Hi, I'm Maggie and I have Crohn's disease. I am thrilled to be here sharing my personal experiences with Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as living with an ostomy. I'm proud to share a little bit from a clinical experience as well, having worked as a GI pediatric nurse and ostomy telehealth nurse. I am so glad you are here. ♥ #ostomy #ibd #chronicillness

If you have a primary care doctor ask them if they do routine pelvic exams and PAP smears. Mine did and it worked out for me. Also see if your GI is willing to make the referral to the Dermatologist from his office. Sometimes that will work when a patient calling for an appointment doesn't.

I don't know if this would make sense for you but people use coconut water as a base for smoothies. It would be a drinkable way to get in your calories and maybe dilute the salt even more so you don't taste it.

my doctor just recommended that eat salty snacks to increase my sodium, which i think makes more sense than adding it to a drink, that is if you can handle having the salty snacks. I just started getting those variety boxes of chips with the little bags and i would eat one or two of those a day.

There is such a health care crisis in this country. Even if you don’t have any special health issues, it’s hard to get a doctor or dentist to see you. The older ones are retiring at such a rapid rate and no one seems to be in the wings to take their place.

THe "annoyingness" of life makes me smile. Finding a good health care team is difficult. Recently I was told that ALL the female dermatologists in my area were no longer taking new patients. I've had to go to Philly for some needs when it's almost a 1 and 1/2 hour drive one way. Getting through on the phone, too, to a doctor's office is also an obstacle course. No human beings on the other end of the line it seems. Then when you get disconnected after being put on hold for 15 minutes! I'm only glad to hear that I'm not alone in my frustration. I wish you all the best---your input has helped me get through the last year of my life.

Medical appointment fatigue is real 😥 When I do finally get in for appointments I do make future appointments at the same time. It's hard if you don't live in a metro area with lots of choices or are limited by your insurance carrier. I feel for you!

    • @jimjam4082

I have chron's and live in a metro area in Pa, it's not really any better here. Yes there are more doctor options but they are all overbooked and usually understaffed. Anytime i need to see a specialist for one thing or another, i have to call my PCP and book an appointment and wait weeks to get a referral to a specialist which often takes months waiting to be seen. I have chron's, arthritis, and psoriasis the autoimmune trifecta lol. I tried to see a specialist for the arthritis and had to go to PCP for a referral they also wanted a blood test done before they would take the referral. i spend weeks on waiting for the specialist to deny seeing me because the test came back negative for arthritis even though they know the biologic I was on would throw false negatives on that test. wait another week to be reseen by PCP where they refer me to the pain clinic, wait a month and a half to be seen there, they send me to hospital for walk in x-rays, wait 2 more weeks to go back to pain clinic for them to tell me i have arthritis in both knees and hips. They put me on gabapentin (these things kept me sleepy all the time) and wanted to schedule doing x-ray guided shots into my joints which would of been another month-ish out and i just gave up and stopped going. When you got limited spoons, you don't want to waste them on going to doctor offices to be jerked around and rejected or treated like a moron

You might ask your dr. about taking salt pills (Sodium Chloride) rather than putting it in your drinks. I spent a couple of days in the hospital about a month ago after my routine lab work came back that my sodium levels were critically low. I felt fine, but my doc called me at home that evening & told me to go to the ER now & it took a couple of days of IV saline & salt pills to get it into the normal range again. My discharge papers said to take 2 salt tablets a day (AM & PM) & my PCP concurred that he also wanted me to do that. I couldn't find salt pills at my nearest pharmacy, so I ordered a bottle from Amazon that came the next day, much easier than running all over town in my quest for salt pills! They found another of my meds was acting as a diuretic & depleting my sodium, so it was discontinued & my sodium leveled out. I'd rather take a salt pill then try & force down too salty foods & drink.

