This is one of my all time favorites. I was 16 years old and everywhere you went you heard this beautiful orchestration. It’s something you can never tire of. Reminds me of simpler and more innocent times. Thanks Harri. 👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦
I feel the same as you...at the time I was only 4 years old, so, of course I found out about this music later...in 1973, and, I don't know why, since the very first time, it gave me a taste of something good in the past...this music seems to be containing a compelling sense of a melancholic nostalgia.....otherwise, how could I feel nostalgic for a time I didn't live ?!?.....I don't know !
I didn't arrive on this planet until 1961 but even so ,I totally understand what you are saying It takes me back to being a kid but I remember hearing it a lot .It's a soothing lovely piece of music 🎶. Now aged 63 the nostalgia kicks in 😁
I heard this in my childhood too. Nice to just hear music once in a while. Just beautiful. It takes you places. There is also a video of this where Andy Williams sings to this music. Who else could do it justice.
Percy Faith was a famous Canadian Big Band leader...This kind of music of easy listening music topped the charts and could be easily found on FM radio station every where back in the 60's and 70's
This touches my heart I was 5yrs old standing on the dock at sunset watching a beautiful ocean liner sail away with my father on it They were playing this song on board I was with my mother sister and younger brother We united in a new country for a better life
Boy does that song ever take me back! Isn't it wonderful, how a song, and it's music can transport you back in time when we were very young, and things were simple. This is Beautiful Harri. I think it's from the late 50s or early to mid 60s.
Such a beautiful song! Percy Faith was a Canadian American bandleader, composer & conductor known for his lush arrangements of instrumental ballads & movie scores.
I saw the movie this was taken from on TCM not too long ago. It had Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue in it. That was in the 60''s. This song is just beautiful. It never grows old.
This is something you listen to with your heart as well as your ears. Movie themes from yesteryear were some of the most beautiful music compositions, of which Percy Faith and Henry Mancini were masters... lush arrangements with the strings section in the forefront. Simply magical.
This went to Number 1 on the charts for 9 weeks, still a record for an instrumental. There were versions with vocals too, including Andy Williams and The Lettermen. There's an old black and white video on TH-cam of the orchestra recording the instrumental in the studio, it's fun to watch if you like strings. Great song choice!
Number one on the US Billboard charts for most of February, March and April 1960. For a 1959 film. So even a bit earlier and better than you thought. Maybe later in the UK.
Always one of my favorites, Harri. And much better to listen to than sit through the movie itself. LOL. Talk about being stuck in the fifties. Thanks, Harri, this is candy in my ears.
I have always loved this song. It was from a movie of the same name. I was it the first time when I was young and have always loved it. Sandra Dee and Trpy Donahue. WoW
Memories of growing up and listening to the radio in the mid-60s and long after when it remained a staple of a particular easy listening brand of non-pop and rock radio station.
This dreamy song evokes memories of a more innocent time in our world. Another instrumental that has the same effect is the lovely medley of "Moonglow and Theme From Picnic" by film composer and music director Morris Stoloff, a huge hit in 1956.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever, and I love it. My father, who is now 92 and still doing well introduced me to it. However, he only has 3% of his hearing left, and it grieves me that he can no longer enjoy this song because he can no longer hear it. PLEASE MAKE A POINT OF PROTECTING YOUR ABILITY TO HEAR--FOR YOUR SAKE, AND THOSE WHO LOVE YOU!
Such a beautiful song that brings back happy memories of my youth. The sweet strings are amazing, the horns so classy, and the whole orchestra perfection. This was written in 1959 for the movie "Summer Place" starring Sandra Dee and Troy Donahue. It won a Grammy for Song of the year in 1961. It was at Number 1 for 9 weeks. I'm sure it's been in many movies since then. 💎💎💎💎 Thanks Harri. Beautiful memories. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
This was number one on the charts when I was born in 1960-this version is a remake--there's a great performance video of this song as they recorded it in the studio-a must see. Another great instrumental and my all time favorite is Bill Pursell's Our Winter Love from 1963.
I’m pleased to see that your last few reactions have been to music from the 1950s-early 60s (pre-Beatles). I’d like to throw out a couple of suggestions from this era: “Venus” by Frankie Avalon, and “Teenage Idol” by Ricky Nelson.
Believe it or not, this tune was written by Max Steiner; who also wrote the music for King Kong, Gone With The Wind and Casablanca. I was shocked to learn this!
They used to play this on the speakers at 6 flags Magic Mountain in Southern California. It was a theme park like Disneyland. But more roller coasters. I loved hearing it. Brings back good memories.
Super nostalgic hearing & seeing a few of the instrumentals that often played in my youth receive attention on the channel. I often think of myself as having eclectic musical tastes, but listening to this today, I realized that my parents were teens in the '40's & '50s, my elder sisters in the '60s & '70s, and my own formative years fell in the '70s & '80s. Given how often music was played in our home, it's no wonder they run the gamut!
You might've just heard that hook... fantastic. I remember cramming for my high school physics final in the wee hours, and this movie came on. That theme, so captivating, and there I was: combat boots, spiked hair and studded leather. Love this.
The songs of my childhood. Another great instrumental from that period is the beautiful "Sleepwalk", which is arguably the most beautiful of all the instrumentals of that era.
Takes one waaayyy back to 1960. You heard this every where for years after. Back when yo could do an instrumental and hear it regularly on the radio wit no shame, through the 1980's, movie themes...this WAS a great movie BTW. Another great movie theme was from the 1980's was Saint Elmo's Fire Love theme
Composer Max Steiner - as many of you know -scored so many films in the 30s ,40 s 50s including films even more popular than this soap opera of a movie ....including " Casablanca" and " Gone with the Wind"
I love this one .. The melody is beautiful and the high strings are just so sweet .. But when it comes to classic instrumental hits with an orchestral flavour there are none better than "Love Is Blue" by Paul Mauriat and his orchestra .. It is musical perfection .. PLEASE react to it, Harri !
Growing up in the 60's and 70's it happened often that a instrumental would perform strong in the charts. Love is Blue by Paul Marriott is a fabulous one. Music Box Dancer and Chariots of fire theme. Brian's song theme Romeo and juliet from Henri Mancini were some very popular ones.
Great review, brings tears to my eyes. I can remember the first time i heard this at the cimema 1961/62 with my very first girlfriend.beautiful track, and she was beautiful too.. Diamonds indeed
It was actually composed in 1959 for the movie A Summer Place by Hugo Winterhalter, It was later arranged and recorded by Percy Faith and performed by his orchestra.
I remember listening to this beautiful music years ago, & it took me a while later on when I'd remember the music but NOT the name. This is my favourite music of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!! 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝
Being number one on the US Billboard charts for most of February, March and April 1960, had it number one for the entire year of 1960 on the Billboard charts. Just saw this in four hour vid of the top 100 Billboard records for 1960 posted ten days ago. It outsold all the other rock and roll and other types of records by Elvis and the rest.
Beautiful song! It reminds me of waiting at the dentist's office or any other business reception area or elevator! The next song played was most likely "Chances Are" by Johnny Mathis!
the strings absolutely perfect and when those French-horns come in on counterpoint - well - will forever remind me of those more gentler times of my childhood. Nothing compares really. Like Proust's Madelaine to me.
why is it that whenever this beautiful melody is played, only the conductor of the orchestra (Percy Faith) is mentioned, and not the composer (Max Steiner)?
I don't know where this download came from but it is not the original Percy Faith version. It sounds to me like one of those knock-offs by Time Life or one of those other companies that does a compilation of mood music. The original Percy Faith version is much more Lush and better recorded.
This is one of my all time favorites. I was 16 years old and everywhere you went you heard this beautiful orchestration. It’s something you can never tire of. Reminds me of simpler and more innocent times. Thanks Harri. 👏👏🇨🇦🇨🇦

