Blue Peter's East Coast Return - LNER Peppercorn A2 60532 'Blue Peter' - 13/07/24

Returning to the East Coast Mainline for the first time since 2001, sole-surviving LNER Peppercorn A2 60532 'Blue Peter' makes her long-awaited official launch on a run between London Kings Cross and York, hauling a private charter of LSL's staff and trustees. A rededication ceremony for the locomotive took place at Kings Cross station, led by LSL Chairman, Jeremy Hosking.
We initially catch the Pacific at Newark Northgate station, passing through 25 minutes early, having omitted a timetabled stop in Claypole Loop. Further north, we catch 60532 on the approach into Doncaster station, accelerating along the Down Fast line, running alongside the locomotive's modern counterpart, in the form of an LNER Azuma.
Not only blue in name, 60532 carries BR Express Blue livery. Whilst this livery was never carried by the Peppercorn A2s in service, it is a livery seldom seen in preservation. This comes following a £5 million overhaul of the locomotive at Crewe over the past 7 years, having moved from her previous home at Barrow Hill Roundhouse.
