No, you are slightly wrong. These days there are so many ecu's (electronic control unit) in a car for separate modules, like BCM (for body controls), TCM (for transmission), ECM (for engine), IMMU (for key immobiliser) etc . ECM is an ECU but TCM, BCM and other modules are also ECU. As control unit "ecu" for transmission is TCM and control unit "ecu" for vehicle body functions is BCM.
if i have a ecu in my car, with its own key, and i also have another ECU with its own key (but with a tune for different parts) can i simply swap ECUS and swap KEYS and be good to go ?
im looking to reinstall some performance parts, the other ecu i want to install has a tune for those parts aswell as its own key... im wondering if i can just swap ECU and swap parts and use the key for that ECU to start the vehicle or if it will need to see a dealership

Everyone should stand up and demand the right to have no immobilizer on their new car if they choose. Now instead of your car getting hot wired and stolen they break in and shoot you and take the key. Also they significantly increase the likelihood of your car being taken straight to the scrap yard. Wish i could buy a new car without one. These immobilizers are being forced on us and it's not cool at all.
