I have a mixture of cables, but what I did is wrap colored electrical tape at both ends to indicate length. That way I can use cable color for function and electrical tape color for length.
I was not so happy with my 2many Synth Case. The Depth was not deep enough for a lot of my modules and the Guy didnt wired it up in the end. But this was one of the main reasons to buy a case -> because i dont like to wire it myself.

The minute I went from exploring my medium eurorack system (some 60 modules, including approx. 40 utility modules) to actually trying to compose and follow a plan, eurorack went from being interesting to becoming a veritable obstacle. I have had my eyes on the NerdSeq for more than a year, remembering my ephemeral tracker days on the Amiga 500, and now I am convinced it will suit my needs and remove a lot of the obstacles. I find that I need to strike a balance between complexity and ease of use, the latter, of course, refers to the NerdSeq, a comparison which in itself is emblematic of how complex a eurorack system actually can be. Thank you for "solving" my problem!✌️
Definitely, the NerdSeq is an amazing module. I bought mine a few years back, and composed so much on it - several albums actually. As Omri says, it's actually very easy to use, and it can be spontaneous if you need it for performance too. I had tried several other sequencers, but found them always very limited, especially if you're into more complex composition (using modular). If you want to make simple loops, then this could be a bit 'over the top', but never a waste of money. Another plus is that the NerdSeq community is really active. If you have a problem or question, you'll get an answer often within minutes, but never longer than a day. Lastly, I think the only other sequencer which has a similar setup is the Westlicht Performer (which is well worth a look), but doesn't have sample playback. However, it is able to do a lot of random stuff very quickly, which as you can imagine can be great for live performances.
The goold old Amiga times . First an Amiga 500 , in ´93 at the age of 15 fiddling with protracker and absolutely no clue what I was doing (internet wasnt invented yet) and later we went 3 years with a group of Belgian friends to a big Amiga fair , the messe in Koln . Bought an Amiga 4000/30 there with a Qwertz keyboard LOL
When you get the novation launchpad in combination with the multi- I/O expander on the NerdSeq, the visual and tactile experience jump up several levels
I have been on and off from vcv from version 0.6 and it is crazy how everything evolved and the community with it.. Nothing beats a bunch of nerds having fun with bleeps and ksjjjjjj's :D.. Thanks for your great tutorials and guides Omri. Btw, I have bought an octatrack and I am going to have to review and old video of yours explaining how to 'autobuild' ´large sample and loop packs´ with record in vcv ,so I can import loads into the OT to be able to play a live set longer than 5 min , hahah. Wow, very touching video. It feels like a deep retrospective not only about eurorack, but about life itself. Very inspiring. What are the songs that are playing in background, is it possible to find them somewhere? Could you share you approach about using effects? You mentioned that you don’t really use spacelab/magneto as an end of chain. Do you use end of chain only in daw? Also if you use 3 voices, how often do you apply one effect (delay/reverb) per voice? I noticed doing it can overwhelm the sound.
Glad you enjoyed it! I will usually add delay and reverb in the DAW, yes. It makes it easier for me to mix things later on. I will also typically use one delay and one reverb per voice. I'm not a fan of send effects.
Always sad to see how much other people get out of the NerdSeq and it only gives me headaches. I have months where I can't do any music and then I forgot everything and the huge manual is like studying at university again :D
Yeah, I guess it's like any other musical instrument. If you want to play the guitar, but have a few months when you don't play it, it will be hard to go back into it. But yeah, the NerdSeq is too complex to learn quickly from the manual...

