    Emma, please don’t keep your compost up against your shed, the shed boards will rot away.

    Oh my goodness, you can watch a thousand channels ranging from bad to passable but it’s a rare day when you find an absolute gem like this. You are so naturally funny Emma and don’t make me feel like an absolute duffus for not knowing everything. I feel like I can go into my garden for the first time since I abandoned everything when life hit me so very hard 6 years ago and my interest in it went away and feel hope x

    Staple some thick plastic sheeting against the shed to prevent the compost rotting the side of the shed away. Take it under the compost and anchor in place with some bricks to keep it all in place

    So refreshing. New subscriber. I started growing 3 years ago too. I love that your videos are real with disasters and little trips, it makes it so relatable. There's a lot to admire, just getting on with it and having a go. The little tree stump - I've got a one of those coming up through concrete, a nightmare to get rid of it just won't die and I won't use chemicals so just keep cutting down. Looking forward to seeing more. Love that your trying seeds in February that say April on the packet. I'm gonna try that too.

    Just discovered your channel recently and love it.
    The tree growing in your patio is probably a Sycamore, a pernicious weed! It has the helicopter blade type seed which gets everywhere and once established difficult to remove as you demonstrated.
    Cut the tough stuff (compost) into small pieces, bag it and throw away.
    Keep the good work up and I'm looking forward to your next video.

    Hi Emma, your coir will need more water, I find it best to leave for 30 minutes or more in a heap of water, then strain out. With the Blueberries they love a High Acid soil to thrive - best planted in an Azelea potting mix only and they will thrive and give you a good harvest. I have 5 plants in pots and when in season can pick a heap daily.

    Happy Birthday Emma. I personally would not put the compost against the shed, as when it starts to rot down, so will your shed. I had that with a previous neighbour, which ruined my summer house. Get some loppers for the tree branches, you will not regret it.

    Fab video Emma. When you grow verbena, they take ages to germinate, don’t lose hope. 🙂 Put them in a big group a few inches from each other in all directions. This is the best bit…. Every February chop them right down to about 6” and they always come back stronger than ever each year. I LOVE them and so do the bees and butterflies. Mine get to 5 ft.❤️❤️🌻🌷

    Another year around the sun Emma, we love the sun here, have another great year around this lovely sun (when it decides to come out!)
    As for feedback on today's VLOG - it's one of your best ones yet, natural, fun (i chuckled aloud at least half a dozen times) and informative.
    Make sure you re-label those seeds in the cellophaned tray in the outdoor greenhouse as the paper will rot down and then you'll have to play the old "what the heck did i plant here game"
    I've been cutting up some strips from old plastic bottles and using a marker pen - cheap as chips for labelling stuff and less for landfill.
    So grab that camera more often, the best vids are the spontaneous ones!

    Many herbs are perennial: the mints, thyme, rosemary, sage, and a bunch of others.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY Emma! Yes to roses....one of my favorite - well...one among my many favorites. Love your backyard garden too! There's always 'bits' of interest in your vlogs Emma, especially your humor! Things will take a bit longer to germinate when there's no additional warmth but those plants will be super hardy. Enjoyed the video - thanks for sharing! Be well - many blessings! Cheers...

    Don't let your compost heap dry out, keep moist in dry spells and maybe keep covered, old carpet is good, also a good plan to turn it out occasionally putting the top back in first, hard work but rewarding

  • @astraaj435
    @astraaj435 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding that brown spongy thing - when I use those pressed and dried bricks of turf, I'd soak them in water for at least half an hour or up to an hour and then there is no need to smash them - you can just stir it and use like a liquid fertilizer (not really a compost because it's liquid then).
    And happy birthday 🎂 (it's my birthday also this week 😊).
    And about blueberries 🫐 there are really variety of them - I can't promise the proper names of them but there are larger and smaller fruit, later or earlier crop, sweet or tart by the taste. There is to choose from. I hadn't big success yet - I did plant it on my allotment but it doesn't feel doing well. I've researched conditions and stuff. They say easy to grow but still not my case..

  • @fergusdangerfield156
    @fergusdangerfield156 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Emma. I hope youhad a lovely birthday. You will find your blueberry will do better with some ericaceous or slightly acid compost or soil with a slightly lower PH. Good luck with it. I had a pub lunch for my birthday today xx.

    1.Oregano?
    2.Cosmos are the best! 🌺🌺🌼🌸🌸🌸💐💐💐
    3. Coco-Coir - just go and have a cuppa and it will be done. Yes it wanted x2 water. I mix it 50/50 with multipurpose compost for seeds as I overwater. Be warned it drains freely, not much goodness in it but good enough for starting seeds.

    The bendy tree 🤭🤣🤣🤣. The garden waste may rot your shed and fence quicker than it makes compost. Some councils have free compost bins available. Bring you garden shears home, cut up what’s in the corner and place in bin with rest of garden waste. Like you have done on allotment.

    • @ivormarshall1670
      @ivormarshall1670 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spread my chunky garden waste out on the lawn and use my electric lawn mower that cuts it up small in no time. I use to take it to rhe allotment when I had one The council collect some of our garden waste costs £50 a year. This week I did rhe cutting a big bag of chopped up tough twigs half the size of a wheeley bin I am going to use it in my flower tubs so I have 2/3rds of chopped up twigs and 1/3rd diy compost a 66% saving. worked a treat in previous years. Re CATS the pollen from lillies is also dangerous for many animals when they lick it boff their fur. Website for Cats/Lillies are full of warnings. Tulip bulbs are highly toxic which is why when planting you should keep dogs and especially a puppy away, until they are firmly planted. Cats keep away from them and will not eat them. If ingested they will cause vomiting diarrhoea and if not taken to a vet in time possibly death.
