I remember when my mom bought her first Coach bag. It was a big deal given its price. She used to buy JcPenny bags and this was a drastic price difference. So yes, Coach is luxury. Is it the top of luxury no. Just like most things in life, luxury has levels. Nothing is very just black and white.
I agree, Coach is luxury. It’s contemporary American luxury. It seems that it gets thrown into the “NOT” category due to price point, which could come off as a form of classism. Never had a bad customer service experience in Coach. Great video!! Thanks for sharing 😊
Elitism plays a big role here but so do the nuances of language. Coach bags are “A luxury” if you are going by the dictionary definition of the word “luxury” as compared to, in your example, a $5 canvas tote. And yes, many people will find them luxurious, both in quality and experience. But if the comparison is to traditional couturiers and purveyors of sumptuous lifestyles to the millionaire and billionaire classes - and I think that is the actual discussion here - then it’s pretty clear Coach is not Luxury with a capital “L”.
Coach used to be up there in price with LV back in the 90s and early 2000s. You know my opinion already. It’s Luxury and when people say that Coach is not luxury, that’s a completely classist statement IMO.
Coach is luxury. We have a choice to spend less but choose to indulge in the brand. As it stands now, I have a difficult time purchasing Coach like I used to considering that I can get a vintage Louis Vuitton/Gucci/Dior/Fendi/Prada piece for less. Is Coach Luxury? Absolutely. I said what I said.🥰
@@VivienneKarleneCoach is Lux to AMERICA. If their looking to branch out and bridge the gap in other markets (thus the merger with Kurig Group) then they have to expand their Profile beyond AMERICA. Like LV and Hermes they’ve got to move international. Something that would aid in this is to take their products out of TJ Maxx/Marshals. Like MIchael Kors it’s a killer on the product and the Brand’s profile. I’d. Love to work at a big fashion house/ corporate.
Dooney and Bourke / Coach used to be more expensive than LV in the 90s, when I went to buy my Speedy 30 in Oct 1994 my DB bucket and Coach flap bags cost more than that Speedy by $15 and the Coach pochette and wallet and the Dooney wallet were $25 more than the LV version. The funny thing is DB is still better quality than LV or Coach but LV and Coach are the brand name that is more popular.
Luxury is in the eye of the beholder. I've seen people on handbag forums call $500 bags from Coach and other contemporary brands "cheap," and let's be clear, $500 is not to cheap to 90%+ of the world's population. The vast majority of people don't have an extra $500 to spend on a handbag, and may never spend that much on a bag in their lifetime. For many people who buy Coach bags, it's a splurge for them; they probably aren't buying more than 1-2 handbags a year. Just because far more people can afford Coach bags than Chanel doesn't make it universally accessible -- or a necessity.
"Quality" and "luxury" aren't always the same thing, but for me, Coach threads that needle. Am I paying more than I need to? Sure. Do I feel like an extra digit has been tacked on just because of the brand? No. I mentioned this in a video on another channel recently, but I lowkey think these luxury brands are mocking their customers. It was an unboxing of a $1900 YSL bag, and the zipper literally broke right out of the box. It is absolutely wild to me that a $40 Jansport from Target is better quality than some of these bags that cost thousands. I know different bags have different purposes and people aren't buying Hermes for the same reason they're buying a backpack, but, like you said, you also shouldn't have to worry about the hardware falling off a four- or five-figure bag.
I like and agree with your perspective on this! I say to each his or her own! The definition of what is or isn’t luxury isn’t what’s important … it’s that the bags you own make you happy and spark joy. I own Chanel, Fendi, Dior, Prada, Gucci, Chloe, etc. I also own Dooney & Bourke, Coach (vintage is my fave!), Kate Spade, and Michael Kors. I love and carry them all for different reasons! I’m obsessed with the new Coach quilted Tabby bag! Whether or not it’s luxury doesn’t matter to me … it’s luxurious and gorgeous looking, and that’s good enough for me! ❤
Absolutely! It's all about what brings joy and sparks joy for you personally. Your collection sounds incredible, spanning across various brands and styles, each with its own story and charm. The Coach quilted Tabby bag does indeed look luxurious and stunning! At the end of the day, it's about finding beauty and delight in the things we love, regardless of their label or price tag. Keep rocking those fabulous bags and embracing what makes you happy!
Thanks for highlighting the ambiguity of the word luxury! I think it’s good for us to recognize that it’s a word that flexes relative to our current state. I love the current YT discourse on the differences between a personal luxury and what have been labeled as luxury brands (elite status or basically just code for you have to pay to play).
Absolutely, glad you resonated with the discussion on the ambiguity of "luxury"! It's definitely a term that evolves based on our individual perspectives and circumstances. And you bring up a great point about the distinction between personal luxuries and what's often associated with luxury brands. Sometimes it feels like "luxury" can become synonymous with exclusivity or status, but at its core, it's about what brings genuine joy and fulfillment to our lives. Thanks for engaging in the discourse-it's always enlightening to explore these nuances!