@@giuliogrifi7739 Well said. I understand completely.
Love Is Blue and Theme from a Summer Place❤️❤️
I’m with you Carol, the most beautiful song I ever heard
I didn't arrive on this planet until 1961 but even so ,I totally understand what you are saying
It takes me back to being a kid but I remember hearing it a lot .It's a soothing lovely piece of music 🎶.
Now aged 63 the nostalgia kicks in 😁
I feel that this is by far the best version of this song! I love it!
THIS is one of the MOST beautiful songs I have EVER heard in my 69 years on this earth. God blessed Mr. Faith to bless us !!
I heard this in my childhood too. Nice to just hear music once in a while. Just beautiful. It takes you places. There is also a video of this where Andy Williams sings to this music. Who else could do it justice.
The day I was born, this song was #1️⃣ in the charts
🇨🇦
This is one of the best songs ever. Percy Faith's arrangement is perfect.
Percy Faith was a famous Canadian Big Band leader...This kind of music of easy listening music topped the charts and could be easily found on FM radio station every where back in the 60's and 70's
I'm almost in tears! What great memories we have!! This was a favorite!! Thanks Harri!!
This touches my heart I was 5yrs old standing on the dock at sunset watching a beautiful ocean liner sail away with my father on it They were playing this song on board I was with my mother sister and younger brother We united in a new country for a better life

He was born in 2 countries?
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever! Watch the live orchestra version 💕

Beautiful !...I was 13 and remember this so, so well ! What a grande arrangement by Percy Faith !..summer of 1960 !!!
Wow, love this song, haven't heard it in decades.
Goosebumps even sixty some years later. Wow.
I loved this song (and the movie) back in the day. It is so beautiful. Thanks Harri.
I heard this a lot growing up - my parents would listen to the “elevator music” radio stations wherever we went.
This went to Number 1 on the charts for 9 weeks, still a record for an instrumental. There were versions with vocals too, including Andy Williams and The Lettermen. I just said the same thing! 😂
One of my all-time favorite songs, and this was # 2 on the charts the day I was born in 1960
Number one on the US Billboard charts for most of February, March and April 1960. So even better than you thought.
@@johnd8892 I was born June 23rd....so it shows how long this was on the charts

