"When Phil starting singing again in 1984 after a decade hiatus from the vocal microphone, he started with some cover songs like Gimme Some Lovin' and this Bob Dylan classic, which he first sang with the Grateful Dead on 3/27/85. It remained in the repertoire until 1995, played a few times every year. It always sounded like Phil was having fun when he sang it. It was Phil's playful lyrical modification 'I'm going back to San Anselmo' that inspired me to live in San Anselmo when I lived in Marin County 1999-2006." - David Lemieux
I miss them so much, it's like half of my life disappeared in 95. The smiles between Jerry n Brent were so heartfelt it made you feel that they really enjoyed playing for us. May they rest in peace. I hope Phil joins Bobby when this damn virus is gone. Peace everyone be safe, be Grateful✌😎🤪💨💨💨🌅🌈🐻🌌🌉
Seriously...I'm not a Dead Head per se...but who sees this performance and gives it a thumbs down? Really??? I enjoy the covers of Bob Dylan. Thank you for sharing this with us.👍
Wanna go for a ride? Just hop on the bus. It's a crazy cool bus that just keeps on growing and going. Now it even goes in multiple directions. What ever we have done here, us and the band,---- it is a first and it is good.
Younger dead head never experienced the full Grateful Dead experience with Jerry but its things like that this to keep me digging nd craving more ill never have enough!
Get thee to the sphere. The magic is still there. Do not listen to the naysayers. I saw Jerry numerous times. I've seen DeadCo numerous times. All good brother... ⚡️💀🥀
So many decades of this joy. The Grateful Dead should get the Nobel Prize for being the Grateful Dead. That way the world would bestow gratitude on them beyond what I could bestow and justice would be done.
Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Tom Constanten, Keith Godchaux and Vince Welnick- they were very important in Deads history, but for me Brent Mydland was the best. The way he was playing keyboards was not only beautiful.... You can feel it only listening to this sounds. Rip Ron, Keith, Brent and Vince [*].
I was there...and I'm first to comment here. Thanks for the upload. The CSN opener and the rush of fans to get to the field was a great memory. Cheers and long live the Grateful Dead.
KEEP ON KEEPING ON....ONE TRUCK AT A TIME & IF YOU ARE DOWN OR HAVING A BAD DAY OR GOING THROUGH HARD TIMES... THE SUN WILL SHINE IN YOUR BACKDOOR AGAIN!!!!❤
Bass Great....Lesh Philling! Best version of the best song I've ever heard Phil take lead vocals on. He gets less love for his vocal talents than Ringo got from the Beatles! Had I not known better, I would have sworn I was listening to Dylan himself. In fact, I think Phil 'out Dylaned" Dylan on this one. Very well done, Phil. Say what you want, but when they were hitting on all cylinders, nobody ever was better live than the Grateful Dead! NOBODY!
This was in Pittsburgh's Three Rivers Stadium in July -- the humidity was as thick as the beer. There'd been a water hose sprayed onto the crowd on the stadium floor because we were getting crisp in the sun. That created a massive slip and slide on the plastic put down to protect the baseball field underneath us. Fond memories of a great summer evening.
2:45... The dude just the right of Jerry's nose... The simple nod n wiggle of his head perfectly in flux with the notes dripping from the air...goddamn I love the Grateful Dead 💀⚡🌹
I really don't listen to much Dead from this era, but there's really something wonderful about this tune when they nailed it. Gotta love nerd dad Phil, God bless this merry band of misfits for ever meeting each other.
And if his hair was any browner you'd be able to read the name of the hair coloring brand in it. (Seriously, it's _got_ to be dyed brown (IMO). Too perfectly even coloring, plus, I don't recall his hair's actual color looking anything like that in the sixties at the concerts I saw -- or the time I ran into him in the lobby of the Filmore East and shook his hand -- his hair at that time being (IIRC) sort of "electric" white (I assume bleached, for whatever reason). None of my beeswax if he felt like dipping into the brown hair color bottle. Just curious, is all.)
Great Day in Time this was !!! Makes me want to go back in time n do it ALL again !!! Not a care in the world 😋 WONDERFUL times INDEED !!! Thanks for a Real Good Time guys ✨✌💖🎶✨ 🌹PEACE LOVE N HEALTH to ALL n All that you hold DEAR🌹

I stand by Phil. It is a rare treat to hear Phil sing and thanks for sharing it Mr Le Mieux🙏😎
Another wonderful ad lib ... “So I started out on burgundy but soon I hit the harder stuff ...
Lots of potential to be playful here.
How did he remember the all those lyrics. I don't see a teleprompter.
@@marcschaeffer2032 What is ad love about that, the word “so”?
Phil's singing and the camera work, very intimate and kind moment for all.
Thanks for everything, Phil!
rip phil you were greatly loved
Thanks for the music phil ⚡️🥀💙❤️

What your chemistry teacher does on the weekends

Haha my high school biology teacher was a deadhead. Shout out Mr. Weiss, ehs.