I am one of your subscribers that is extremely sick and recently got, or had to have an emergency Iliostomy, but it has nothing to do with cancer, Crohn’s disease or any of those. It’s actually a severe back injury and all the surgeries I’ve had paralyzed my colon main test in my stomach And finally my colon just would not put anything out at all so I went in for emergency surgery but the one person you did not call is for your wisdom teeth to be removed and that’s the call. I think that I would say is the most important and that you do need to get it taken care of so please call them and get it over with, they might actually see you sooner than the doctors because this is a different situation altogether they’re not doctors in that sense they probably have more openings for people who, like you need to have surgical teeth removal specially, when your wisdom teeth are just not the best of circumstances so I’ve had it done. Have them give you laughing gas And just get it done. Make sure they give you pain meds for afterwards and my only other tab is mashed potatoes and frozen yogurt. Those are my two best friends and I eat them often and they were both really really good are usually got chocolate and vanilla swirl soft frozen yogurt, so something to look forward to if you get it done inside any kind of soft yummy food you love just my very motherly opinion honey call and get that appointment. Lol.🤭👍❤️❌❤️❌❣️❣️❣️

They put me out very briefly for my impacted and decayed wisdom teeth to have 3 extracted. Make sure you have lots of soft foods, soups etc to eat. No spicy food. Ibuprofen worked for me even though they gave me Vicodin after for home. Also, Make sure you check if you should have antibiotics. Because not being able to swish your mouth due to possible clots getting loose will give you dry socket and that's Hella painful 😫. Having your immune system always compromised because of your chronic condition etc, make you more susceptible to get infected surgery site in your mouth. I was able to gently tilt my head side to side to get salt water to move around inside my mouth, rather than swish and spit vigorously like normal after brushing. Plus make sure you change your gauze after you eat and drink anything (unless it's water). Good luck

My body doesn't retain sodium properly and this is the best way I have found to keep my levels high enough without wishing to never drink again like the hydrolyte style sodium drinks. I want to see the doctor and not a nurse. So I managed to get them to call me back today. My appt is in late January. Kinda what I expected but will serve as my annual appt. I’m trying to make the rounds too and set appts to see if I can start feeling better. My old GYN took me back- appt is in Oct. But so often these people leave and you have to play the game again- appts for new patients are ALWAYS a super long wait. 🥺. And I need a dermatologist too. Gonna try the one I went to maybe 6 years ago (if they take my insurance!)

Actually that's how I started and my insurance didn't cover fully ): I actually prefer going to a clinic now - it was starting to make my house feel very "medically"

You only need a pinch of pink Himalayan salt in your bottle of water and it will taste great and you won’t even notice that it’s there but you don’t need to put the salt in the coconut water

I'm in the same boat. My psychologist retired July and it's been a nightmare trying to find new doctors especially right now. And especially because in my case I have a lot of medical abuse resonated trauma on top of my mental and chronic illnesses and it's so overwhelming. I have a list of drs that are covered for each of the drs I need to set up with (also need a new pcp and gyno). But so many have horrific reviews online and the ones that don't just have no reviews at all so idek if they are legit or not. It's just so overwhelming and exhausting I wish there was an easier way.

The American healthcare system is so fragmented. The concept of your Primary Care physician coordinating other care is a myth.

I do not see how you can afford going to any doctor, a 5 min. appointment of nothing cost over 450.00

How about health insurance? Should cover most of costs especially for PCP…

I enjoy your podcast because it is informative and, at the same time seems to establish a personal relationship with your viewers. However, stopping in the middle of a sentence to pay attention to one of your dogs seems a little rude. It is no different than if you had a couple of toddlers at your side and stopped your train of thought to play goo goo with the kids. People enjoy finding out about your home life, but a separate video about your pets would be more appropriate. Just sayin".

Nothing you just described is rude. What IS rude, however, is pushing for someone to behave and act how it pleases you individually while also speaking for others, and assuming that the rest of us agree without any proof of that being the case. Pets and kids exist and are just a part of life. If you don’t like that, then watch someone who’s child free and pet free instead of trying to force someone to conform to your personal preferences.

Strange entitlement here. She's not existing to please everyone. Well, as you've gone this far already - some readers might enjoy your comments but it would be better next time if you just typed them in your phones notes. Would really help thanks
