    Injury free since following Doug's brig-20. At age 64 "better" means reducing potential injury. Wish I had known Doug's teaching when I first started in the gym. I see many people in the gym inviting potential life changing injury because they don't know there's an optional safer and more effective exercise.

    The difference between all of Doug's detractors & Doug is that Doug actually 'cuts to the chase' with clear unambiguous protocols (somewhat opinionated - but then who isn't?) that can be implemented immediately. In the past 2 months of implementing Brig 20 in my workouts, & at 63 with 40 years of working out (using 'proven' protocols), I am seeing & feeling strength & growth increases in lats, chest, quads & shoulders - all without any joint issues. This was a great 'discussion' - but what can actually be taken away from it to implement other than a lot of grey areas? Who cares if the 'math' is slightly wrong (which is debatable)? What is indisputable is that Doug's protocols are clearly laid out & actually work....I can testify to that

      Now that Doug is dead and having just watched this video, and having tried Dougs suggestions, I would say I'm with Doig on this one. I've have been shocked by the amount of growth with no straining or injuries. I would definitely suggest picking up the Physics of Fitness. Math may be exaggerated but so what.

    I'm not knowledgable enough to claim to be able to judge what Kassem is presenting here, it is very humbling to listen. But it is very inspiring that there are committed individuals like him researching all of this stuff, and someone patient enough like Abel, to conduct a detailed discussion of the matter. Brilliant. I'm sure that in due course you'll both have huge followings.

    Biomechanics are individual. Every one of us have slightly different bones and muscle attachments. Both Doug and Kaseem are probably right from their own perspective. For me the takeaway is that I have to learn, experiment and find my own ways.

    I listened to both Doug and Kassem. I came into it bias, knowing Doug's teachings first. I bought his book and I apply his techniques.
    In the end I am still using what doug is saying, it seems to make sense to me. So that's where I am at ultimately.
    However as a lay person, regular gym goer, it's difficult to tell who is right. Doug will say something and then Kasemm says that's not the case because of xyz and Doug saying it is the case.....it's actually fairly difficult for a regular person to know whose right.
    However I'm the end like I said I do believe what Doug is teaching and I'm using it. Still it was an interesting listen

    • @N1education

      This was not limited to the Brig 20, more so the logics behind the exercise ranking system. the cable squat is listed as an alternative still ranked higher than the squat. It’s also an exercise that people asked about. So having it in the continuum presented value.

    Regarding Doug's side of the matter, when he used the term "efficiency", I was under the impression that he is considering the force angle to the active lever, insofar as maximum efficiency would be 90 degrees (such as that which is sustained through a leg extension). In any quad dominant "press" variation, you would never approach anywhere near 90 degrees force angle on the tibia. This inefficiency might be illustrated in how much load becomes necessary to place on the leg press, even with a very low foot position.
    In his defence, I have personally seen him state that in his lat pull in variation, he does not promote lateral spine flexion, rather he advises to depress the shoulder on the working side at the bottom of the motion.

    • @N1education
      @N1education 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s really just different words to say about the same thing. But the angle is not linearly proportionate to the loading, which is the issue with the models. One of the challenges of this evaluation was between the different forms of content there were varying descriptions of things. I assumed that since the brig 20 videos were the newest, that those would be the most current and in those videos he does have Moe both rotating and side bending.

    • @BodyOpt
      @BodyOpt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@N1education Ok that's fair enough, I haven't seen those videos or any of the paid content, except the book which I bought in 2019. Of course I agree the force angle is one factor and ultimately the torque comes down to the moment arm.
      Personally I could see that the pull ins would not be effective, and that neither would the cable or free standing sissy squats, so never even attempted those. However, it is frustrating not to have access to squat machines. Despite performing leg presses after leg extensions, and with heels off the bottom of the plate, it's obvious they're not very effective, especially regarding return for the load used. I expect this could be enhanced with reverse bands placed, to some degree.
      Excellent food for though in your content. Trying to get my head around what you advise for humeral abduction angle in chest movements (historically I always kept my elbows tucked as it just felt stronger and more comfortable), and the angles for achieving lengthened lat positions, which do look tricky to implement.

