- Some people think Top Thrill 2 will be open this weekend. I'm thinking they might need to simmer down.

What do you think? Is TT2 going to open this weekend?
I give it at least a couple weeks. I mentioned this on a different channel, but there’s a bunch of machine shops in Northeast Ohio so they’re probably subcontracting one to work on the parts.
No way
Sometime next week, this coaster is vital to Cedar Point, so they will work around the clock to figure out how to get it open. That one Scremescape rumor about it possibly not opening till next year is kinda crazy.
Thank you for making a video that's not bashing Cedar Point or Zamperla. Clearly this is no small project and obviously this ride is a success. Yes it's down to an issue that was discovered but it is being fixed and will only make it even better. Every new ride has it's problems and you will never discover them until it is cycled for days. I remembered when TTD opened and that was always down. When maverick opened they needed to completely modify the track. When SV opened it had an accident in the station but yet a lot of people on social media want to out CP or Zamperla. I love your content that I've seen so far and going to subscribe now! Keep up the good work sir!
Thank you so much for the kind words! Really do appreciate it.
They didn’t completely modify the track when Maverick opened. They only changed a small section of it because the heart line roll element was causing excessive stress on the trains.
@@Coasterfan71 right but that new piece needed to be made in put into place. Still think it's crazy that the heart line is sitting in a field.
There are a lot of people who seem to be completely invested in the idea that this ride a complete disaster and are quick to say they have been proven right. It's kind of sad, imo. Zamperla wouldn't have been my first choice but considering how many chances Intamin has been giving despite decades of problems, giving Zamperla a chance isn't asking much.
@@mattberg2499 Yeah I saw they put it in a field and just left it there. Lol
I build automatoin machines, which roller coasters fall into. The diagnostics and debug does require a LOT of dry runs. Many times requiring 24hrs of runtime without any issues. You can do things on paper or simulate on computer, but unless you just do run after run , you cant get a proper look at what's going on.
I doubt CP would make the announcement that the ride is down for extended closure only to reopen it a week later. Would love to be wrong though.
lol yeah there’s another point right there
I also doubt that they’d not make an announcement if they had hopes of it opening this weekend
why is CF against single rider lines? A ride like this should never have a single empty seat.
Would be a good thing for operations, but they want to sell those fastlanes.
I agree, all these vloggers and enthusiast jumping the gun, CF stated "extended closure" it doesn't mean tomorrow, this weekend, it means longer than what they had anticipated, the problem may be greater than what they expected. I truly think this coaster won't start running till july or maybe August the latest.
Very well done video!
You pointed out some very true and possible factors.
It will definitely be interesting to see what plays out with the re-opeing of this ride.
First of all thank you! And yeah I agree this is going to be interesting to watch and see how they solve these problems.
We are ki guys ourselves and went up to cp yesterday may 16th as well. Saw the same thing, I have some video too. Guys working on the wheels underneath spinning them.
I would love to know exactly what's going on lol. As fun as it is, sometimes I do wish we weren't just on the outside looking in trying to figure it all out 😂
Great video! I could see the stopgap solution happening, but they definitely need to know where to look for wear on the part(s) so they can ensure exhaustive checks daily and proper replacement schedules. I would also guess they may want to see if they can do some kind of a scan on the part (x-ray or other) to detect wear early. That is less for maintenance or more about comparing to a new part.
Even if it does reopen before a permanent solution, it also will not take much for it to close and I would expect it will be closed for a couple of weeks when the new part is fabricated and tested. They will need to do a lot of test runs, weighted and unweighted, to check wear on the part and do full inspections of the trains while doing that to ensure it is good to go for the long term when cleared with the permanent fix.
Thank you for the kind words! Yeah I agree. They may have come up with a stopgap, but I still don't think anything is going to happen SUPER quick.
I understand the frustration, but these things can happen. It's just not realistic for a ride to be open all year long without running into problems. The crew literally needs to inspect and test the rides every day before they open to the public, and if they have problems, they will close it down for an unspecified amount of time. They will be closed for a few minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, or even the remainder of the season. They can only reopen once they are 100% sure the ride is safe. Sometime's the park doesn't have enough staff or money to operate a certain ride, leaving it closed until someone tries to fix it or just permanently closes the ride altogether, whether they just leave it SBNO or completely demolish it
Great video, like we talked about yesterday I think your line of thinking is more so the realist way and accurate way to look at this ride. hoping it opens soon, but time will tell again lol
Thanks man! Yeah totally, as much as we all want to ride again, I think there's still some work to be done before we'll "RACE FOR THE SKY" (gotta name drop your documentary) again.
