It's almost unbelievable the variation in climate (and on top of this micro-climate) for locations around a little island like the UK. I am 70+ miles north of you in Lytham St Annes yet on the 12 April I had 13 deg C on my plot and blue skies, when you had snow flurries. Goes to show you have to plan around what weather you get, not just what you read in magazines or watch on youtube.

Nice one Nigel. We've had some weird weather also. Fine hot sunny days, then rain. Now its starting to get cool which is for us a tad early. As a result I think I've cooked some of my winter seeds in the propagators on the hot days. Oh well if you don't succeed try again. Must say I'm a bit jealous of your brassicas. Oh so chilly for you!! 🥶 Agreed Nigel, losing a few is not a concern when you get such a good harvest of lovely large potatoes and still good when you knock the chit off of them! Lovely way to recycle if you ask me especially with the cost of compost! What a beaut of a harvest!! Very good point to sift to make sure you've got no strays! The soil looks lovely!! Am I seeing right? Are you chilling your beer outside of the carrot beds??lol If after 150 yrs you can't deem it a success then you can't be pleased!lol Long enough for me to be convinced! Good point, I'd probably wait for a non-windy day! Onion bed looks great! Lovely parsnips!! One with canker isn't too bad really! Handy to get wood chips just when you need them! I love that you call these Tundra little! To me they are huge! I should be so lucky!! Wow GH is packed solid! I can see I've still got to sort out how I start and pot on. My seedlings are piddly compared to yours. All new for me to do the starts indoors. This will take more organization, better pots and a more strategically planned space, I'm thinking. Superb update as normal everything looks brill. Must pop over again when we can simply for me to put my hands in the soil so I can actually feel what it’s like if you know what I mean. It’s always great to see on camera but you can’t always get that feeling actually how it is. I’ve learnt so much over the last few years since we met up from guys like you Mick, Terry etc I really actually feel like sometimes I understand what I’m doing. Next on my big list is Brassicas, I can grow salad stuff even some carrots now yeah ! But cabbage and such is still a bit of hit and miss. All the best my Black Country neighbour cheers 🍻

Thanks for sharing how you get the containers ready for planting. We’ve been working for over a decade to create compost to amend our beds. We now get a small amount but there’s a real lack of organic material in our area. Nice looking parsnips! Take care.

Great video Nigel @ MuddyBootz and well done job on the soil preparation and good harvest of your late winter vegetables. Hopefully the weather and temperatures will increase in the next few days. There's hasn't been much snow in my area and even when there was when it melted it wasn't enough to wet the soil and some rain would be welcome.
Hello David and welcome to the channel. I think rain will be welcomed in most places, cracks have started to appear around my elephant garlic and I have used my comfrey feed to water them. The parsnips look good for this time of year Nigel. I took my final ones out a week ago. They were slightly smaller than yours but still made a good meal.

Great potatoes. Watched a few videos now about onions and shallots. When they get leggy cut some top growth off. Goodness goes into the bulb. I am not planting my onions and shallots from seed till maybe end of April. Think they are on the third hair cut.

@@MuddyBootz Thanks Nigel, will do that, I've never really had a problem with Suttons before this, but zero germination from two packets produced this year had me worried about future reliability of their seeds. I'll update with whatever response I get.
@@MuddyBootz Contacted Suttons this morning, very helpful, they are refunding the cost of the tumbler toms as they have no stock, and sending replacement onion seeds. So it was worth the call, thanks for the excellent advice.
Where in the world are you located??? Best have an open site with good drainage. try to dig in plenty of well rotted farmyard manure during autumn time. Let it work in over the winter months. Where in the world are you located??? Best have an open site with good drainage. try to dig in plenty of well rotted farmyard manure during autumn time. Let it work in over the winter months. In march I add a top dressing of Superphosphates (and maybe lime depending on pH) 😀