I don’t even know if LV is luxury to be honest. I took a bag in with a concern and was basically told these bags are not workhorses. Funny thing is I barely use the bag.
That's frustrating to hear about your experience with LV! It's disappointing when a luxury brand doesn't live up to expectations, especially when it comes to durability and customer service. It really makes you question what "luxury" truly means and whether it's worth the investment. I hope you're able to find a resolution to your concern and perhaps discover brands that prioritize both quality and customer satisfaction. Thanks for sharing your experience-it's important to have these conversations about what defines luxury! ✨
my rogue bag was $1,100! my tabby 33 $900!! this is luxury for these prices. and those who look down at coach are snobs. I appreciate that coach has kept many bags affordable for people while offering quality and appeal.
Interesting perspective! Luxury certainly has its roots in taxation and the classification of goods. It's true that what's considered a luxury can vary widely depending on context and personal perspective. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Thank you so much! It's wonderful to hear that you appreciated the perspective. Indeed, luxury is deeply personal and extends far beyond just high-end brands. It's all about what brings joy and fulfillment to each individual, whether it's a high-end purchase or something more modest. I'm glad we're on the same page about the diversity of what can be considered luxurious. Thanks for engaging with the discussion! ✨
Coach does have luxury quality individual bags. For example I think their Rae tote is luxury quality. But as has been said the greatest luxury item I have is my time followed by good health.
You have The Eagle Cashin tote! I think I knew that but forgot. I have the Pearl Paint tote from the same release. Love it! Fantastic video. You brought up many points I haven't heard yet and definitely added new things to the conversation. Also, it sounds like you could do a whole video on things you learned from working at Coach. Thanks for adding your knowledge, Caleb!
Thank you, Autumn! That Cashin release with the NYC locations was epic. I saw the Eagle on the runway and knew I had to have it. Thank you for starting this conversation- it was fun to weigh in on! And I definitely learned a lot at Coach- that could definitely be it's own video for sure!
I think Luxury is however one defines it for themselves. And to remember, that for some-Coach is still priced out for them. So for one to splurge on a Coach bag could be a luxury for them as it’s not an every day occurrence, so it’s special.
Absolutely, you hit the nail on the head! Luxury truly is subjective and unique to each individual's definition. It's essential to recognize that what may be a splurge for one person could indeed be a luxury for another. It's all about perspective and personal circumstances. Thanks for highlighting this important point-it's a great reminder to be mindful of differing perspectives when discussing luxury. ☺️
@@CalebSnell - Also, my kudos to you as well, in which the manner you presented this video was so well done. Being level-headed and giving a thoughtful response on a divisive topic isn’t always easy. We love to see it! ✨
Hi Caleb! I love hearing your perspective. I find your Coach experience so interesting. I felt pretty special when I bought my first Coach bag back in college 🥰
Great video. I really think luxury is and can be different for everyone. I know people personally who feel Coach is extreme luxury for them and they save to buy a Coach bag like I do to buy a Louis Vuitton.
Absolutely, luxury truly is in the eye of the beholder! It's incredible how different brands and items can hold varying degrees of significance for different people. Whether it's Coach or Louis Vuitton, what matters most is that it brings joy and fulfillment to you personally. Thanks for sharing your perspective-it's a wonderful reminder of the diversity of experiences and preferences when it comes to luxury! ✨
I agree that luxury is personal to the individual. I went to high school in the 90s and I was in a small town and all the rich kids would carry Dooney. As I grew up that was a goal of mine to get a Dooney bag. I was in such a small town that I didn't know what a Mercedes was until I went to college and my boyfriend drove one then that is when he explained to me. Fast forward now I am in my 40s and just last year I got my first Chanel bag and it was a bit underwhelming to say the least and I am thinking of giving it to a family member and just stick to my contemporary no name bags even if that means I am not on a certain level with possessions. When I was in college my mom bought me a cheap Anne Klein watch and now that she has passed away I will only wear a cheap Anne Klein watches to remember her. That is luxury to me.
Often people deem luxury based only on the metrics of price or scarcity. Those are important, yes, from a brand standing but one should also consider those along with heritage, consistency, purchase experience, and quality. Unless you are really looking at all of those metrics at once, it is often easy to rule a brand out based on just one. Coach is often ruled out because of it being more attainable (price and scarcity). The fact is it does need to be careful in brand protection (looking at you outlets) but only from the standpoint of mark up on more exclusive items. That is...to meet the perception of sought after clients/buyers. So the deeper question people are really asking is "Does Coach meet it's target demographic and is that target demographic a sought after luxury client that other brands of similar ilk also desire?" I would answer most certainly, YES. It is aspirational to folks below a certain median income and definitely purchased by middle to upper-middle income folks. The same ones that do the buying of other luxury fashion houses and brands, just less responsibly (lol). Still, I think objectively it is quite easy to say it is luxury with a CAPITAL "L". If one must add a modifier like "attainable" or "entry" or "etc, etc" by all means add it if it makes one feel better. Coach has "affordable" pieces as well as pieces that are or exceed $10,000 dollars. Simply visit Coach House or peruse limited or 1 of 1 pieces on the website.