I built 2 cases myself (3x104) and purchased a Pittsburgh 2x104HP travel case. I swap the cases on/off my desk so I don't get bored. 1 case is percussion, 1 is sequence and 1 is west coast. I was like you and pulled modules out and sold some but then stopped. I felt it was easier (and healthier) to just swap them in/out rather than going cold turkey. Great video!!
That nerdseq is amazing...it was always beyond my reach for space,power and price but it certainly is a powerful module and I totally understand why you use it....making rigid electronic music into organic free-flowing composition. Nice system with quality modules. Mine is a similar size (taken me a few years to build) but with all budget modules but they keep me amused and enthused. Good onya Omri.
Nice update, very interesting. BTW (although you probably know), if you select a note and use the Shift + OK shortcut, you access the RN0-F setting/command much quicker - if that makes sense?
oooh this is really cool! I've got almost exactly the same case. Just with 104HP and standing "upright". Neat idea to use it like this - could be more ergonomical... And I'm a proud owner of an ES-9 and a NerdSeq as well and love both of them!

I always appreciate the annual updates and glad you did another one. I'm always interested in knowing what you are thinking with your setup changes. But not just for the hardware changes alone, it is also really insightful to hear you explain the way you like to use everything. I have been looking for a sequencer for a long time and I finally decided on the NerdSeq. I'll probably will have to ask for my pension to ever get enough time to get to the bottom of this one. But, I do agree, 5 minutes and things went off. Now, I'm a bit older 'aheum' and was familiar with trackers. May be an old boy's thing, but for me it always felt more logical (?). Anyway, I have a 140 Behringer GO and the NerdSeq is a little bit left of the middle in row 1 (which is closest to me). Although, I'm righthanded, I was a bit trained to use my left hand as well so this works out fine. My arm rests perfectly on the arm rest of my chair. Also, I have the Multi IO as well which easily lets me connect a master keyboard and/or Novation Launchpad (a powered USB hub is your best friend as without this Amps can go through the roof on your case) as well. Long story short, no hurting arms or shoulders 🙂. What I also consider to do as my addiction starts getting out of control ... is to put 'utility' modules in a separate case. Things like the Nifty case are good for that. I have the Mordac Data (one of the best buys ever) and the Expert Sleepers E3, E6 and E7. These are not exactly audio interfaces as you connect them by lightpipe to an audio interface (I use the RME Baby Face). But anyway, depending on the noise levels, I might consider putting my mixer into this separate case. Dreams, dreams, dreams 😛
@@wimve4719 the looping is really intuitive, great for laying down patterns to play over. And within a day the menu starts to feel really smart. You can menu dive if you want but the key features are all built into the main columns. It has legs for sure.

So cool to see the state of the case! I agree! Too many synths is doing amazing work though I haven’t seen it in person. Mimeophon does have those quirks for sure though not sure if they are also present on the most recent firmware. I haven’t yet updated. So good to see Bard Quartet in your case! That one module has made my system so melodically performable and I love it. Countless utilities you can pull too like random voltage constrained to a certain range and changing the arpeggio order. Try using it to sequence the decay on high hats. It feels really modular at it’s heart because of how flexible it is. I can’t wait to one day check out a NerdSeq for myself.

And I understand the problem about power: Currently, I have build one huge 168HP 18U case with three of Hammer PWR by Konstant Lab (comes down to +12V at 15.000 mA, -12V at 7.500 mA and 5V at 6.000 mA). I also combine "fullfledged" sequencing (Eloquencer) with a more modular/ experimental approach (Z8000 for example) and have Bard Quartet help out with evening out the outcome. - And with unquantized sequencers, pieces like the Blukac Endless Processor + Expander can get really interesting. Seeing what you got there, I could've sworn you'd be in the market for the Verbos Multi-Delay Processor :O

