I love that they didn’t pull any punches. The world is weird, dark and cruel, and they had no problem showing all of it. Writing’s pretty damn good so far.
To paraphrase Sir Terry Pratchett, the reason most video game movies/tv shows suck is that they take all the blood out to make them "family friendly." Then they wonder where the stories went.
Kilter Films knew better. They didn't take out any blood. Not one drop.
Hell, I'd argue they do a better job at showing that than the newer games.
As a long term fallout fan i had no hope for this. Especially after fallout 4/76 (fallout 4 isnt bad at all but the writing absolutely sucks). I enjoyed this more than the tlou (ok i am very bias but its also because i knew the tlou story, this being completely original made it so much more exciting). Also the ending with the new vegas reveal made me scream like a 9 year old girl
@@PrestxnGG I like fallout 4, But I will admit it is not a good fallout game, It is a good game just not a good fallout game.
Vegas is My favorite fallout game.
Walton Goggins was underrated 10 years ago. He is getting some respect these days
I love this shoe, as a huge fan of the games , it really makes me feel so good that they stayed true to the game , this is the best video game interpretation right next to season 2 of the halo series , and btw if you haven't watched season 2 of the halo season , it's the biggest improvement I've ever seen
he's so good in righteous gemstones and vice principals, im so glad he got to play this role in my favorite universe. i love him
@@jtowe14 yeah I loved him in both of those, in Justified and The Shield as well. He is just delightful in anything he touches.
@@stormywaters1565/videos I loved him as Boyd in Justified! Actually I like him in everything.
RESPECC*
Don't worry Omni. Those games are made for you to get distracted from the main story. You're playing the "right way".
Considering how long these episodes are, I have a feeling our main characters will get distracted with some side missions in the show.
12:00 damn you're a sharp one
The ghoul by far is my favorite of the characters. An old world actor who was there when the world ended and lives through the wasteland as his western persona. A lifetime and 200 years of experience just refusing to go out easily.
30:10 In Fallout 4 there's a weapon called "Junk Jet" and it allows you to shoot with junk like tin cans, teddy bears, bottles etc.
It was also in Fallout 3
@@joeb918 F3 played ages ago, so wasn't sure
Was about to comment this. I'm so glad they added a reference to the junk jet. Gonna be hilarious watching reactors wonder why a doll leg is sticking out of that man's chest haha.
In F3, it was called the Rock-It Launcher.
So hilarious they included it in the show, and on top of that used the doll piece!
The opening sequence is terrifying, and made far more unsettling with the thumb aspect.
Exceptional acting in the thumb scene from that kid and they nailed it in general. Can't believe we've got yet another great show on the boil.
That little girl was actually too good of an actress for my taste, I had to pause the show and take some time to recover.
@@dayanna901I actually teared up and got pretty emotional during that scene and mostly because of that little actress. I hope she has a great career cause she definitely has the acting chops!!
@@dayanna901 those panicked little breaths and wide eyes are so spot on
5:22 every time I see I see this once specific scene with the little girl with the thumbs up, terrifies me every time I see it and all the other videos that I watch because the sheer look of horror in her face when she asked, is it supposed to be my thumb or your thumb breaks my heart because sheis such an adorable child and yet the reality just nails her so hard
Ella Purnell does a such good job at Lucy here. I always think she’s a great chameleon, going from Yellowjackets to voicing Jinx in Arcane, to this. But the rest of the cast does a good job too. This just seems to be mostly Lucy’s episode.
I appreciate her more and more as the show goes on. She does Naive really well but she never makes it annoying. I especially love how whenever she's confronted with the horror of immense odds she just says "Okie-Dokie" and tilts on.
This show is already everything I wanted even after one ep. Every single drop of dystopia psychofreude you can cram on a limp biscuit. Nom nom nom nom.
Yeah, I copied my comment from another channel over here. Sue me. Eat up, algorithm!
This show has now given me a fobia in that I do not put on my shoes without looking.
Achievement unlocked, well done writers.
I was already way ahead of them on this front. But it was always because I was afraid there was a spider in my shoe.
@@evabeezeroscorpions for me
I think the comedic blood is an attempt to sort of embody the video-game violence.
Connected Vaults are definitely the exception to the rule, and I think you're right that the experiment is about interconnected vaults, and Lucy's dad and mom are probably part of that.