Imagine settling down with a glass of wine and tuning into your FAVORITE Chicago vlogger only to have him mention YOUR video😭😭😭Loved your insight! Coach right now is just so interesting…I’m excited to watch the show next week to see what’s coming down the pipeline.
Hi DionneDean! A glass of wine sounds good right about now! I'm excited to see the show too! I think we're getting some more denim pieces soon, which I'm really excited about!
Hi Caleb this video is so good I really enjoyed your perception of the word luxury I'm with you I seem luxury anything that makes your heart sing from spending the day Sat on the sofa with a loved one to a 10,000 dollar and up bag luxury is not no matter the price because if it makes you happy then it's priceless right. Anyway loved the video I hope you & Zane have a great weekend!💚💚💚💚
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm thrilled you enjoyed the video and resonated with my perspective on luxury. You're absolutely right - luxury is truly about what brings joy and fulfillment to our lives, regardless of its price tag. Wishing you a fantastic weekend! 💖
This debate will never end because luxury is so subjective. I consider LV luxury, but watching the sunrise over my property with a cup of tea is equally luxurious to me. Luxury is always going to be a moving target as we progress through life ❤❤ Happy weekend lovers 🙂
Absolutely agree! Luxury is indeed subjective and can vary greatly from person to person. Whether it's a designer handbag or a peaceful moment with nature, it's all about what brings joy and fulfillment to your life. Wishing you a weekend filled with whatever makes you feel most luxurious! 😊💖
@@CalebSnell also to follow up on the “experience” aspect as well. I’m fortunate to have a LV SA who is completely on my wavelength and endeavors to make every visit a special memory, even if I’ve expressly indicated I’m not buying that visit. Service is an integral part of luxury shopping for me, without it it’s just another bag. The service forms an emotional and luxurious attachment to the item ❤️❤️ Well done and thanks for making those memories for people 👏🏻👏🏻
To me, luxury is a feeling, not necessarily a price tag. Does the piece feel elevated aesthetically? Does the build quality feel durable af? Is there something unique & extraordinary about the materials? I’ve gotten these feelings from thrifted pieces, as well as higher end stuff. Coach feels like an in-between, hybrid luxury brand. Some Coach pieces feel p cheap, while others feel more “luxurious” cuz of a bold design, quality materials, solid construction etc. My Coach retail Gotham backpack feels luxurious to me. My $100 Coach outlet carryall pouch also feels luxurious, even with at low-ish price point. Both of these pieces feel sturdy and high quality af, and like they’d last a lifetime with basic upkeep. At the end of the day, I want stuff that’s gorgeous & won’t fall apart in like 30 seconds lol. Whether it was expensive or exclusive really doesn’t matter to me.
You've beautifully captured the essence of luxury! It's not just about the price tag but rather about the feeling of elevated aesthetics, durable build quality, and unique materials. It's fantastic that you've found pieces from Coach that evoke that luxurious sensation for you, whether it's a high-end retail purchase or a more affordable outlet find. What matters most is that the items feel sturdy, high-quality, and capable of lasting a lifetime, regardless of their price or exclusivity. Thanks for sharing your insightful perspective-it's all about finding beauty and durability in the things that bring us joy!
This is excellent content. Like you, I am a former Coach employee, and I have asked myself this same question: is Coach STILL a luxury brand? I worked at the Coach store in 1996 right out of college. I started in the outlet in Woodbury Commons in NYS, then transferred to Atlanta, GA. Back then, Coach quality felt superb. I have mixed feelings about Coach now. But, I still have three purses from the 90's that I still enjoy.
Thank you! Coach in the late 90's had to be so much fun! I love a lot of the designs and collections from that time period - so many good and high quality pieces!
I don't care if it's not considered luxury. I'd actually like to keep their prices semi-affordable because they make really good leather products. I recently bought a Coach Henry and Coach Hudson backpack. I couldn't find anything near its price with the same quality that isn't from some obscure brand. Other brands like Prada, Gucci and Saint Laurent are charging more for nylon backpacks with inferior quality. I think what's dragging Coach down are some of the lower quality models here and there, particularly those you see at the outlets. But models like those from the 1941 line are very nicely made, like it's from an upper tier brand. I bought my mom and sister a couple of them over the years such as the Swagger 27, the Hutton shoulder, the Dinky to name a few. They're all holding up well with only leather conditioner as maintenance once every several months. Mind you, they do have Hermes and Chanels, but they still use their Coach bags.
Your experience with Coach highlights the importance of prioritizing quality over brand name or price tag. It's fantastic to hear that you've found Coach's leather products to be of exceptional quality and value, especially compared to some higher-priced alternatives from other luxury brands. The 1941 line, in particular, seems to excel in craftsmanship and durability, making it a worthwhile investment. It's great to know that your mom and sister continue to enjoy their Coach bags alongside their higher-end options. Thank you for sharing your positive experiences-it's a reminder that true luxury isn't always defined by the label, but rather by the quality and satisfaction the product brings.
