Indeed. My son just dumped the photos etc. That my daughter in law left in an old shed. Two years later i had switched houses with him as his new family needed a bigger home. Shocked i told him about it. He just said throw it all away. But i saved it. Wish he had used the info to go for full custody of kids. The split custody of this state allowed kids to be with an irresponsible mother, whose bedroom has a revolving door on it. No fault state here, but with other more serious factors, the kids got messed up. You gotta fight for your kids. Don't let the other party depress you so bad you give up the fight. More important, in hindsight, pick the right one.
I find it amazing that when you steal a car there must be evidence in order to prosecute, yet a Restraining order due to violence can be issued WITHOUT PROOF !
There are two areas of law in the US where the presumption of innocent until proven guilty is not followed and instead it is effectively guilty until proven innocent. One I Federal taxation and the other is domestic assault, both physical and s3xual. I understand why, but still disagre on a philosophical level, but that is reality.

I hate how John and Beth rather take their own life than move on and change to be a better person. They're already being punished by being disowned from their family and get in jail, so there's no need to put more salt in their wounds. Many people makes mistakes everyday. So if they're already being punished, don't degrade yourself at their level and being the same jerk as them. Be a bigger person and let the hate go away but be cautious and don't forget your lesson.

The one detail that I would have changed I I would have had the husband sue his brother for alienation of affection in the exact amount of the brother's stock in the family business and used his he upcoming conviction for under aged crimes as leverage. Overall a good story.

It's a great thing that OP gained custody of his daughters because if he didn't, they would've ended up in foster care, due to John's actions.
