It can be difficult to figure out what detergents and fabric softeners/conditioners work best. But once we do, laundering is a snap. We are not the "messy marvins" we used to be, so it is much easier to throw a load of napkins, handkerchiefs, dish rags and tea towels. I have found some of the "newer" types of towels are far too good at absorbing everything. They hang onto those odours, stains, grease for a long time if not pretreated. I find that a good soak overnight with *Dawn dish detergent does the trick. I will have to give that extra hot treatment you showed a try when I have a large amount to do.
I used to never use paper towels. But my husband loves them. You've got me totally going to set up a basket now, maybe hang it, with these wash clothes. I hate all the money we spend on paper towels and always have. Kids grab too many paper towels to dry hands always bothers me too. Very wasteful. This will be fun to do! Love DJ
We buy extra dark colored hand towels and use them as napkins. We just wash them w all the other towels. They all go in the same drawer and are all interchangeable. We now only use paper towels for grease or cleaning counters. (My counter cleaner, will "scent" the rest of the laundry and irritates my daughter skin).
👏🙌 we’re doing more and more bigger hand towels now that the kids are getting older- I love having the smaller size for the kids though, especially when they use them instead of tissues.
I’ve never bought paper towels. When I was young ( I’m very old) I remember when we dusted we used my dads old underwear. They worked get. We never thought anything about it. I have a dollar Tree tote under my sink to put the dirty clothes in.
Thank you for this video!! I wanted more thoughts on using and maintaining cloth napkins and all the videos I found when searching were on how to make them. That’s helpful, but not what i need!
We recently got these washable cloths that are like paper towels and I LOVE THEM! My husband still uses paper towels, but I’m a wash rag gal! I have 2 bins under my sink, one for clean and 1 for dirties! I’ve done stripping on my bath towels, I’ll have to throw my kitchen ones in there, too. I found the hack on Pinterest, you put vinegar in the fabric softener section and baking soda in the detergent section. Works really great!
We did the vinegar/baking soda for years for cloth diapers and it just does not keep up with our water (extremely hard water)! So glad it’s working for you!!
Thanks!! It isn’t for everyone, but It doesn’t have to be “more laundry” - unless you are using disposable towels for everything you can just wash them with your bath and hand towels! 😅
I have some old bath towels and hand towels that I could definitely use. If I cut the bath towels though, will they just fray and come apart in the wash? I’ve been saving them and I want to get use out of them
a serger is your best bet, or you could do 2 layers per napkin and turn and topstitch to make them look nice .. or just zigzag and then do a straight stitch around them, they'll fray a little but not all the way ..

we've been doing this for 15 years, so if you have any more questions just ask!

No way! Trees are a renewable resource and trading in more laundry is not a good thing for me!
Love your farm!