I loved this video. Let's start being honest on TH-cam - most youtubers are now just label snobs, only wear bags because of the label (I.e. if offered 2 bags of the same style, the logo would determine which one they pick, not the quality/leather) and try to outdo each other. Even the jonses can't keep up with the jonses 😂
It’s not luxury, because their products aren’t overpriced. Their leather quality and craftsmanship is on par with products from LVMH and Kering. Only difference is that Coach doesn’t overcharges. Their products are luxury. Their prices are mass-market.
An idiotic and elitist answer lol. Obviously you’re not in the real world where 500 - 900 for a bag is a super big deal, given inflation and cost of living.
Coach is definitely luxury. People disagree because they want to separate themselves from things that are more affordable and available to the masses. It’s giving hater energy 😂. Loved this video Caleb!
Caleb well done , I love your perspective and comments about quality that’s extremely important my two big points for spending my money anywhere is quality and customer service. I’m glad to hear your perspective thanks for video 👛🛍️🚢🙏🦆
I'm really glad you connected with my perspective! Quality and customer service are non-negotiables for me too when it comes to spending my hard-earned money. There's something about feeling appreciated as a customer and knowing you're getting top-notch quality that just makes the whole experience so much better, right? Thanks for watching the video and for sharing your thoughts-it's awesome to connect with like-minded folks who value the same things! 🛍️🥰
Even if the word luxury is never used, my experiences in Coach stores and Coach Factory stores have always been lovely. My positive experiences make me want to purchase more. The styles make me want more. I have leather, coated canvas and fabric bags and I love them all. Even when I have ordered from the website, it has been nice. The bags have held up nicely (one leather Coach bag I have is 30 years old). I have Fendi, Gucci, and LV. I still love Coach and will continue to purchase.
Your positive experiences with Coach stores and their products speak volumes about the brand's commitment to customer satisfaction and quality. It's wonderful to hear that you've had consistently lovely experiences, whether in-store or online, and that your Coach bags have stood the test of time-even lasting for 30 years! Your collection spanning across various materials and styles underscores the versatility and enduring appeal of Coach's designs.
Yes, time is luxury. I agree. Just because the price is high don’t make it luxury. The quality of the handbag makes it a luxury. Yes, I agree. You shouldn’t have to feel less than. I have to agree, Coach quality is not what it used to be, but neither is Chanel. The vintage bags are better. 😊
Extravagant for one person is different for another depending on where you are. I am glad you read the definition of luxury because some people see it as extravagant only in their eyes. These are the TH-camrs who can afford more high end brands.
I love that Coach x Eagle NYC tote you have in the back! I wanted one but it sold out quick! Anyways I own a gazillion Coach items so i consider them a luxury brand but the items i own are more of their high end stuff like shearling jackets and Coats, i have the B3 shearling from the 2015 collection, the reversible shearling parka (the cordovan nylon outer with the shearling interior that reverses into the shearling teddy, another shearling reversible hoodie which retailed for $2000-$2800 (i biught them as samples though) and two of their Chesterfield coats (the navy and tan colors that retailed for $800), i also have their Bleecker Backpack and the bleecker racer jacket.
Well said! It's so interesting how every area of collecting is different. I'm more of a fragrance collector and "luxury" really isn't a factor in that. The quality of a fragrance is the biggest factor in my mind. When it comes to bags I look for the same thing and a well made, beautiful bag is something enjoyable to own. The name on the bag is really irrelevant.
That's a really good way to approach buying a bag. Quality and design is my most important factor. The name and price don't play as big of a role in my decision making.
The most "luxurious" experiences I got were in Hermès, Cartier and Delvaux! But that doesn't mean I don't love my Coach bags because I like all 3 ❤. In Belgium we only have 1 dedicated Coach store and it is a Coach outlet.
I've had a fabulous experience at the Delvaux boutique in Brussels. And that's interesting to know that the only Coach store there is a factory outlet!
Great video Caleb! I really liked your point about the service/treatment and how that could be a factor in what is considered luxurious. I started buying Coach in the late 1900s as the kids say, not once did I receive a thank you card and I honestly can’t remember anything being packaged up nicely. Maybe that’s just how things are out here but oddly for how unimpressed I am with my local LV boutique that is the one thing they do, send a follow up thank you text/email and the way you receive your purchase seems a little extra. I do agree the price does not equate luxury there are more and more niche brands out there with luxury materials giving Chanel etc a run for their (or my ?) money. That quality, service etc will be the key to what I consider luxury to me.
