THANK YOU! I've been wanting to see this since I missed the live stream of it. Wonderful program, and excited for his new C.P.E. Bach album releasing this January
Nice to see him playing early Beethoven. I clearly remember him saying in an interview a long time ago that he wouldn't be interested much in playing early Beethoven (sorry I can't find it anymore, I don't remember where I heard that but I'm positive I did) . I'm glad he had a change of heart.
For wellbeing of human race he has changed his mind about not playing Gaspard de la Nuit 😇 I hope that he doesn't resist any longer and eventually plays Scriabin's Vers la Flamme 😉
Many pieces he played in recitals also have been recorded. I also hope that Hyperion releases Hamelin's performance of Late Beethoven Sonatas (Nos. 29-32) - he's performed Nos. 30-32 since early 2000s.
Curious that he doesn't play the repeat in ther first movement of Beethoven's op.3 no. 2. For an marked contrast, listen to Sviatoslav Richter play it.

Dimitri Bashkirov her teacher Anastasia Virsaladze teach saying to Bashkirov the most important lesson is the love of beautiful colorful piano sound! This was already in 1930s! Really Shocking! We need More teachers like Anastasia Virsaladze! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Hamelin=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius than Hamelin=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Stanislav Bunin Maria Grinberg! More powerful louder than Hamelin=Mikhail Pletnev(Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest ever was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi! Horowitz his technique better than Hamelin's technique!
What piece did he play after Hammerklavier?
La Complaisante - C.P.E. Bach

Bravissimo💗
0:19 He should have played his Valse-Irritation d'apres NOKIA, shouldn't he?
love this comment
Fantastic. How on earth did he memorize this?

masssive
Cpe bach finally get some respect listen to mozart folks!
M.A.H. has the technique to play The Hammerklavier with Beethoven's own metronome marking - so I'm wondering why he didn't....
Because it sounds terrible at that speed on a modern grand. That tempo would have made more sense on the pianos of Beethoven's time
Sorry, but I don't find a significant difference with a planola. Only sound volume grades, but no colours, expresiveness, etc.

He has good technique but is totally unimpressive. I don't like its sound.

He’s the greatest pianist alive, and one of the greatest in recorded history.
