Can complete beginners make a decent Gumbo?

RECIPE:
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup canola oil
4 cups chopped onions
2 cups chopped celery
2 cups diced green bell pepper
1 cup chopped green onions and tops
4 cups of broth (your choice: beef, chicken, veggie, seafood)
8 cups water
4 cups sliced okra
2 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons salt
2 tablespoons oregano
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
6 cups small shrimp
1 can lump crab meat
2 tablespoons cajun/creole seasoning
After our last visit to Disneyland, we had lunch at the Blue Bayou Restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean. We have eaten there a few times in the past, and one of my favorite menu items at the restaurant is their Gumbo. Unfortunately they removed the gumbo from the menu for some unknown reason. Since I didn’t get to fulfill my craving, we decided to try our hand at making some gumbo at home.