I was just about to make a comment about "American Mythology", and the messaging about the Vault Dwellers holding values like praising tradition and maintaining a picturesque dream of the "nuclear family" spreading liberty and freedom as they colonize a new land.
Then Lucy said "Y'know, Cousin stuff is all well and good for kids but it's not a sustainable long-term sexual practice." and that line simultaneously took all the wind out of my sails for writing that comment, and also basically wrote that comment for me.
That line really talks about how the biological dangers of inbreeding have long lasting effects, more than having a short term impact.
@@Dracobyte it sure does
A GF once mentioned a term I hadnt heard before. "Kissing Cousins", Have to assume in that small of a fish bowl society. Fooling around to a degree will happen lol
This show is ridiculously great as a fan of the games. I really hope it does well so we can get more seasons.
I heard season 2 was immediately greenlit
@@daurydavis3983 It's not official yet as far as I know, but it might have been greenlit internally.
@@lucasluna1699just watched the last episode last night, and I really hope we are getting that second season. I need more!
season 2 was greenlit a few days ago so like we're in luck!
@@wywrd_mtnt YES! I'm so excited for that!
Invincible,X-men 97, Fallout we’re truly in a new golden age of television
And the happiness I had when I saw the junk gun was insane😂
Fun fact the actor that's playing Norm acted on the Disney Channel tv series Hannah Montana as a character named Rico and he also acted on Nacho Libre oh yeah and Omn1Media the inhaler looking thing that you said you couldn't remember the name of it's called Jet and if i remember correctly it makes the playable character stronger for a limited amount of time oh and the weapon that shoots random junk is called a Rock It Launcher
My guess right now is that the experiment being held here was to see how these vault communities would interact with each other.
Some vaults were control vaults, so they didn't necessarily have an experiment. I don't know if vault 33 had an experiment or not. Most vaults did.
I think the experiment is having vault 31,32,and 33 connected with limited contact between them. Once every 3 years they can trade. Will they help each other, go to war, stay independent or intermingle that sort of stuff
It would apears that 33 double vault with 32 as experiment. Like mingling of two comunitiies until eventual inbreeding. or something to that effect occur depend of how long it would be to all good signal.
@@laigron7884 Oh ok. like I said, I didn’t know if it had an experiment or not.
@@laigron7884why spoil it for him?
@@coleeckerman1390 what spoiler? I saw only first episode and that was my gues based on type of experiments that were done in games, and what was shown in episode.
5:50 now I have to give it to Coggins on his performance telling her it’s just a fire, but as soon as he recognize that mushroom cloud and mushroom fire, he realized what just happened fantastic job all around from the little girl, a professional actor
The weapon they were using at end is called the "Rock-it Launcher" it launches "its" at things.
They told you what the Brotherhood was about: finding and securing "Pre-war" tech
Wrong. The rock it launcher is from fallout 3. The gun at the end is actually the junk jet from fallout 4, which funnily does the exact same thing as the rock-it-launcher just different name and design.
I got serious Westworld vibes from J. Nolan- the world is familiar but it’s off- kilter just enough that you know that there’s something wrong with it.
Getting a shout-out from ReelRejects was dope! I love when my favorite reactors show each other love. Please enjoy the show and give fallout a chance. It's meant for you to get lost in. That's why they call it a wasteland 😁
Didn’t they react to tales of the Jedi together
The weapon the guy at the end uses that fires junk is called a Junk Jet. Instead of a standardized ammo type, it fires whatever junk items that you find and store into it, which can include things like ashtrays, teddy bears, nuka-cola bottles, pretty much anything that's only use is to be scrapped for parts. You can get it fairly early in Fallout 4 by going with one Paladin Danse, who you can find at the Cambridge Police Station, to ArcJet Systems.
3:11 Did you say...... shiny and chrome? WITNESS ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We share the exact stance on the fallout series and open world games in general. Thank you so much btw for your content it’s helped me a ton lately mentally. Hope you have a great rest of your week! 😊💪🏾
You know, I'm rewatching this a second time through this reaction, and seeing it again, the actor playing the Elder of the Brotherhood of Steel is doing a phenomenal job. He manages to portray this ambitious, wizened and confident leader without explicitly making him seem evil, or egotistical. He's believable as a man who confidently gained his position through YEARS of experience and conflict. Shout out to that guy.
