- We're getting to that time of year where the college football preview magazines for the upcoming season are coming out and because of that Athlon Sports got some coaches on record on what they expect from Michigan football this year. How their behind-the-scenes analysis either mirrors or rivals what we believe the new-look, Sherrone Moore-led Wolverines to be.
Then, we turn to recruiting. MSU legacy Kaden Strayhorn told us some interesting things about his recruitment as it pertains to Michigan State. We also discuss the recruitments of wide receiver Taz Williams Jr., edge rusher Marco Jones, and running back Shekai Mills-Wright.
Finally, Michigan quarterback commit Carter Smith balled out in four quarters of play in the Florida spring jamboree. What it means for the Wolverines moving forward.

I really hope so but inexperienced WRs + inexperienced QBs don't typically have crazy success. I do have faith that if our O line can be 90% as good as last year Donovan Edwards, Loveland, and our defense can carry us to the playoffs.

I think the biggest lesson we’ve learned the last three seasons is playing our style of ball.

IF WRs can block for run game, good enough?
Brady won many superbowls w shorter mid range passing game! Bombs are media darlings that aren't that prevalent.
Brady didn't win a superbowl with Randy Moss- he win it with Julian Edelman type receivers and Gronk Tight ends.

You need some semblance of a downfield pass game to stretch the field. And, really? You're using Tom Brady, the GOAT of short passes, as an example? He's an anomaly. There's no telling how competent and consistent Orji is going to be with short passes, and if we don't threaten the downfield pass at all, that'll only make completing short passes that much more difficult.
@@mattdrewdrums JJ is the clone of Brady as far as med to long passes. Brady went long just enuf to make his short to med range passes wk and win 6 SBs! JJ was exactly the same! Never said it wldnt be "nice" to have long game but Orjis run abil will make his med pass game effective unless he's too inaccurate!
Orjis run game will be to the his pass game as Bradys and JJ long game was to their short/med pass game.
Need 2 elements that are diff to keep D honest to make both wk. Long game does not have to be one of them. Orjis has big arm so if he completes 1/5 long passes over 25 yards - D will have to defend this possibility.
My tactic to beat Tex w ave coaching staff is start Tuttle (5 star! in h.schl) or Warren in ist game v Frezneck St w Orji coming in fr spot play like he did last yr. Then start Orji v Tex and run RPO every play; Tex won't have prepared for it and M cld get 14 quick pts bef Tex adjusts and that bonus gets M the V!!

Brady was NOT the best College football QB in Michigan history. You might be able to fool other Michigan Men, but not ME! But thanks for playin.
If I was a betting man I'd bet the under on total wins this year. The Complete rebuild of the offense and coaching does not add up well with that brutal schedule.
Hope Walker playing db , helps him with playing better at wr. 6'4 wr would be a serious threat to most dbs.

I never give credence to the opinions of other coaches and most fans.
1. Whole new staff will remain to see how the continuity forms.
2. The defense has got some talent for sure. The factor in that will be if the offense is capable of grinding out drives and using clock. This could be a different scenario this year.
3. The philosophy will remain in play style, but may be more difficult this season.
4. Depth is going to be critical. Especially in this new playoff format. Staying healthy and not wore down or riddled with injuries.
5. Development is critical, but the fact that last year's team was built over a 5 yrs with a covid year to keep an experienced team helped. I feel that will be a concern for this season, there are bot a lot of 4 and 5 yr players.
I say 9-3, possible playoff birth but won't go far when you have to stack up against 4 top 12 teams in the country to win it all. It's gonna take a whole second and third team players to limit exhausted players.

College football has definitely changed. And the BIG 10 has definitely changed with the addition of four strong PAC programs. AND With the portal now it is very difficult to predict a team’s success this year in the BIG 10. With that being said Michigan is still a very solid program and I expect their defense will make them very difficult to beat! And they should have a punishing ground game. We shall see how good of a passing team they will be. But that is not their strength. As they will still be predominantly a running, ball control team.
I'd like to see them double down on being a run heavy team and run it 70% of the time. They have a nice one-two punch with Edwards and Mullings and a tank of a QB in Orji
@@bend4852 I agree! But they are going to have to pass it some to keep defenses honest. Otherwise they will just stack the line of scrimmage. But with Edwards running that is also dangerous for a defense because he is so explosive once he gets open beyond the line of scrimmage. I’d like to see them get Edwards the ball more passing to him too. He’s a game breaker when he gets hot running for long touchdowns! If they beat Texas in week 2 we could see them win the BIG 10 again!

why we won the anti and got Davis in the freezer. another good qb commit and the O line is getting beast mode. there is no more college football. its NFL junior. nobody winning any big ten championships without two losses after next year. the Michigan Ohio state rivalry don't matter for shit anyone with the new playoff. Michigan is a rich school they are opening up the check book finally. sounds pretty good to me in this climate. at least we didn't blow millions trying to buy a championship and still going to have a soft pass rush like OSU. I think a newb is winning it all this year anyway.

They completely changed their coaching staff and scheme stud. Not to mention the schedule was pretty soft over the last three years. But answer me this: How come Ped State and The tough guys from Ohio didn’t win against Michigan in 2023?? No Stalions, no cheating Jim….both lost.

The less you know about college football the more you think the sign bullshit is a big deal. Connor Stalions wasnt even made sign analyst untill 2022 and if you think a couple of schlubs sitting in the stands hundreds of feet away from an opponents sideline filming from an I-phone is more impactful than professional coaches providing complete film breakdown and analysis including schemes and signs to future opponents like ohio regularly does for Michigan opponents then you're beyond help.