    Here's a faster rebuttal: If Brignole is gonna talk about other's biomechanics understanding, he should get a basic clue himself. His comments on the pecs and lats show a less than kindergarten understanding of what's going on. Nothing else is even relevant past that.

    • @N1education
      @N1education 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I agree that those are probably the most offending exercises (pecs/lats) in regards to biomechanics. However I don’t think that such blunt messaging will reach anyone that is convinced otherwise. The purpose of these conversations is to reach the people with an opposing view, not pander to those that agree, so my approach is more measured to hopefully ease the viewer into being open minded. The goal is to decrease the number of people that will just become defensive and double down on their beliefs rather than being open to critical thinking.

    We REALLY need to STOP thinking like a bodybulder and START thinking like a normal human being who goes about his day NOT sitting in a chair and isolating muscles. Normal human beings QUAT down and stand back up (SQUAT) bend down and pick things up (DEADLIFT) Push things forward while on your feet (BENCH) and put things on a shelf WHILE standing up NOT sitting in a char ( OVERHEAD PRESS) train MOVEMENTS not individual muslces.. Bodybuilding has brainwashed 99% of those who go to the gym. Google STARTING STRNGTH

      Human beings don't overhead press 120 kg or press 160 kg forward or deadlifts 220 kg. They're Never submiting their spines to ALL that Crazy Axial loading. Total load Will become a problem for your joints and recovery.

    Nope, with all the respect, Kaseem is wrong with most of the thing he says. I respect his work and people like him, but I don't agree with a lot of things he said. No hate. We re here to get better. Doug s math is not right either, but his principles are relevant. Also mister Kaseem seems to lack basic knowledge when it comes to anatomy. His explication about using he long head of the Triceps is hilarious though he admitted that all 3 heads are connected to the elbow by a single joint. All the best!

      Yes of course. Also I belive we can learn from both of them, Doug and Kassim, even though I agree more with Doug(not completely). It s hard to write all that I think in a TH-cam comment but to summarize my opinion I ll say the Brignole principles are more reliable to me, just make more sense also does work when I tried his methods, even though his maths is incorrect. For me it doesn't matter if the math is accurate as long as I can perform better exercises even if they are only by a small percentage better than the 'traditional' ones, as long as it works and it keeps my body healthy I am happy. On the other side Kassim just doesn't convince me with all his explications regarding exercise selection. I don't agree with many things. I already said for me It doesn't work, to activate the long head of the Triceps more and stuff like that, maybe because I don't belive in emg studies, cause they are not taking all the extra details, such as range of motion, strenght curve, direction of the resistance and maybe more stuff than I can think right now. You can do any isometric exercise you want and the emg studies will show a lot of tension in the muscle and will result that particular exercise is great for the muscle. It s just not working like that. Also I don't agree with Kassim view regarding muscle anatomy, fibres, or the way that he understand and said that the muscle are working. I don't see the benefit to cross your arm in front of the body for more Lat activation, it doesn't make sense for me, also some other things that he said regarding chest training. I just don't see the sense, nothing personal, he clearly is a nice guy with good intention it just that his methods are not enough to convince me he s right. He is right about Doug maths being inaccurate and that s pretty much where I agree with him, other than that no, and I am looking at the big picture here, trying to benefit from all of this free info, so again Tha k you for that, and sorry if I offended anyone. Cheers

      @@octavianandron9418 Kassem used EMG In conjunction with MOXY to validate the exercise which I think it's one of the best method we can use to experiment in an in-house condition, EMG for measuring muscle activation & MOXY for measuring the degree of O2 depletion in targeted muscle to see if any of the division of tested muscle is a prime mover/most bias over the other division in each exercise.

      It might be, I don't think they have no benefits, but hence they can't consider the rest of the details that makes an exercise efficient, I don't really consider them important, meaning you can hold a dumbell in ur hand and the measurements will show that is great for the muscle targeted, I am guessing they will show that, I am not sure. In anyway aia don't agree with coach Kaseem saying you can rely biase a head of the Triceps, no matter what any emg will show, and I don't think it matters that much since you are always, I repet always, you will use all your 3 heads when your working the Triceps using any Triceps exercise!