There are many things you can do with the O-Ctrl, that's true. But it was just too limited for me as a device outside the case. The Verbos sequencer is also quite limited (even more limited than the O-Ctrl), but it's inside the case and easier to incorporate in the bigger system. How do you use it? Do you use it with Eurorack?
@@OmriCohen-Music only had it a couple of weeks so not got into it properly yet but I want to try incorporating it with Eurorack, yes. I love trying all sorts of different sequencers, now have the Eloquencer, Metropolix, Rene 2, the new Oct Tone in the rack, and also Oxi One, SQ-1, Digitakt & Digitone as well as the 0-CTRL. Am still experimenting with different workflows and enjoying doing so. One of the few I haven’t tried yet is a tracker so am going to watch your recent VCV Rack video on that and give it a go. Not enough hours in the day… 😂
Time flies fast Omri, my modular journey started with your VCV introduction videos, thank you for that, you opened a whole new world for me and addiction. I have made one rule since the start...Whatever module you buy you keep... so think it well...and keep audio routes analog if possible. I am trying to keep it that way, 3 years and nothing sold, just slowly adding what I feel I miss...But I have done a few buys less thinked through... And extending my main hand made rack (now 15U 126HP) with Konstantlab Hammer power... + hand made smaller rack within the briefcase (6U 84HP) also Konstantlab power... Sometimes I am tempted to sell / exchange modules / gear, but then I realise I already have everything I wanted and for a year stopped checking new stuff...helped a lot to focus more. Now I am thinking about some more feature packed modular sequencer (I do not have or had any), Nerdseq is on the list, great to see you picked it up!
That's an interesting approach. I have many modules I haven't sold, but there are just sometimes modules that I cannot connect with, and it's better to let someone else enjoy them. I don't remember who it was, but someone said once that a module is like a video game. You enjoy it for a while, explore its different worlds and possibilities, and move on...
@@OmriCohen-Music That is true. So far I've been probably mostly lucky with my personal picks. I mostly focused on "keep it simple" getting as simple as possible base blocks - vcos, vcfs (I am bit vcf "OCD"), envelopes and other modulation sources + utility modules, with focus on immediacy and rather more patch points than multiple "modes" and button combinations (but yep some of those "multi" modules can't be overlooked). And they are usually too similar to be exchanged for something else, but for sure there are times I am tempted! Bard Quartet is also on my list, Addac quantiser was another possibility before Bard was out there...I have only Harmonaig as pure quantizer since my first build...and thinking it might be first module to exchange. That is a good comparison, I actually work as artist in game development...and stopped playing games completely as they are these days too similar and repetitive, just few of them bring something new or something that stands out. Thank you for all your valuable insides and content you are creating!
@@trymarud I recently (like last week 😛), I bought the Bard Quartet. To be honest, I had been looking for a good quantiser but never could decide. Then I saw Omri's vid (see above) and I also happened to meet the 'CEO' of Shakmat and had the opportunity to speak with him like 10 min. They are from BE, and you might guess, so am I. Another long story short, he got me convinced as well. What he showed me was so impressive (I'm not even pretending to have understood everything) but a surge of nationalism made me buy the module. All joking apart though, if you're saving up, save up for that one.

Well, Bitwig is great if I'm using the synths and modulation. But Reaper is more comfortable for me for recording and then mixing and mastering later on. If I'm using Bitwig, I then export the tracks and load them up in Reaper for mixing\mastering, so if I don't use synths and modulation from Bitwig, it's easier for me to just directly record into Reaper. I hope it makes sense.

I need to add something: I always felt and heard your music as full compositions. Tunes like days I choose to ignore ( which is one of my very favs ever ) is full composition imho. It reminds me if Godspeed you! Black emperor and Thom York worked together🫶🏼 and all the the other tunes on modular fungi as well. Unfortunately those are not really after later audio modules. He just soldered them and changed the looks. They are still emilies wonderful work from mutable instruments ripples v2 and tides v2.