It's awesome to hear your perspective, and I totally get what you mean about the little touches making a big difference. It's those personal touches like a follow-up thank you or beautifully packaged purchases that can really elevate the experience, right? It's like those moments add an extra layer of luxury that goes beyond just the product itself. And you're spot on about quality and service being the real gems in the luxury world. It's those brands that prioritize those aspects that truly win our hearts. Thanks for sharing your thoughts-it's always cool to hear how others navigate the world of luxury! 🛍️🥂
Someone i know who doesnt buy expensive bags told me Coach is luxury. Another friend of mine who only has really expensive bags like Chanel looks down on Coach as a luxury brand. Funny thing is Coach quality is superb in comparison to all other "luxury" brands. I've had Dior, YSL, Gucci bags that are 7 to 10x the price of my Coach bags.....but the quality is pretty much the same. Also whenever i go to a Coach store the sales reps are so helpful and not snobby. Went to a high end non-Coach brand store in Paris....the sales person was such a snob. That, is NOT luxury.
Good points. Luxury is an imprecise definition. Although I agree that many things are not arguable - 1+ 1 always equals 2 - a definition of luxury can never be definitive. Thank you for the video.
Absolutely, defining luxury can be quite challenging due to its subjective nature. While some concepts, like mathematics, are clear-cut, luxury is indeed open to interpretation and can vary greatly from person to person. Thank you for watching!
I think luxury is the eye of the beholder. I do think, however, that creating products for an outlet of lower quality greatly diminishes the brand. Gucci does that as well, but not to the extent of Coach. I understand that is good for a bottom line dollar, but it really does diminish the brand. The only Coach bag I like is the Rogue, and I love it. Their other designs just don't do much for me. Still, if something makes you feel good and it's something that you don't need, to me it's a luxury.
You make an excellent point about how the perception of luxury can vary from person to person. It's true that brand image can be impacted when products of lower quality are introduced, potentially diluting the essence of the brand. However, it's great to hear that you've found a Coach bag you truly love in the Rogue! At the end of the day, luxury is indeed about what brings us joy and makes us feel good, regardless of brand or design. Thanks for sharing your thoughtful perspective!
Hi Caleb, I started my Herme’s journey last year and I have collected quite a bit of their products but I still love Coach and continued to buy Coach even during my journey. I also own some LV, Gucci and Chanel purses but I still consider Coach and other brands like TB, and Strathberry to be luxury. Granted not all their items give that luxury feel but so does other high end brands. I enjoy carrying Coach as much as Herme’s (although I don’t have any of their quota bags yet). Thank you for this discussion.
I like that both companies stand behind their products ❤❤. To me that speaks volumes about Coach and Hermes. I like that their products are timeless. I also love that their bags are work horses
Thank you so much! Both H and Coach have pretty good after sales care, which is important to me. I hope you have fun on your H journey! Are you hoping for a Birkin or Kelly?
Isn't "Luxury" subjective? It depends on your finance situation. A person making $30K a year would/might think buying a $300 bag as luxury but not for someone making $250K.
Coach is beautiful I don't care if they are luxury or not. They aren't cheap either. I bought a 700 dollar one and it's quality is spectacular. I love collecting coach bags.
Those saying that words matter, and if you call everything luxury, then nothing is luxury make me wonder ... what meaning can the word "luxury" have to them in this context if you can pay $3,000 for something and have it chipping or peeling in a short amount of time, or flawed from the get-go. "Luxury" shouldn't be a status a brand earns once and has forever regardless of whether it produces garbage or not, it has to be continually earned, imo. I like how Autumn framed it, in that Coach is not a 'luxury house' in the most common sense of the term, but it does make some luxury pieces. On the flip side, some luxury houses make some decidedly not luxurious pieces. And in those cases, like Dacob said, it's really only exclusivity via price holding up that 'luxury' label. And yes, as you point out, spending $550 on a bag to carry your stuff (the price of the Coach piece that's currently my favorite) is a luxury, and even in terms of accessibility, is still out of the range of the average person. But Coach also makes bags that cost $100 which the average person can afford. So Coach as a brand makes both luxury and non-luxury pieces. I recently bought my first LV piece, from the boutique! And when I went to pick it up, the hole was not punched in the strap, so you couldn't buckle it at that point. So this 'luxury' house did not have enough quality control to prevent this, and even though I mentioned to the SA "okay, once you see it and let me know everything's okay", they obviously didn't look to make sure the bag was in good condition either. Is this the "luxury"? I've never bought a bag from Coach, or Target for that matter, that failed to have its hole punched. In the end, then, it must be just as Connor said it, it's basically the price and that that makes it hard to acquire.
You bring up some excellent points about the evolving meaning of "luxury" in today's context. It's true that the word loses its significance if it's applied indiscriminately, especially when some high-priced items fail to meet quality standards. Luxury should indeed be something earned through consistent quality and craftsmanship, rather than just a label attached to a price tag. Autumn's framing of Coach as a brand that produces both luxury and non-luxury pieces resonates well, highlighting the diversity within the brand's offerings. Similarly, Dacob's observation about some luxury houses producing decidedly non-luxurious pieces underscores the importance of looking beyond the label. Your experience with LV's quality control issue raises valid concerns about whether the price alone justifies the "luxury" label. It's disappointing when brands fall short in ensuring product integrity, regardless of their reputation or price point. Ultimately, as Connor pointed out, the exclusivity via price often plays a significant role in upholding the "luxury" label. However, accessibility shouldn't be overlooked, and brands like Coach offering a range of price points make luxury more attainable for a wider audience. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful insights and experiences-it's a reminder to critically examine what truly defines luxury in today's market.
