5 years ago we had a 78 year old bridge replaced and about to have an 85 year old one done. Funny enough the new one gets stuck more frequently and takes much longer than expected to open and close than the old one ever did.
This is what happens when the owners become complacent, shame on these organizations...I feel for the general public, it will be years before they get back to normal.
Dams are not built to control water flow, but manage water flow. This entire mess is a failure of several people to do their jobs ... criminal negligence. It's a man-made disaster. Eventually dams fail. Solution: don't build up against a river, it will eventually overflow. 100+ yrs ago, it was a necessity for local industry to use waterways for majority of transports. Now we use waterways for turbines, creating lakes for R and R.