Awesome video dude, love all your work, wish I saw this the other day because I have having the same issue with my Mimeophon, being fairly new to all this I just assumed something broke and sent it to Make Noise and paid to find out there was nothing wrong with it lol

This amused me, as I just recently got the 0-CTRL based on your own video demos of it! I may get tired of it but for now I love it.
There are many things you can do with the O-Ctrl, that's true. But it was just too limited for me as a device outside the case. The Verbos sequencer is also quite limited (even more limited than the O-Ctrl), but it's inside the case and easier to incorporate in the bigger system. How do you use it? Do you use it with Eurorack?

trying all sorts of different sequencers, now have the Eloquencer, Metropolix, Rene 2, the new Oct Tone in the rack, and also Oxi One, SQ-1, Digitakt & Digitone as well as the 0-CTRL. Am still experimenting with different workflows and enjoying doing so. One of the few I haven’t tried yet is a tracker so am going to watch your recent VCV Rack video on that and give it a go. Not enough hours in the day… 😂

I have made one rule since the start...Whatever module you buy you keep... so think it well...and keep audio routes analog if possible.
I am trying to keep it that way, 3 years and nothing sold, just slowly adding what I feel I miss...But I have done a few buys less thinked through...
And extending my main hand made rack (now 15U 126HP) with Konstantlab Hammer power... + hand made smaller rack within the briefcase (6U 84HP) also Konstantlab power...
Sometimes I am tempted to sell / exchange modules / gear, but then I realise I already have everything I wanted and for a year stopped checking new stuff...helped a lot to focus more. Now I am thinking about some more feature packed modular sequencer (I do not have or had any), Nerdseq is on the list, great to see you picked it up!
That's an interesting approach. I have many modules I haven't sold, but there are just sometimes modules that I cannot connect with, and it's better to let someone else enjoy them.
I don't remember who it was, but someone said once that a module is like a video game. You enjoy it for a while, explore its different worlds and possibilities, and move on...
@@OmriCohen-Music That is true. So far I've been probably mostly lucky with my personal picks.
I mostly focused on "keep it simple" getting as simple as possible base blocks - vcos, vcfs (I am bit vcf "OCD"), envelopes and other modulation sources + utility modules, with focus on immediacy and rather more patch points than multiple "modes" and button combinations (but yep some of those "multi" modules can't be overlooked). And they are usually too similar to be exchanged for something else, but for sure there are times I am tempted!
Bard Quartet is also on my list, Addac quantiser was another possibility before Bard was out there...I have only Harmonaig as pure quantizer since my first build...and thinking it might be first module to exchange.
That is a good comparison, I actually work as artist in game development...and stopped playing games completely as they are these days too similar and repetitive, just few of them bring something new or something that stands out.

@@trymarud I recently (like last week 😛), I bought the Bard Quartet. To be honest, I had been looking for a good quantiser but never could decide. Then I saw Omri's vid (see above) and I also happened to meet the 'CEO' of Shakmat and had the opportunity to speak with him like 10 min. They are from BE, and you might guess, so am I. Another long story short, he got me convinced as well. What he showed me was so impressive (I'm not even pretending to have understood everything) but a surge of nationalism made me buy the module. All joking apart though, if you're saving up, save up for that one.
@@wimve4719 Thank you for your insight! Sounds awesome! I have Dual Dagger filter (decided over xaoc stereo filter) and SumDif from Shakmat in my smaller rack. Very nice modules, so I believe bard quartet is also awesome! Will put it higher in my want list :)

I'm curious, what use cases would have you choose to use reaper instead of bitwig?
Well, Bitwig is great if I'm using the synths and modulation. But Reaper is more comfortable for me for recording and then mixing and mastering later on. If I'm using Bitwig, I then export the tracks and load them up in Reaper for mixing\mastering, so if I don't use synths and modulation from Bitwig, it's easier for me to just directly record into Reaper. I hope it makes sense.

I need to add something: I always felt and heard your music as full compositions. Tunes like days I choose to ignore ( which is one of my very favs ever ) is full composition imho. It reminds me if Godspeed you! Black emperor and Thom York worked together🫶🏼 and all the the other tunes on modular fungi as well.
Unfortunately those are not really after later audio modules. He just soldered them and changed the looks. They are still emilies wonderful work from mutable instruments ripples v2 and tides v2.