My 200 dollar collector super hero bag keeps ripping and its the second time I'll have to have it fixed lol just lucky my mommy gifts me every few years with a luxury coach ❤️
I love my coach my sister was coach SA so know you are talk about I love coach they remember my birthday I would buy the coach Demin over LV Demin this so high school mean girl we just be happy for everyone i do not put hate comment if someone says only buy hermes and coach is so low end the i love your RL rick bag as much as your Hermes brink but this so high school fashion is for everyone it just sad when a young lady get a frist bag from dad and she was so happy and people were saying it not hermes it so high school it sad
Yes, for me Coach is luxury! It's a relative term to begin with, but my definition is : an object or experience that comes at a price times higher than what's widely available and easily accessible, but has a great quality and unique selling points. When it comes to bags, that is beautiful design, longevity and attention to details. I don't like loud branding and trendy design so Coach hits all the marks. My priorities have never been focused on ownership of status objects and I find the prices for high end bags and goods ridiculous - I will always choose to spend that amount on traveling or on my home. I'd rather wear a basic bag and shoes in another country than stay in one place with my luxury items. For the price of a Coach bag I can get a new kitchen appliance or a weekend on a budget in Italy. So choosing to buy the bag instead is luxury. It almost feels silly to do that 😂 But I've recently purchased a small cross body and a tote and I'm loving them and the idea they will last. I feel like the quality of more expensive items is not necessarily better and the mark up is just to get the privilege of wearing a certain designer. It's just a matter of disposable income, personal style and social environment.
Absolutely! Your perspective on luxury resonates deeply with me. It's all about quality, unique selling points, and the ability to choose what brings joy and fulfillment into our lives. I completely understand prioritizing experiences like traveling or investing in your home over high-end status symbols. At the end of the day, it's about what makes us happy and aligns with our values. Your recent purchases from Coach sound like fantastic choices, and I'm glad they're bringing you joy and satisfaction. Here's to finding luxury in the things that truly matter to us!
No, it's not luxury. There is a difference between what someone considers a personal luxury, and how we use the term in a broader way. Luxury for all intents and purposes refers to goods from a specific set of designers (usually heritage houses or individual designers, like Phoebe Philo, who made their careers at heritage houses), and these goods generally have a higher than average price point. Coach is lovely, but it is firmly contemporary. One of my favorite professors used to say, "if you include everything, you include nothing.". Definitions matter. Language matters. We can't impose personal definitions on the whole because someone got their feelings hurt when told that Coach isn't luxury.
That's an interesting point about inclusion. However, I still stand by the idea that "luxury" is too broad of a term. Does scarcity help a brand lean more into the exclusivity of luxury? Sure. But I'm sure there's more to it than that.
Loved this conversation. I think Coach is trying to rebrand as Lux, but there are Levels to the ish. Coach is American Contemporary and mid level luxury to the middle class class and Upper Middle class.
Coach is not luxury, it’s contemporary, and there is nothing wrong with that, it’s still a great brand but we should not pretend it’s equal to high end.
No, Coach is not luxury. I am tired of everything must be equal. Porsche & Skoda are both automobile brands, but one is luxury. I went into the Coach "boutique" in Chicago on the Magnificent Mile to see what people are talking about. it was dingy, the sales people were all chatting to each other and it looked like a tornado had blown through there. Luxury is exceptional and not everything is. Why can't we just be honest about different tiers?
I appreciate your perspective! It's true that not all brands or experiences are created equal, and it's okay to acknowledge different tiers or levels within industries. Luxury is indeed about exceptional experiences and products that stand out. While Coach might not meet everyone's definition of luxury, it's important to recognize and respect that perceptions can vary. Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts-it's through open dialogue that we can better understand and appreciate the diversity within the concept of luxury. 🥰✨
Well in fairness Chanel is garbage now. So how can we quantify Chanel as luxury, when Coach actually has better quality on a lot of their bags? LV also has quality issues. Sure the boutique experience might be better at Chanel and Vuitton than Coach, but that isn't everything. I think luxury is the eye of the beholder. I don't like Coach (except the Rogue bag) and I don't like Chanel at all. But, if something makes you feel good, then it's luxury. I love Vuitton, Gucci and Dior. Hands down my three favorites, but you'll never catch me spending a dime on Chanel. Boring designs and crap quality, for an insane price.