Yeah, I don't think it's opening this weekend. I can't imagine them announcing a long term closure if there was a possibility that it might be good in like 4 days or whatever. They are going to have to test the ride a lot during the closure. I don't think that is a good thing to use as a sign.
I don't think so either I don't think that ride is open up that sooner that fast with that much stress on those trains
I didn't even know you had a TH-cam channel! subscribed! lol
Haha what’s up man?! Thanks!🙏
Yeah there were WAY too many clues to suggest that it'll at least be 2-3 weeks before the ride reopens and the 'testing' that was reported definitely felt, as you well-phrased, as "diagnostic" in nature. I only say 2-3 weeks given the cryptic/uncertain wording in the Coastermania itinerary.
Based on some of the other updates/changes, I'm honestly thinking it'll be probably be closer to late June before it reopens and the itinerary update for Coastermania might've been just optimistic--almost in a surreptitiously dishonest way? Meaning, I think they may already know it's NOT going to open up in time for Coastermania BUT they don't want to completely say this in the very small chance that it does re-open before then.
Or there is a good chance it will open they just want to play it safe rather than sorry and say it’s uncertain.
There was a lot of shake and rattle with the train, which would cause a lot of wear on the wheels I guess
At this point, I'm considering TT2 being open on my trip a "bonus" - not gonna let it be a trip ruiner, there still is tons of other coasters to do there. Would love to see it open even if I can get on it once. If I come with no expectations then I won't be disappointed.
Try looking for other sources besides ElToroRyan... Ryan the Ride Mechanic goes into depth about the suspected issue and gives 90 day closure as best case scenario.
The video was more meant as a response to his (ETR)I do have other sources lol.
Agreed-Ryan the ride mechanic gives a realistic but discouraging analysis. Just hope he’s wrong if the wheels are causing the problem.
Cedar Point said it would need to be "inspected". That leads me to believe it is not something to do with the LSM system. It is structural with the trains themselves. And until they get it inspected, they cannot reopen it. Again, just basing my opinion/conclusion off of CP's press release last weekend.
Well...I already canceled my birthday trip for this weekend and rescheduled for July. I will continue this process until it reopens.... I adore SteVe and Maverick, but I don't want to return to C.P. until TT2 reopens....🎉
Smart
I think it may open early July but I really hope it opens sooner, I’m going mid June with my cousins and they don’t have season passes so I only go with them once a year. If it doesn’t open till later this season then I’ll at least get to go on it with some friends who have passes!
Actually just made a video with my prediction on this! I hope it opens sooner as well though lol.
@@KICoasterGuy I’ll watch it right now!
I don't know why others are thinking it would be open that soon? I've stopped watching or listening to most coaster channels because it got tiresome and make videos for views. (I stopped watching most of them 1-2 years ago).
Being realistic, it is not reopening in the immediate future. Best case scenario, July 4th weekend, worst case scenario, closed for entire season. Cedar point will not rush this and want to get it right the first time with no future or further issues. I've been in the engineering Field for over 22 years and i understand how the engineering world works and length of time for everything.
CP really jumps the gun on these new rides. They just need to soft launch it and then hype it up when it gets fixed. But that's not how ROI works of course.
They did do a soft launch…
I hope this comment isn’t serious lol
Unrelated question. Does the line move slow as heck on this or do they load one train while the other runs?
When I rode during the Flowers from Maria preview they were really moving the trains. I think on opening day (after the initial huge line) it was about 90 mins for standby queue and about an hour for fastlane. Hopefully some people who rode it more during regular operation can expand a bit on how well the line moves.
i got a field trip to cedar point on may 31st. i have a feeling i wont be going on it :(
Likely not on that trip, but hey at least there are tons of other rides there. Will you get to go back at all this summer?
Silver train is the one I've been hearing is the shaky train.
