Ashley, I love this idea. I will share one tip I learned from my grandmother, and that is to always iron handkerchiefs or in this case, cloth napkins. This will insure that they are completely germ free for another use. Thank you once again for another helpful lesson.
I made face clothes and bum wipes for my daughter the same way. I do not have a serger, so I used the over edge stitch on my sewing machine and it worked pretty well. They have held up for 2.5 years so far :). I'll have to make some for the kitchen now.
punkinpie27 Oh thank you so much for sharing! I'm slightly experienced with the serger, but haven't used a sewing machine in a long time. Thanks for mentioning how you made them work with a sewing machine, hopefully that can help others who have that, bu not a serger. ( : Way to go green!
Lauren A I know right?! I'm the same way. I feel like I've got the napkins down, but ask me to sew anything else and I'd be clueless! Glad you liked the music!
eveTennis Ha ha! I do like everything to be in a nice, organized step-by-step format (with lots of visuals). Doing these napkins makes me feel braver about sewing more...maybe someday I'll get a serger myself...yikes! ( :
Only problem with this video it does not show to finish the end stitching. It must be woven back in under previous serging or tied or fabric glued. If it is left like this video indicates the thread will not stay in time. I serge a lot and this is a must.
great idea, I keep running out of paper towels this will save money too, I love sewing. I don't have a serger but a zigzag stitch I think will work to. I'm glad I found your video. :-)
Vegan Lovefood Glad you liked the music, thanks for letting me know. And yes, Olaf was too cute. I kept trying to sew and he would always come back over to me like a magnet. It was kind of nice because I just have dogs, and they do things like that! ( :
Yep! Loved the new music :) Someday I will make some really nice napkins like these, but for now we use cheap washcloths from the dollar store lol ;) As for our cleaning rags we use old t-shirts and old washcloths that have seen better days haha :)
Jennifer King Thanks for your feedback on the music! And I'm usually a dog person, but Olaf was such a cutie filming this, so he may have changed my mind on cats! ( :
In Australia we call a serger an overlocker for some reason. I suck at sewing the last thing i made was pajama pants for my partner and i managed to cut the dinosaur print fabric upside down for one leg so it ended up with some weird dinosaur explosion over the butt, so hopefully this won't be as challenging but you never know :P thanks for the cool video though :)
+Susan Ditzier You bet! Usually around this time of year I make some more sets since my older ones get a little faded and I love adding new prints to my collection. But I always wait for snow days from school to do them, so here's to hoping for some snow days soon! ( :
(only answering because you asked, normally I wouldn't post a negative.) My preference is that I do not like background music when I'm trying to listen to directions. The music itself was not bad, not too loud. I do not typically listen to background music so I find it distracting. My husband was not listening to this one but something to consider -- he is hard of hearing so he would not be able to hear your voice with background music playing. I loved the video, btw.
Please don't use these for oil/greasy spills as they are then very dangerous to dry in your dryer. (read dryer warnings) I use newspaper or junk mail for those.
What a great savings! I am so DIY challenged though. Here is my DIY first aid kit th-cam.com/video/9WLa3QIqZ2A/w-d-xo.html - not as impressive :) We do use cloth napkins and now that I've seen this video I won't feel so good about buying them when I can make them. PS - I like the music.
Patricia Keele Thanks for the feedback on the music and for sharing your video! ( : Trust me, I'm DIY challenged too. I can handle a little green DIY but when it comes to other crafty things I'm a little lost. ( :

Awesomely inspiring tutorial! I would love to see how you care for your cloth napkins; washing, storage, stains, grease stains etc.
shelbie resendiz This video might be able to help answer your questions...( :

Very nice! I've never sewed in my life, but it's fun to watch someone else do it. Haha. And yes, I like the background music.
Lauren A I know right?! I'm the same way. I feel like I've got the napkins down, but ask me to sew anything else and I'd be clueless! Glad you liked the music!
I really enjoyed the music. I also think this is such a cool and affordable way to make your own clothe napkins. Thanks.
GlowySweetFabulous Glad you liked it! Thanks for letting me know and for watching! 9 :
It's so obvious that your a teacher!! Everything is so detailed:) Thanks for the tutorial. This reminds me to use my sewing machine more often lol

+Patsy Mesa Did it work out? I don't have a serger either and I want to make these.
Great tip and I really liked the background music, it makes this video super relaxing to watch! Olaf is adorable :)

I will make this as my project thx for the idea♥️
Does this work with a zigzag stitch on a regular sewing machine?
Alison Zhou I believe it could work with that.
Yep! Loved the new music :) Someday I will make some really nice napkins like these, but for now we use cheap washcloths from the dollar store lol ;) As for our cleaning rags we use old t-shirts and old washcloths that have seen better days haha :)
CompletelyRandomlyMe Hey old shirts and wash cloths work when needed right?! ( : Glad you liked the music!
Yes they do :)
I enjoyed the music - it wasn't too loud or distracting. Your cloth napkins are too cute and loved Olaf :)
Jennifer King Thanks for your feedback on the music! And I'm usually a dog person, but Olaf was such a cutie filming this, so he may have changed my mind on cats! ( :
Can we use flannel for these napkins?
Hi Ashley this video was so helpful. Do you know anything about the family clothes and if you do could you give a little advice on them thank you.
It's also called an overlocker machine because the main stick is an overlock stitch to "lock" in the fabric edges to reduce frayage :)
Great video It was so helpful as usual love ya ashley!!
KatiesComment Thanks so much for your support! ( :
Did you prewash the fabric first? And Did you use anything to secure the ends ? I know some people tie the thread off or use fray check. Thanks
+Susan Ditzier I probably should have done all those things, but I didn't ( : It works without prewashing it or fray check.
Love this! Thanks! I was wondering what type of fabric to use for cloth napkins:)
Miranda Goodroad Cotton flannel. There's a link to the kind I got from Jo-Ann's in the description box too. ( :
Very cool!!!

I made these today. thanks again for the video

Nothing to do with this video but do you get B12 shots or take supplements?
Ashley A Take supplements, I use this one: www.amazon.com/Garden-Life-Vitamin-Complex-Capsules/dp/B00280M12A
I love your cat!

Love this now I just need to find the machine! Lol
analiliann LOL, I think I've borrowed my mother-in-law's machine 3 times now and I'm beginning to wonder if I should just get one for myself!
Que hermoso el gatico