Well that's your opinion. To many of others, myself included, Coach is still a fairly luxurious product with high quality pieces. Like Caleb, I also get outstanding service everytime I go into a Coach store, I can't say the same about other boutiques. I literally walked into a Versace store last week and the lady didn't even know what the products were called or what was new season/not.
@@jvg0010 In context of the conversation, Coach does not meet the characteristics of what a luxury handbag brand is. As @Sanguine Hearts wrote very well in the comments ...""if you include everything, you include nothing.". Definitions matter. Language matters. We can't impose personal definitions on the whole because someone got their feelings hurt when told that Coach isn't luxury."
@@jvg0010 I thought I was clear about handbag brands... not all are created equal. On point 2, I was quoting someone else's comment and perhaps should have excluded that last sentence.
Ps was the eagle tote an American exclusive??? They denied it ever existing to me 😢 I do agree tho they are VERY nice. I only had one bad coach experience
Anything with logos isn't a luxury item, it's just a marketing strategy to make the middle class think that they could look rich by buying an overpriced mediocre quality bag while serving as walking advertisements to more middle class people with no education on quality feel envy. Luxury could be find at those stores if you are looking for design and you have an understanding about quality in materials, but it's very far between. Also carrying monograms doesn't mean having style, nowadays it only identifies you as a victim of marketing.
These brands are all aimed at poor people who are seeking a sense of status. The wealthy and super-rich don’t care about them. These companies target those who want to find worth in material things. Don’t fall into that trap. To me, the only true luxury is a firearm-because luxury means something that’s both powerful and durable. A firearm has practical value, and both the rich and poor understand the worth of a high-quality weapon.
Let me know your thoughts on this discussion!
I couldn't agree more with your point of classism and exclusion. I think this debate is a prime example of that.
@@bambooprincess3495 Coach is not a Luxury product today, but was in the 60's and early 70''s. Craftsmanship as sorely diminished today.
THIS. ❤
It’s simply MID. 😂 not luxury at all
Luxury is in the eye of the beholder.
Thank you, Crystal- you nailed it with this comment!
Absolutely brilliant, spot on comment
IMO, if anything is unnecessary to your day to day living, that is a luxury. Spending $500 on a bag is a luxury that not all in life will experience.
That's a really good point!
100%
Wow. There are no lies in your statement.
A $600 bag IS luxury, Coach is definitely considered luxury.
Btw you should share videos of your bag collection! Sounds awesome!
I have a LV and I have never carried it
Yeah as a lv fanatic once I found out what I was actually paying for ,I said hell to the nooo ,I then turned to coach ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ ...
“Do we need it? No. Then it’s a luxury.” I think that sums it up for me!
Exactly! 💯
my rogue bag was $1,100! my tabby 33 $900!! this is luxury for these prices. and those who look down at coach are snobs. I appreciate that coach has kept many bags affordable for people while offering quality and appeal.
You're so right- that's what I love about Coach, there's something for everyone!
Luxury is a taxation term for imports. Luxury is anything not a necessity. Luxury is subjective, Luxury as a good is for taxation!
Interesting perspective! Luxury certainly has its roots in taxation and the classification of goods. It's true that what's considered a luxury can vary widely depending on context and personal perspective. Thanks for sharing your insights!
Great perspective on the debate Caleb!
I definitely agree about it being very personal and doesn't have to just mean the high end brands!
That's a really good point- nothing is worth more than your time or good health!
Really appreciate your insight on this, Caleb. I even have Coach Outlet bags that make me feel luxurious. I agree -- it's all about mindset.
Thank you, Julia! You're right, it's all about mindset and what makes you feel good!
Love seeing all these different opinions 😊
Me too!
Hi Jamie! I think it’s really cool that Coach was a gateway for many of us just getting started!
Exactly!,

You nailed it with this comment! 💯
Luxury is always going to be a moving target as we progress through life ❤❤
Happy weekend lovers 🙂
The service forms an emotional and luxurious attachment to the item ❤️❤️
Well done and thanks for making those memories for people 👏🏻👏🏻
To me, luxury is a feeling, not necessarily a price tag.
I love how you wrap up this discussion . . .that at the end of the day, they're just handbags. So true! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Thank you! It's true- bags are fun to collect and obsess over, but there's so much more to life to worry about!
Thank you, Alyson! It's so true!
Great perspective and informative topic! I don’t own a lot of Coach at the moment but I would agree that it is a Luxury brand.
Thank you, Shery!
It’s not luxury, because their products aren’t overpriced. Their leather quality and craftsmanship is on par with products from LVMH and Kering. Only difference is that Coach doesn’t overcharges. Their products are luxury. Their prices are mass-market.
Thanks for weighing in!
What an answer ❤
An idiotic and elitist answer lol. Obviously you’re not in the real world where 500 - 900 for a bag is a super big deal, given inflation and cost of living.
Coach is definitely luxury. People disagree because they want to separate themselves from things that are more affordable and available to the masses. It’s giving hater energy 😂. Loved this video Caleb!
Thank you, Tiffany!!