Shout out cha boy who got you that info 😉
Hell yeah my dude much appreciated! 👍👍
Obviously something is wearing faster than they would have liked, I think the testing is so they can see how much it's wearing with each cycle so they can figure out a fix but they need to gauge the size of the issue first and they need to test to do that.
My thoughts exactly!
They better be 100% sure and thoroughly double/triple check the trains and track daily if they're going to keep running the ride while the trains destroy themselves. All it takes is one crack and one good jolt and that compromised aluminum will shear itself apart in an instant at the speeds TT2 travels.
Yeah and that’s why I think they’re doing this testing. They’ve been strapping the trains with sensors and I’d bet it’s to get a more detailed look at what’s happening to the trains when they run them.
Apparently it can take 60-90 days to redo the wheel compound if that’s the issue. Takes a day to do but requires additional days for the adhesive to gel properly according to a coaster mechanic.
Hopefully I’m wrong lol! But that could be what’s happening if they have wheel issues heating.
I saw that video as well. Hopefully that's not the issue 😬
If Cedar Point suddenly decided to spend more money on parts or try to take any kind of calculated risk on safety, that would be a much more bigly huge story than absolutely any story that might ever happen with this ride.
Well, in this scenario I doubt CP would be fitting the bill. On the safety side of things, yeah unless they knew it was safe to do there’s no chance.
Id say, probably by next weekend. Just a guess though
That sounds more reasonable to me than this weekend for sure.
I predict early June like June 3rd.
@@kurtwetzel154That would be cool if it opened then or sooner. I’ve got a trip planned to Cedar Point on June 3rd and 4th!
@Coasterfan71 same here!
@@CaseFamilyVlogsI might see you there. That is if we don’t cancel or reschedule the trip. Me and several friends planned to go to cedar point June 3rd and 4th. We live in Oklahoma and it’s about a 13 hour drive for us. We planned this 6 months ago to go ride Top Thrill 2. I sure as hell hope it open by then. If it’s not open, we may not go. 😞
Spent 2k to stay at the breakers hotel 3 days of fast pass plus for 3 of us so that’s $360 a day and Top Thrill 2 was down everyday we were there smh one week after opening what a major fail
2K just for the hotel?! Damn I knew it was expensive but I didn’t realize it was like that.
@KICoasterGuy I think they mean total. I spent like 800 for 3 nights at Breakers last year.
@@Mr.Misanthrope I think you’re right I misread it
@@KICoasterGuy it happens to the best of us. Great video, and have an amazing day.
@@Mr.Misanthropeit can get that expensive if you stay in a suite/bundle tickets.
Well....I say this...they may have been running a train to see what the wheels are doing or the assembly...so they can get a good idea or an exact idea of what's going on and what to do to properly fix the situation...
I mean seeing someone by a train doing work like that could be them mounting a cam to see birdseye of what's really going on..
And also maybe it will fix the side to side shake as well...cause that too could have been part of the issue...
I'm just speculating and this is an opinion but it's what I'm thinking...
Being a former ride mechanic that's all...
No I appreciate your insight! Think it will still be a while?
@KICoasterGuy OH it's going to be a while...they are going to have to evaluate the problem and then crunch the numbers and come up with a solid solution...
And not to mention stress and violence testing on such part...especially when it's going around that it's the wheel assembly...not a WHEEL but what holds it...I m o it was given too much tolerance and all that weight and stress or could have been bad material to make said part...that can happen just look at Fury 325 the weld didn't fail the steel did...so...
This isn't just some simple fix either it's a critical part...I would hate to have the wheel assembly fail at 100+ mph...I say for the safe riders wait a while like a few years then take a spin let's see what else goes wrong or if the part holds to the test of time.....
And on another note of this continuous down time, it could be that the ride is cursed and just take the loss and get rid of it for safety reasons...
You mean it didn't open, today? Lol
You’d be surprised lol. A lot of people thought it would.
I knew when I saw El Toro Ryan's video that it was not going to open back up immediately.
Some people in the coaster. Community. To name 2 coasterstudios and eltoro Ryan are paid shills to do damage control.
Well looks like we were right.
lol I am surprised people are not suing cedar point like the idiots at kennywood. lol. It boggles my mind that people act that way now.
lol that is funny.
If that's the case then they'd sue them for all the times the OG was closed
Will not open in 2024