Who never rubbed in the sunblock on his legs

Phil sounded so good here. Fly on, sweet man 💙
Blinded by Phil’s legs!
whiter shade of pale
My legs are even more skinny but not as white. I refer to them as....glow-sticks.
LOL

I loved those times so much.
I was never in the "Let Phil Sing" section, but the band would never have been what it was without him. A legendary life
Thank you Phil.
Forever Loved
Forever Grateful ❤️🌌
Brents piano is beautiful:)
all Dead is good Dead but Brent Dead is best Dead
Seriously...I'm not a Dead Head per se...but who sees this performance and gives it a thumbs down? Really???
I enjoy the covers of Bob Dylan.

Agreed. I’ve tried to give John Mayer a chance. Nope. He just doesn’t do it it for me. Plus, he’s a jerk. Very disappointing choice.

"its all 1 song"
Yo Vinny
I like Keith tho. Brent was great but his choice of sounds were cheap. Cheap plastic piano sound
@@mumbles215 Keith literally had one sound and it was always the same. Ill take Brent on the B3 over anything Keith ever did.
Brent was all four of them + Donna all wrapped up into one neat package...
"And my best friend, my drummer, won't even tell me what it is I dropped" 😂
Started out on Heineken......
Right as I read this comment he sang that lyric!
Thank you!
One of my favorite songs the boys did. I sure hope I get to see Phil sing this once more.
Please do! See Graham too.
Thanks Phil!
Absolutely love this. Video quality is amazing. I love this Dylan tune and this is probably one of my favorite versions.
I was there...and I'm first to comment here. Thanks for the upload. The CSN opener and the rush of fans to get to the field was a great memory. Cheers and long live the Grateful Dead.
LONG LIVE THE DEAD !!!
Jerry looked great in the summer of 90.
The band was thriving, it was the last hurrah before the last decline.
@@sealevelbearThey were still pretty great in the summer of 91, but otherwise I agree.
He looked great, but he looked a lot older than he was, which was 47
Is there something you guys have against Foxboro '90? The cameras were working and everything... What's the deal?
Love the old 3 Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh Pa!!!
The comments are fabulous lol😂. I love this tune, thanks for the share. God bless the Grateful Dead😀🌈
Dang Phill. You need some sun on those legs... Glad to see brent

I was at this show! Not too far from the soundboard, to the left as it was facing the stage.
Lucky man
At 2.51 mins in I saw you. You had the tie die on, and you were dancing.
Me too. ✌
These dudes have to be BEST looking band ever put together! They seem a little nervous, I hope they make it big someday.
Fashion icons, especially Phil on bass.
It's the shorts!
One of my favorites bands in the history of rock n roll!!
Love the Dylan covers ❤️❤️❤️
Omg jerry and bobby look like they just got back from vacation and phil has been stuck inside all summer! Why he so white 🤣
Jerry post Hawaii
😂
Happy belated Birthday!!! Bill!!!

I really don't listen to much Dead from this era, but there's really something wonderful about this tune when they nailed it. Gotta love nerd dad Phil, God bless this merry band of misfits for ever meeting each other.
If Phils legs were any whiter they'd be clear
And if his hair was any browner you'd be able to read the name of the hair coloring brand in it.

Not gonna lie, I was totally waiting for that classic "Back to New York City" line. But this was just magic. Phil's a wildman
I was at the first time he did this song I believe it was Nassau coliseum 1985
Phil! Your a life saver... I have heart angina I can't slow down... don't let your children swallow their gum. 😒
The voice of an angel
Heard a phil song in '95🎉😊
TH-cam keeps putting this on my home page, and I keep listening. I'm in love with young Phil. I wonder if he wrote the clever new lyrics.
“ I’m Going back to San Anselmo, I do believe I’ve had enough”
I wrote the same lyric! I deleted it when I saw you had already written it. Marin country represent!
Love me some GRATEFUL Dead, I'm goin back to San Enselmo....
Where riding motorcycles , who's ready, I think Phil is so great, can git an Àman😊