I absolutely enjoyed your video on this subject too Sis. You made some great points.🥰
You're absolutely right, Candace! And vintage bags are definitely where it's at!
Extravagant for one person is different for another depending on where you are. I am glad you read the definition of luxury because some people see it as extravagant only in their eyes. These are the TH-camrs who can afford more high end brands.
Thank you, Renee! I think it's important to reframe the term luxury as it gets thrown around so often.
I wish we were having this same conversation about Dooney and Bourke, I think they have the best leather but it's a forgotten brand.
Hi Tamika! I couldn't agree more- I love Dooney and sadly, they get slept on a lot. My vintage Dooneys are some of my favorite bags!
Coach is a luxury. Thanks for your POV and Perspective ❤
Thank you so much!
I love it!! It sounds like you have a great collection!
That's so true, Catherine! Coach really does make some great pieces, and I love using the ones I have in my collection!
@@CalebSnell yes I am hoping for both, I’m taking it slow until I can afford them 😅
I like your take on perspective. I think the definition of luxury depends on who is asking.
Thank you, Teresa!
Isn't "Luxury" subjective? It depends on your finance situation. A person making $30K a year would/might think buying a $300 bag as luxury but not for someone making $250K.
That's such a good point!
Caleb. I agree with you 100%. Glad you did this video.
Thank you, Kris! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Coach is beautiful I don't care if they are luxury or not. They aren't cheap either. I bought a 700 dollar one and it's quality is spectacular. I love collecting coach bags.
I totally agree!
Thank you for sharing this video. I buy Coach Louis Vuitton and Gucci but I just love coach specially in 2024.

Excellent perspective, it really does depend on your reality and perspective. And therefore Coach can also be a luxury. Great video, thanks
Thank you, Hanne! I completely agree!
Wow, thanks for the thoughtful reply! @@CalebSnell
coach vintage/1941 line is LUXURY for sure.
LV, chanel, etc are designers. overpriced. phony.
I agree- a high price doesn't necessarily indicate high quality!
Yes, everything you said. The best I have heard so far.
Thank you, Renee!
loved this vid! 💛🧡💛🧡
Thank you!
@@CalebSnell absolutely!
Wow! Fun and informative conversation. I enjoyed hearing a former employee's perspective. Thank you for taking the time to give your view on luxury. ❤
Thank you, Joel!
It's definitely a high-end brand, without the overly hyped exaggerated price. My dad would say, same wine different bottle😅
I agree! I think there is definitely a place for it in a closet.
My 200 dollar collector super hero bag keeps ripping and its the second time I'll have to have it fixed lol just lucky my mommy gifts me every few years with a luxury coach ❤️
Oh no! And that's really sweet of her!

Thank you, Hamid! Coach really is a great design house!
I just found your channel and I love it 🎉
Thank you! I’m glad you found me!
I love Coach no matter what it is!
Same!
It almost feels silly to do that 😂
But I've recently purchased a small cross body and a tote and I'm loving them and the idea they will last.
All "luxury" brands are a scam
Coach might not be a luxury, but their quality is very very good.
That’s the truth!
my coach bags have better than quality than my lv pochette metis and chanel mini flap.
Right?! I feel the same way about some of mine!
Does it matter?
It’s a conversation that I’m afraid we’ll never know the answer to.
Nailed it!! Awesome video Caleb.
Thank you, Millisa!
The quality is there for sure
💯
Back in the 60's and 70's, I think Coach was a much better product than now.
Oh for sure!
Great perspective on this topic.
Thank you!
300.00 dollar purse is luxury!!!👏👏
100!! I couldn’t agree more!
Coach and Michael Kors are categorized as affordable designer brands. They are in no way considered luxury.
Great perspective ❤😊
Thank you, Kaylhee!
@CalebSnell your welcome, hope you and Zane have a great valentine's day! 😊 ❤️
Loved this conversation. I think Coach is trying to rebrand as Lux, but there are Levels to the ish. Coach is American Contemporary and mid level luxury to the middle class class and Upper Middle class.
I agree- there's definitely a spectrum to luxury brands- I meant to include that in my video and forgot. I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
Well done! 👍
Thank you!
Hmmmm, I would consider Coach more of a mainstream/wear to work/suburban family, let’s go to Disney brand..
Haha- the Disney Land comment got me!
❤❤❤
Thank you!!
To me Luxury is Bespoke.
That’s a good idea of luxury!
I finally sold the denim tabbyy!!! Ps current coach employees are the only ones thinking its luxury still lol
Ps was the eagle tote an American exclusive??? They denied it ever existing to me 😢 I do agree tho they are VERY nice. I only had one bad coach experience
It might have been! I know only about 500 were made, so I got incredibly lucky snagging mine!
I like Coach bags for everyday. Luxury?? Don't know quite frankly!?!?
Thank you, Estrella!
Coach is not luxury high end brand. It’s Contemporary brand like Michael Kors, Tory Burch or Brahmin.
Thank you for sharing your perspective!