Edit: His name is Michael Cristofer and he has a career befitting his performance here.
I have to agree, he really nailed it. Just to add what you say he comes across as someone who has dedicated a lifetime to a cause he believes in.
He was incredible in Mr. Robot too
Tears in my eyes damn it. That beginning was something. Kid actor was amazing!
(NO SPOILERS) I just finished the last episode. This show is EASILY one of my favorite shows out there. The player representation, the lore, the writing, the locations, the EFFORT! The ending ... im geeking out.
I love Walton goggins Face in the beginning. He went through all the stages
This is how you do a Videogame Adaptation in my eyes, not like what we got with Halo. Staying true to the source material and not messing around with it for no good reason.
Honestly right there with you, and I'm not even through episode 2! With Halo... like, I am enjoying the direction they are now trying to redirect the show in after Season 1's reception, but it boggles my mind how in the world anyone in charge of greenlighting projects (which are by design meant to *make* money, not throw it away) decided to give the reigns over to someone who actively didn't want to understand the pre-existing lore of a franchise that has made absolute millions, yet still had the foresight to let Cortana be voiced by Jen Taylor?? It's absolutely baffling lol.
It's absolutely insane to me that the credits song was not written for the show.
I'm a HUGE Fallout fan. I FEARED this show so much. I didnt want to believe since I have been disappointed so much.
But after 2 episodes in, I love it so much.
The vault situation is SUPER interesting to me. I think they said Vaults 31-34 are connected, but it seems like each vault has a way up to the surface.
Are vaults 31 and 34 okay? Did the raiders have to go THROUGH 31 to get to 32? If there are people still in 34, are they gonna help 33 after the raid and the bombing?
And most importantly, were these four vaults created with the intent of actually recolonizing, or are they some of the fucked up vaults with ulterior motives?
That guy Maximus looks like a mix of Denzel Washington and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Holy balls, Omni - you are the second reactor from WV that I have been subscribed to. I was born there but we moved when I was 3. But dad, grandpa, and everyone before was born and raised there. I've been back a few times as an adult - it's got issues, but overall the most beautiful place I've been.
I like that they’re setting up two player characters (one male one female) and having their stories collide
And it wouldn't be fallout without the badass NPC companion who has a tragic backstory and a wicked aesthetic.
@@TheGoIsWin21 EXACTLY
Finished the whole season just now, I actually enjoyed it, it was a fun show
She didn't pick the machine guns off the ground because she didn't put any points to "machine guns" as seen in the beginning. Small guns are her thing.
"Does it just fire junk?" That would be the Junk Jet, and... yup. Fires teddy-bears and forks and all kinda scrap.
I had to watch the whole thing before watching your reaction and I'm so glad I did, lol - As a long time Fallout player, I freaking LOVED this show. The sets, the Easter eggs.... everything.
I've only ever played Fallout 4, but I've spent HOURS upon HOURS in it and have read up on lore because it is such a well-developed world. I am very excited to see where this goes and see your opinions on it!
Fallout 3 is a little old but was my introduction to Fallout and I feel has the best story out of each of them! I got really attached to the story about a child leaving the bunker to find his missing father who was voiced by Liam Neeson! It was the best in my opinion!
5:12 Hey Omni, I just wanted to let you know very good job. I’m picking up from the previous scene of why he didn’t feel comfortable doing the thumbs up. Good job. I’m picking that up.
As someone who has never been able to really get into the fallout games, this show is great so far
IVE FINALLY GOTTEN AROUND TO WATHING THIS SHOW AND IM SO EXCITED TO WATCH YOUR REACTIONS!!!!! LETS GOO
This made the nuclear blasts truly horrifying as they should be. Moreso than even Fallout 4 did. That opening had me shook!
I play all games, so i'm just happy that at least they will show the true about the vaults.
This series is way too good Jonathan Nolan never misses 🔥
"Would that be enough to get the ones running away".
Probably not, it does however keep the 33ers from following them into vault 32
Ella Purnell is amazing!