Harri, your 1950's theme this evening is so enjoyable despite my being under ten years old in that decade. Enduring toons...great stuff!
Such a beautiful song that brings back happy memories of my youth. The sweet strings are amazing, the horns so classy, and the whole orchestra perfection. I have loved this since i was small spending the whole Summer at Grandma and Grandads at Ramsgate in the 60s

A popular song when I was taking ballroom dance lessons around junior high age. Love it!
This song has been used in many movies, I believe.

Same with me
I love it!!! LOVE IT !!!, thanks HARRI
Nothing bad ever happens when this plays.
We were so fortunate to grow up with this great music. Thanks Harri, for the reaction.
A masterpiece!
One of the earliest songs that I recall from childhood. Supermarket music from the 60's.
one of the most perfect melodies ever written.
Absolutely.
They say every piece of music has a Hook (The part that grabs you and pulls you in) , this track has multiple Hooks 👍🎶
Calling this a masterpiece is such an understatement!
Timeless track. Remember my grandad playing this stuff, great memories
Yes! everywhere I went to in the 50's, you heard it. Probably the biggest muzak tune of all time.
Harri this tune was my parents favourite we played it at my mum funeral 40 years later
Love this song.
Reminds .of my summer holidays with my parents at ramsgate 1960s
From the 1959 film of the same name.
Wow, this takes me back ! Beautiful !
You might've just heard that hook... fantastic. I remember cramming for my high school physics final in the wee hours, and this movie came on. That theme, so captivating, and there I was: combat boots, spiked hair and studded leather. Love this.
This is easily one of the most beautiful instrumentals in history. It went #1 for 9 weeks in a row on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Ah yes. That’s just what I needed. Thanks.
Love this!
The songs of my childhood. Another great instrumental from that period is the beautiful "Sleepwalk", which is arguably the most beautiful of all the instrumentals of that era.

I loved it too. I have heard several times
This theme has such a beautiful and heavenly sound.
I love this movie. It has one of my favorite villains in it
Nice memories. Beautiful music.
Omg i sooooo love this tune very best❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I love love this piece have not heard it for sometime beautiful to hear
Another great video Harri. SMOOOTH Keep up the great things you are doing. From Michigan
This piece is from the 1959 film "A Summer Place" and was a hit in 1960 for Percy Faith and his orchestra.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SONGS OF ALL TIME
Composer Max Steiner - as many of you know -scored so many films in the 30s ,40 s 50s including films even more popular than this soap opera of a movie ....including " Casablanca" and " Gone with the Wind"
There's a great vocal version of this song by the Lettermen. Well worth listening to.
Tough to choose between the two, but the lyrics add that extra dimension.

I first heard this music on the original Sparkle movie with Irene Cara
This is one of my faves. Love is Blue you should react to as well. These were from my grandparents day. Dang.
It was actually composed in 1959 for the movie A Summer Place by Hugo Winterhalter, It was later arranged and recorded by Percy Faith and performed by his orchestra.
My dad had this on 8 track. It came with the new car in the 60 s. He also had some Jackie Gleason in the same style.
Harri and all, if you like this song, you will definitely love Soul Coaxing (Ame Câline) Raymond Lefevre. It's a weird title for a beautiful song.
I remember listening to this beautiful music years ago, & it took me a while later on when I'd remember the music but NOT the name. This is my favourite music of ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!! 💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💝

Great evocative memories of the past ,-and as my mother has just passed , even more poignant now, Great choice as usual Harri....
I wish Barry White with his Love Unlimited Orchestra, would have remade this wonderful song.....but I guess"Love's Theme" Is perfect too.
Actually, the original song is from the 1959 film, by the same name.
Lyrics by Mack Discant and music by Max Steiner !
why is it that whenever this beautiful melody is played, only the conductor of the orchestra (Percy Faith) is mentioned, and not the composer (Max Steiner)?
Not the original recording but one of the most beautiful instrumentals
Love this.. Andy Williams does on with the words too...
I only have to think of the song's name, and I hear it. So soothing.
You will be hypnotized if you listen to Beautiful Obsession by Percy Faith as well.
in the 1989 Batman movie, this song was played when the Joker turned on play in the music center ☝😅
My absolute favourite!
I don't know where this download came from but it is not the original Percy Faith version. It sounds to me like one of those knock-offs by Time Life or one of those other companies that does a compilation of mood music. The original Percy Faith version is much more Lush and better recorded.
Paul Anka used strings on Put Your Head on My Shoulder.
I would recommend, if you like instrumentals, Classical Gas or Green Onions.
