easily one of the best mpc centric channels. My tracks sound so much better since I've started watching. As the others have said you absolutely spoiled us giving us the actual template wow
Congratulations. Brilliant update to your previous master template video. I believe I had requested you on the older video - to shoot one on your default drum template, layout & library organisation. Please bless us with one on this topic soon 🙏🏾
Thanks so much for everything! The thing I like about your videos versus all the other MPC stuff on TH-cam, is that I KNOW your lessons will be rock solid and are based on real world experience. Looks like a fantastic template and fills a lot of gaps I have in my mixing process in standalone. Look forward to using it!
@@TheCratesMotel Question Conan. You've moved the faders down -6db to allow for mixing headroom. Is this done in conjunction with / after gain staging work in the program editor/samples page/pad level, which is pre fader? I hope that makes sense.
Christmas in January! Whenever I'm stuck or have a question I check your channel first. You always help. You're a fountain of knowledge that keeps flowing. Thank you for the template. Now that I've punched out this appreciation, I'm gonna finish the video. I only made it 34 seconds. Thanks again
i play live bass what happens is the lower strings can really boom out compared with the top 2 strings. depends on their thickness. you try and cut the boom down and boost the top strings by compression the dynamics can vary hugely otherwise. i compress before i go in to my amp sim then again coming out
Thank you Conan, an amazing and insightful video, keep up the great work. If i put the mp in 3000 mode in load prefences would that free up a slot and will affect the sounds the same way as if i put them on the bus channels?
I’ve never used it like that to be honest. I think if you apply it in preferences it affects everything??? But yeh, you could do that and save yourself multiple slots, if you want everything to have that flavour.
Hey Conan, thx for doing this template....great work!! There is only one thing that I don't understand: There is a compressor in every submix on insert one to tame the dynamics of the incoming signal and after that are eq, tube drive, MPC60 which are increasing the dynamics again. Also the tube drive and the MPC60 introduces overtones in the high and the low frequencies....so after the eq. Why did you set it up this way? I know it's not set in stone and there are a thousand ways to get a decent sound but I really would love to understand your thought process.... I would personally put the MPC60 in the first slot, then the tube drive, then the eq for taming overtones and equing and as the last plugin the compressor so that I could tame the dynamics of all the frequencies I need from that signal. This is absolutely not a criticism or anything like that. As I said I'm just interested in your thoughts. Keep up the good work...I absolutely love your videos!!!
@@DJTrack77 it’s a fair point and there’s no reason to not do it in the way you describe. However, when you add flavour, which is what the MPC 60 or Tube Drive do, it’s better in my experience to do it after you have control of the source. Surgical work first, get control over the dynamic range, reduce any resonant frequencies or clashing frequencies, then once you have control, add flavour. If you add flavour first you will be fighting against the source and using EQ and compression to get control, and thereby killing all that flavour. It’s better to totally control your dish before you add salt and pepper so to speak. If you have a noisy vocal with loads of mud for instance, adding saturation etc is going to make it worse. You’ll then spend all your time trying to correct twice as many problems. If you get absolute control, get rid of the bad stuff, then add the spice, it’s better, in my opinion. Imagine you have a sample with a load of hiss and mud, and add tube drive, you’ll be in trouble quickly. Get rid of the hiss and mud then add flavour, you’ll end up in a better place.
I set out to produce an EP entirely on MPC...the songs are ready, now the question is: mix in MPC or Cubase? I imagine we are very different, but in your opinion is it worth it on mpc? Thank you
What now if you need to side chain the bass with a mother ducker and all the 4 spots are filled up like in the template , whats your solution for that ? Im real green with mixing , so maybe its a "dumb" question
Hey mate, it’s a fair question. You can just change it out if you want. The template is not written in stone. Feel free to tweak it to suit your own workflow.
Create a track that has the bass instrument (as an example, select New Track, bottom left hand corner). Use one effect on it, “Mother Ducker Input.” Have the “Audio Out” of the new track go to the Bass FX bus (if you are using it). Then go to the FX channel(s) like synth/guitars/sample that will be impacted by the Ducking compressor. I’d recommend removing the air compressor in whatever FX channel needs to be compressed and replace it with Mother Ducker. You can remove whichever effect you wont be using, I just picked Air Compressor because you are Ducking. If you want to you can create a track for each instrument (say you are going to use three synths). Put Air compressor on each synth track and send each synth track audio out to the Synth FX.
With previous template had no issues, but with this one, this message appears: Archive Utility Unable to expand “20250107 CM Template Vers 3.xpj” into “Downloads”. (Error 79 - Inappropriate file type or format.)