I now I am late, but just started this... and I am already shocked that I can sing along every single song in this ^^*
I'd love to have whole episode or something that shows us what happend to Cooper before he became Ghoul, just after those bombs dropped
9:01 a quick search up in google, supposedly in Fallout VIDEO GAME lore there were supposedly 17 vaults out of 122 PUBLICLY KNOWN (in the fallout universe) that legit ran as normal vaults and not straight up science experiments from the moment the bombs dropped. This could be ONE of the 17. BUT looking up a fallout wiki page, vault 33, 32, and 31 are actually connected to each other almost as one giant vault, for seemingly the purpose of raising healthy people in each vault before they swap one another for breeding. These three vaults MIGHTVE been part of an experiment on generational growth and breeding, but they seem to run mostly normal and healthy societies just fine for two centuries until raiders invaded. 🤔
There's a weapon in Fallout 4 you can acquire called the "Junkjet" which you load with random junk items. This is the first time outside of the games that there has been multiple connected vaults. This series has kind of resurrected Fallout for me since the debacle that was Fallout 76 and I'm already looking forward to season 2.
If you would like a great game series with enough "railroad" for not to get sidetracked, but a beautiful athmosphere and story, I reccomend Metro.
I see what you did there.
I 100% relate to your relationship with open world games it’s just so overwhelming to have all these options
4/11/24. Great first episode. I was hooked 20 minutes in. 9.5/10.
I am in tears over how good the show is❤🔥🔥🔥🔥
They're are a lot of references to the games in this series. And very accurate to the world. I was a Beta player to for FO 76 and within 6 months I was done with the game. The red inhaler thing is Jet. A narcotic. Just keep watching all the pieces will come together. Seeing as how you've already seen this Shady Sands is the first town you travel to in Fallout 1.
I am looking forward to this after seeing the first two eps.
Yeah. The weapon is called a Junk Jet and just fires whatever junk items you have in your inventory as ammo.
I was always loading mine with silverware and prewar money.
It was called that in 4 but the weapon is actually called Rock-It Launcher or at least this was the name it had in Fallout 3.
@@stormywaters1565They are two different weapons with similar functions but vastly different handling and delivery as well as differing greatly in their visual designs. The model the used in the series here is much more similar to the one from 4, being made out of a small turbine, so Junk Jet stands :)
@@stormywaters1565 Rock-it Launcher was the prototype and a completely different shape. This one was a Junk Jet. Had the handle on top and tubes on the side and everything. Yeah, they both shot junk items but they're not the same thing.
Just watched all 8 back to back and Loved it ❤ played all the games (except 76) and put over 4,000 hours into Fallout 4 and this did not disappoint
Was a good outcome for the chicken
The thing about getting into the Fallout games; it can take more than just 4-6 hours before you're starting to really enjoy it.
Love the show so far. 2 episodes in. You should get Fallout 3 and all the DLC. It's my favourite Fallout. They did the show right. Setting it in the game universe but it's own story and setting.
5:10 you know that whole cousin thing when they were young and stuff and then just like brushing it off later on, it’s funny at the moment but what made it even funnier is the fact that it logically is like when we were young and it was all fine and dandy, but you know as adult no real purpose so you know let’s let it go up cracked up
I believe her father said he was from vault 31 before he meet her mother. Then he had to leave it behind. (Something like that). Watched episode 1 last night so we are just starting.
As a lover of the series from F3 onward, this was exceptionally good!
At least Boyd finally got some payback against Limehouse for all that nonsense back in Harlan County 😅😅
I'm old and we actually had a tv like that one. think it was a Philco. the picture tube was portable (wired) and you could move it around the room while the tuner base was stationary.
This show was a wonderful surprise gift from a surprising source...Amazon. I was brought back into the game world. This looks like the next Game of Thrones for me.
The ghoul for sure has the bloody mess perk causing limb destruction and killshots to explode messily.
Walton Scoggins turns in a legendary performance...loved season 1
I've played a bit of fallout and love dit, some don't like the graphics or anything but it didn't bother me, I really enjoyed the time I did playing it. I haven't been so excited or happy with a tv series in a long time or movie at that but this show definitely brings something different.
As a long-time fan of the IP, I look at this as very similar to when Marvel started their initial ten-year run. Close enough to the source material, but really capturing the 'spirit' of the IP. Even better, the leads actually played the games as part of their research to 'respect the source material' and I appreciate professionals who are dedicated to their craft like that.
