitation.... but how good would that look?
Immaculate paint job! 😎👌🏾

Yes they do
Damn fine paint job!
i know.... almost too nice

Did they paint the whole roof, or just what they could reach from the ladders? I only ask because it didn’t look like they could reach to the center of the roof. The bus looks great either way.
the roof is getting a membrane system to cover it--you'll see in the video two weeks from this
Wow Amazing Job Chuck, great video! I'm almost finished painting mine, wish i saw this info earlier.
Next time! llol jk hopefully there wont be a next time for either of us anytime soon :)

You may have mentioned this somewhere in here, but I probably glossed over it, but where did you get your paint? We're almost ready to begin sourcing ours and I'm looking for the best lead.
What brand paint did you use? Have a pic of the can? Where did you order?
Wow, I love your work, but pea green for your bus color.
It’s almost like we have different tastes! I explained why I chose it in the video. It’s a sentimental color-paint your bus whatever you want
This was great!! Do you have a link to that rubber attachment you used to clean off the decal residue?? I’m hoping to begin prepping for my paint job this weekend! ☺️
Where can you go to get replacement lights?
Quick question. How many gallons of paint did you use
Nice Job ! Did you not paint the roof same color? I still see some yellow left?
I didn't, its gonna get a special treatment!
So what are you naming it, the Pea Pod, green midi, or what?
Hey chuck! Did you apply seam sealer around your windows or just leave them alone and let the butyl from the window install do the sealing?
-thanks!
Just butyl!

There are only two kinds of paint that will stick-epoxy primer and latex