My wife and I binge binge-watched the entire series in one day (stayed up till 0200 which is odd for us) so I can definitely recommend it. Some of the lore changes are a bit strange, but I'm hoping they flesh them out a bit more in the following season. The first scene of the bombs dropping made me emotional as all hell, not gonna lie.
16:35 it's called jet
It is doing the Easter eggs right. If you know you know and if you don't you don't miss it. It also is doing it well in introducing concepts to new viewers
The point of fallout IS to get distracted, do all the side quests and explore all the tiniest of crevasses...
Let's goo!!!
Let’s get this man verified
Jury still out but so far so good
LOL Junk Jet - im glad they added it , cause i shot someone with a toilet plunger to the head in the game
I remember it as the Rock-It launcher from FO3, and there was nothing funnier than decapitating someone with a teddybear in slowmotion.
You know what I found myself feeling... Which I didn't expect, there was a few scenes where I got frustrated like when you watch a first time playthrough and they aren't playing the game the way you have the last 15 playthroughs 🤣🤣 characters were passing building I would of loved to ransack!! And ignoring weapons and equipment I'd pick up, Was an odd sensation 🤣 they did a brilliant job tho 👌
Bro, I didn’t know you are originally from WV, once a mountaineer always a mountaineer, love the reactions, this adaptation of fallout gives me New Vegas and 76 vibes
Swear I put it together in the same spot you did about then not being vault dwellers
The picture thing was literally an analog fax machine
i loved pretty much everything except the Finale.. it didnt feel like a finale and when i learned there wasnt an ep 9 i was genuinely like.. "wtf =was that dude.. you kidding? thats it?"
But i LOVED..loved the Practical and vfx work. so good.
A quick primer of fallout factions :
The vaults were numbered underground shelters created by Vault Tech with the stated goal of preserving pre-war Americans. Secretly they were set up to run experiments on the vault occupants in collision with elements of the US government (see Enclave). Not every vault was a F-ed up social experiment, there were control vaults. Fallout 1's protagonist was from Vault 13, Fallout 2's protagonist was a descendant of the First game's protagonist. Fallout 3 featured a protagonist from Vault 101. Doc Mitchell in New Vegas was from a vault, and Fallout 4 featured a survivor from Vault 111.
The Brotherhood of Steel are a faction descended from the Army security detail at Mariposa where the government were experimenting with the Forced Evolutionary Virus using human prisoners as guinea pigs. After discovering this Capt Roger Maxson and his men mutinied killing the scientists. The Brotherhood hordes high-tech, "protecting others from the harm it can cause". Sometimes the Brotherhood can be a force for good like the east-coast Brotherhood under Elder Lions, other times a dangerous faction that seeks out technology to its own ends, and sometimes they're little more than a raider gang with a tech kink.
The Enclave is a remnant of the pre-war military industrial complex. They were technologically superior to the other factions in post-war America but were almost completely destroyed on their oil-rig headquarters by the protagonist of Fallout 2. Still, you meet the remnants of them in NV. And yes, they show up in Fallout 3, along with super mutants because God forbid Bethesda has to invent new content in the face of established lore.
I would loooove to see you play New Vegas I know gameplay isn’t your thing though.
I know nothing of Fallout , but the vaults are very close to the ocean .
It makes no sense how o few raider pulled this off. They had enough vault dwellers to have multiple fencing clubs and yet everyone was unprepared for 8-10 people?
This is the sci-fi version of the Red Wedding; at a party and not expecting it Vs prepared for combat opponents.
If you want a lot of knowledge of the lore, watch Shoddycasts' old series. There's a playlist on the channel narrated by the storyteller. It's 76 episodes long but it is so fun to listen to
A fantastic 1 episode
Perfect
Who's here after the Hateful Eight?! Goggins is the southern GOAT!
I’m interested to find out why he was saved by the enclave. When Maximus was saved as a child, the guy was wearing enclave power armor, not brotherhood.
amazing show. proper homage to the games
I struggle with open world games, too. I played through half of every Bethesda game haha
I have 200+ hours on Fallout 4 and still haven't beaten the main story line (though I think I'm really close). You're not the only one who struggles with keeping on track lol, having fun with the game is the most important part.
Literally my only gripe is things having a fresh coat of bright paint after laying in the sun for 200+ years
